- Be Thou My Vision is a famous Irish hymn. This was recorded at Old Rehoboth Church. Old Rehoboth is the oldest Protestant church west of the Alleghenies. Erected 1786 on land donated by Edward Keenan. Bishop Frances Asbury preached here in July 1788, held three Methodist conferences in the 1790's and performed the first Methodist ordination west of the Alleghanies. Named a Methodist Shrine in 1960 and listed on the National Register in 1974.
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
Be Thou My Vision's words were believed to have been written in the 8th century by an Irish poet believed to be St. Dallan Forgaill in honor of St. Patrick. Mary Byrne translated it into English for the first time in 1905. An Irish woman, Eleanor Hull, put the words to music in 1912 and this was to the melody of "Slane", a medieval tune written in honor of St. Patrick.
Verse 1 Verse 3
Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart; Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise,
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art; Thou mine inheritance, now and always;
Thou my best thought by day or by night, Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
Waking or sleeping, thy presence my light. High King of heaven, my treasure Thou art.
Verse 2 Verse 4
Be Thou my wisdom, and Thou my true Word, High King of heaven, my victory won,
I ever with Thee, and Thee with me, Lord; May I reach heaven's joys, O bright heav'n's
Thou my great Father, and I Thy true son; Sun!
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one. Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still by my vision, O Ruler of all.
I am looking for the tab, Thank you.
I am sorry but I don't do tab and I do not mean that in a rude way. My goal is to teach you by ear and it's not as hard as you think. As a matter of fact, once you learn by ear, you will never want to look at tab again. It is so much fun to go out and sit on your front porch and pick out songs and hymns that you like and your fingers will automatically go to those different notes to make the melody of the song. If you'll watch my videos and do what I say on there and play it over and over, you will develop an ear for that. Right now, I've had my second stroke that I'm recovering from. While I plan on doing different videos during my recovery, unfortunately it would be hard for me to teach but if you will be patient with me and let me recover, I will get you there. Blessings in Christ. Shawn
