I played Mystery Dungeon for the first time like a year ago, and I'm an adult. While the writing isn't like y'know high art or anything, Rescue Team and Explorers of Sky actually do have emotional little stories to tell that are genuinely a big step up from what you'd get in a mainline entry. The gameplay, too, especially if you're into that more classic rogue-style stuff or at least will meet it on its own terms is really top shelf. I'm shocked both of them were so dismissive of it without even really giving it any flowers. There's a reason that there's like 5 separate Mystery Dungeon series. Hell, Shiren the Wanderer just got a brand new entry this year.
I really wish they weren't dismissive of Fossil Fighters and Yo-kai Watch either (especially as a massive fan of Yo-kai Watch, though it isn't a Nintendo franchise), but I don't know what I was expecting when I know Antdude has referred to them as "Pokémon at home" in the past and clearly thinks the term "Pokémon-like" is a suitable description for games of the monster-taming genre.
I feel like Rangers is the one that actually should've been in D considering how not remembered that series is. Mystery Dungeon got a Switch entry just a few years ago
@jameszetterman4487 Hard agree on that. Seeing Sin & Punishment get the love it deserves is great, but F-Zero really deserves it too and doesn't get enough recognition.
I swear, media insiders/creators in-the-know overhyping Sin and Punishment has been a thing since the N64 game was Japan-only. It gains hype from its obscurity. F-Zero is an easy series to not click with (key mechanics not taught to the player in some games and so on), but man they're good when you go deep on them.
As someone who is in fact one of those passionate PMD fans its always utterly bizarre to watch people be so apathetic about the games. Like, do not get me wrong, i absolutely get it! It's a repetitive and potentially really unengaging gameplay style that must be really hard to connect with without either being a pokemon fan, a mystery dungeon fan, or getting into them as a child, the stories are slow burns, and the games are in fact designed for children. But, like. Explorers of Sky is one of my favourite video games of all time, I've replayed it to death, I've not grown any less fond of it over the years, so it's always really funny to get a whiplash reminder that oh, yeah, most other nintendo fans literally could not give less of a fuck about this series
I’m sure a (traditional) roguelike fan could enjoy it if they wanted an easy RPG to play through. At the very least, non-PMD Mystery Dungeon fans can still enjoy them.
The Mystery Dungeon games are so unapologeticly themselves. I can't blame people for bouncing off if they've given it a shot. They end up in my collection like the Dynasty Warriors or Tetris games where once I have one in a console generation I don't feel the need to buy any others until there's some major graphic update or some big hook. But I'm sure they all have their own hits.

Saying that Splatoon 3's single player is mid while also praising Octo Expansion is crazy to me. Those modes have the exact same structure and gameplay loop, what's the difference? I didn't think anything in this video would get me tilted, but that one actually did lol

Idk why but I felt like the Octo Expansion had much more creativity in its levels compare to Splatoon 3's base single player. The levels there weren't bad, there were much better than the base single player in the previous 2 games, but for me I prefer the Octo Expansion by a lot. Just my opinion tho

Octo Expansion just has a sauce to it idk. I played all the way through it for the first time a week before Splat3 came out, and yeah Octo Expansion is just so good and I don't know why I prefer it to After Alterna

Let's be real. PMD is nowhere as interesting and replayable as the actual Mystery Dungeon series (Torneko and Shiren) The original concept was entering a mystery dungeon with no items being identified and using your game knowledge to progress further than before. PMD only has one such dungeon.
3:53:16 Aw hell nah. I can't believe how dismissive Antdude was over EarthBound. I understand not liking the first game, but to say it's C-tier is really harsh. Even if it doesn't click with you, you can't deny how impactful the series was to everybody else. There's reasons why people keep talking about those games and drawing inspiration from them to this very day. It's a powerful, creative trilogy and deserves to at least be at the bottom of A-tier. Mother fans like me would say it's an S-tier Nintendo IP, but I'm willing to admit there's flaws like encounter rate in M1 or how you can't buy multiple of an item at the same time, etc.
There's a lot of other things to consider for the ranking, I've played Mother and Earthbound, but the game is pretty cryptic, there's a bit of backtracking and Mother 1 requires so much grinding, in my heart it's an S, but being in B tier I think is valid C tier is very harsh though
The main problem here is thinking a tier list like this means anything or holds any weight when the fundamental idea is pretty stupid and comparing games with nothing in common makes zero sense
I mean only played Earthbound and my complaint is how cryptic and unfocused it feels. The ideas are great but sometimes the game gets so lost in bizarre concepts that I forget I'm trying to find another song piece. Though that may be because Earthbound was my first RPG. Still I wish every other RPG had the Earthbound method of when you find a monster you can one shot you just automatically win and don't have to waste time in a turn based battle. Every time I have to grind in a new RPG makes me wish for that so bad.
"If Luigi's Mansion didn't have a dud, it would be in S." 1. Luigi's Mansion 2, while the weakest of the 3, is by no means a dud. 2. You put 3D Metroid in S tier despite Other M and Federation Force being way bigger duds.
Luigi's mansion is a game with currently 3 games while Metroid has like 11 (excluding prime 4.) Luigi's mansion has one dud over Metroid's two but since Luigi has less games in his series, a higher percentage of the franchise is considered a 'meh' while Metroid has a higher percentage of quality
@Bobo12300 If we were talking about the Metroid franchise as a whole, then yeah, it would no doubt be S tier. But they specifically split it up between 2D and 3D. And while Prime 1-3 are obviously amazing, the other 3D games (Prime Hunters, Other M, and FF) are at best okay and extremely flawed at worst. That's only half the 3D Metroids being great when compared to 2/3 of the Luigi's Mansion series, and LM2 is overall way better than any of the bad 3D Metroids.

@rhodrage That's actually more of a Nintendo franchise than Yokai Watch, because all Layton games apart from some mobile & flip phone titles / ports are exclusive to Nintendo platforms. Yokai Watch 4 however also released on PS4.

2D Mario is top S-tier, regardless of the New Soup games. Putting the series that perhaps defined the very idea of what a video game is in the public consciousness, more than any other series, below Puzzle League is shameful.

I'd argue that Xenoblade 1 was ahead of its time for an open world real-time JRPG on the Wii released originally in 2010. Every subsequent game (except for probably Xenoblade 2) only continued on or even built on what was so great about the original. Xenoblade is one of my favorite game series ever, and Xenoblade 1 is one of my favorite games of all time. It honestly still boggles my mind that when the game was being localized, Nintendo of America had no faith in the first game doing well in a time when it was exactly what the Wii needed in North America around 2011-2012.
@@alexandercorbett1147 I believe 2 is a less consistent game than 1, but its peaks reach far higher. All it really needed was probably 6 more months of development to iron out the technical problems and quality of life issues, and toning down the cringe in the early chapters, and it could have been seen just as favorably as the original.

The fact that despite Scott not being into the mainline pokemon games but still ranks it above Chibi-Robo, a series Scott presumably had a soft spot for until zip-lash, really makes me respect him a lot, he could’ve just swapped both franchises into different ranks and have Pokemon ranked lower, but he didn’t, so that’s pretty cool. Also I have nothing against Chibi Robo whatsoever.
I love the series too, but the nothing spin-offs keep it from being higher than A for me. When did yall last boot up Dream Buffet, or all those fighter games that blend together in a Fruity Pebbles mush
If you meet pokemon mystery dungeon (especially the good one, I forget its name) as what it is - an mystery dungeon game for children + pokemon fans, then it does a very good job. A story that hits the right notes for the target audience (seeing lots of different pokemon + easy to follow, but earnest). The gameplay is pitched at a perfect level, with lots of options to make the game harder for yourself if youre looking for more of a challenge. The fact that it gets children into a roguelite with such an unusual set of rules to grasp compared to a 2d platformer or a railroaded rpg like pokemon is honestly pretty impressive to me.
While I don't have high expectations for Scott having much knowledge on Fire Emblem, I wish Ant had more experience with the series before Awakening because he and Scott basically rated 5 (6 if you're including TMS) out of 17 games for the ranking. I know half of the games before Awakening only came out in Japan, and the ones that have officially released in the US are expensive to obtain physically. But The Blazing Sword is currently on NSO, and that in addition to Sacred Stones and Shadow Dragon both released on the Wii U eShop in the past. Pretty unfair to not even give those games a passing mention when they've re-released numerous amounts of time by now

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon in D tier is an insanely ignorant take. Sounded like both of them have never really played any entries. Ant at least made the point the people love the series and fought for C tier, but in my opinion it's a solid B tier franchise that has more than one good entry.
Idk, it's like you play one of them, and you've mostly experienced what the others have to offer. I like Explorer's of Sky, but just because it has a good story, it doesn't mean it's unique from the other games gameplay wise. High C tier franchise to me.

While most of the list I can understand, but seeing Yo-Kai Watch so low hurts me, especially with the comments being "only children will like it" when I was 26 and loved the series to bits... But, I also love the Japanese lore behind each monster, and Yo-Kai Watch 2 is my favorite. 1 can be a bit rough to get into, but it's really just an easy starting point before it gets a true identity in 2 and onward. That, and I love Luigi's Mansion 2 and 3, but didn't like the first one. XD Everyone loves games a different way, and that's okay.

@Silvereye-qq7jq The problem is that strategy RPG's are not very popular outside of Japan. Sales of the series were so bad that if Awakening didn't sell well the series would die. So Intelligent Systems was trying to end the series with a bang, and the game sold better than expected. Intelligent Systems are also responsible for Paper Mario. It's confirmed that the animation quality of the GBA games were inspired by Record of Lodoss War, and Slayers.
Despite Antdude’s opinion on F-Zero, I do think people should try the series out. Mostly the ones after SNES. X, GX, Climax, and 99 are good starting points. That goes for all the other fans of all the other series on this list. Express why YOU love the series and what games to try.

Fire emblem engage doesn’t have the best story. But my god is the gameplay incredible. For me the story in FE isn’t as important as the gameplay. That’s why I find it to be a good game overall
I’m not sure if I’m crazy or not but I don’t see how Engage’s story is awful. Like it’s more simple and straightforward and sillier that other games but I wouldn’t see it as bad. Maybe that’s because I saw what they were going for in terms of the tone like a Sunday morning shonen anime vibe. Especially with the opening song. Yeah there are areas you can criticize but I don’t think see how the story is terrible.
Most of the fire emblem games that people call bad are because the storylines are super bad. Fates and engage have very solid gameplay, but their storylines are painful
I just recently got into Fire Emblem myself, started with Awakening then moved on to Fates, and yeah the story of Fates is a huge drop in quality, but the gameplay is a pretty big step up. I love the changes to pair up to make it less broken, and maps are better than the mostly open fields in Awakening.

I'll admit that the phrase "there is no bad Kirby game" straight up isn't true when Pinball Land and the Curse games exist, but Kirby is still more consistent in quality than Fire Emblem, especially when it comes to the mainline games (the only one I don't like is Amazing Mirror).

I always like to see how different everyone views different games, we all have different tastes and interests that are scratched in different ways. Like for me personally I'd put something like Kirby or Yoshi lower, but EarthBound or Donkey Kong higher. Not that there's anything inherently better or worse about certain franchises, we just gravitate towards different things and that's alright.
WarioLand and Rythm and Puzzle League heaven in S, but Fire emblem in B and Xenoblade in A? This... vexes me... I mean, even ignoring subjective game quality, the effort that goes into Xenoblade and fire emblem alone should be enough to put them in S. Breath of the Wild literally wouldn't exist without Xenoblade.
@mortalview2072 Xenoblade’s developers MonolithSoft were instrumental in the design of Botw’s open world. Xenoblade X was a fully open world on the Wii U, and it was that game that convinced The Zelda team an open world Zelda was possible, hence why they got Monolith to work on Botw. Monolith has a talent for constructing massive, detailed, open world games on limited hardware.

You understand when I say "effort" I don't mean the nebulous act of working on a game, I mean the effort it takes to create gigantic, sprawling, deep hundred plus hour rpgs, with deep enriching characters, complex and unique gameplay, and incredible graphic fidelity on outdated hardware with a team that was at one point split in half to work on Zelda. To compare the effort that went into duke nukem to the effort that goes into Xenoblade, is life comparing a rubix cube to a playstation 5. Xenobalde X's world was so massive, detailed well designed and impressive it convinced Nintendo that they had the talent to create botw, one of the most innovative games of the last decade. botw is as great as it is, because Xenoblade X was as great as it was. That is my point. For context more people worked on Pokemon Scarlett and Violet, then worked on Xenoblade X. Google a screenshot from Pokemon S/V and compare it to a screenshot from X and tell me which looked like it had more effort put into it, considering how many people were involved with each.
Mystery dungeon is at least B imo. I'd rather play that than Starfy, Pushmo or Box Boy personally. Damn, I thought Mother 3 was a mind blowing RPG. And I played Final Fantasy 7 before that.

Ok yeah as someone who is a huge fan of F-Zero, I gotta be honest with myself, it's not a game for everyone. And that's totally ok, not all games click with everyone. F-Zero has a steep learning curve and not everyone has the patience to put in the time to learn the game's mechanics. So I can understand why F-Zero doesn't click with Ant
Splatoon deserves nothing higher than D tier for making Nintendo feed into the live service formula for future games in the most mediocre way possible.
I would like to see the sequel to this video where you take the best entry in every Nintendo Franchise and then rank the games you picked. I think it would be cool seeing which games you pick for each franchise using a mix of debate/compromise of picking games an ranking them.
I'm honestly fine with this, Rhythm Heaven is great and I can't recall a bad game in the series, whereas your examples all have had at least one game that was mediocre. I think it's unfortunate there aren't enough Rhythm Heaven games out there, because in terms of total output I can see Mario Kart coming out on top, but proportionally speaking (which is what it seems Scott and Ant are basing this off of) Rhythm Heaven comes out on top easy.
@dectorey7233 believe me, rhythm heaven is great. however since they also base this on modern relevance I find it rather questionable since it hasn't has an entry since the 3ds, therefore it kinda falls in line with pushmo and that had multiple on 3ds (which by the way is down in B) and it makes me question it being above many of Nintendo's top franchises

It leads to safe bets rather than potentially great games. So solid puzzle games that aren't that much different or are much smaller in scope or depth being ranked higher than very diverse series doesn't make too much sense to me.
2:37:40 I’m bias with my 5000+ hour time with the Splatoon series, but it deserves to be way higher. High A low S at best. From the outside looking in the games may look similar, but everything about them are different. Different types of main weapons, new specials on the kits, all the new stages and returning ones with new stuff added and the list goes on and on make each game in the series unique. I hear this argument a lot from people who don’t actively play the game and I just think what do you want from the series to make it feel different for you? It’s a 3rd person shooter and a 3rd person shooter is gonna first person shoot. It’s not going to stop being one and each game as built upon the movement and how weapons play and there’s a massive and extensive meta, so what would get YOU coming back? The reason I play all the time is because I love it, but besides that Splatoon 3 added a massive list of badges you can unlock that act like achievements. There’s over 400 of them in the game and I have 320 of them. I love aiming for a goal and coming back for more and more achievements keeps me going. I learn more about playing different weapons from different classes and keep enjoying the game more from there. The single player of each game is great and it peaked with Octo expansion, but S3 story and side order are great too. S3 has the most content out of any of the 3 so far so if everything the game has doesn’t stick with you maybe the series isn’t for you which is why you justify the B ranking? I respect your opinions on the ranking, but it baffles me when I hear people say “the newer Splatoon games aren’t different enough” and that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Edit: not to mention the Splatoon series is MASSIVE in Japan. Like it’s 333x more popular in Japan than anywhere else. You could walk into a 7/11 back in Splatoon 2 and get a special download code for exclusive gear. We eventually got that gear as a MyNintendo exclusive deal. The merch is insane, the tournaments are insane. It’s just insane how popular it is over seas. It deserved to be higher on this list.

I played Mystery Dungeon for the first time like a year ago, and I'm an adult. While the writing isn't like y'know high art or anything, Rescue Team and Explorers of Sky actually do have emotional little stories to tell that are genuinely a big step up from what you'd get in a mainline entry. The gameplay, too, especially if you're into that more classic rogue-style stuff or at least will meet it on its own terms is really top shelf. I'm shocked both of them were so dismissive of it without even really giving it any flowers. There's a reason that there's like 5 separate Mystery Dungeon series. Hell, Shiren the Wanderer just got a brand new entry this year.
I really wish they weren't dismissive of Fossil Fighters and Yo-kai Watch either (especially as a massive fan of Yo-kai Watch, though it isn't a Nintendo franchise), but I don't know what I was expecting when I know Antdude has referred to them as "Pokémon at home" in the past and clearly thinks the term "Pokémon-like" is a suitable description for games of the monster-taming genre.

As someone who is in fact one of those passionate PMD fans its always utterly bizarre to watch people be so apathetic about the games. Like, do not get me wrong, i absolutely get it! It's a repetitive and potentially really unengaging gameplay style that must be really hard to connect with without either being a pokemon fan, a mystery dungeon fan, or getting into them as a child, the stories are slow burns, and the games are in fact designed for children. But, like. Explorers of Sky is one of my favourite video games of all time, I've replayed it to death, I've not grown any less fond of it over the years, so it's always really funny to get a whiplash reminder that oh, yeah, most other nintendo fans literally could not give less of a fuck about this series

The Mystery Dungeon games are so unapologeticly themselves. I can't blame people for bouncing off if they've given it a shot. They end up in my collection like the Dynasty Warriors or Tetris games where once I have one in a console generation I don't feel the need to buy any others until there's some major graphic update or some big hook. But I'm sure they all have their own hits.

Idk why but I felt like the Octo Expansion had much more creativity in its levels compare to Splatoon 3's base single player. The levels there weren't bad, there were much better than the base single player in the previous 2 games, but for me I prefer the Octo Expansion by a lot. Just my opinion tho

The original concept was entering a mystery dungeon with no items being identified and using your game knowledge to progress further than before. PMD only has one such dungeon.

I can't believe how dismissive Antdude was over EarthBound. I understand not liking the first game, but to say it's C-tier is really harsh. Even if it doesn't click with you, you can't deny how impactful the series was to everybody else. There's reasons why people keep talking about those games and drawing inspiration from them to this very day. It's a powerful, creative trilogy and deserves to at least be at the bottom of A-tier.
Mother fans like me would say it's an S-tier Nintendo IP, but I'm willing to admit there's flaws like encounter rate in M1 or how you can't buy multiple of an item at the same time, etc.
There's a lot of other things to consider for the ranking, I've played Mother and Earthbound, but the game is pretty cryptic, there's a bit of backtracking and Mother 1 requires so much grinding, in my heart it's an S, but being in B tier I think is valid

Still I wish every other RPG had the Earthbound method of when you find a monster you can one shot you just automatically win and don't have to waste time in a turn based battle. 2. You put 3D Metroid in S tier despite Other M and Federation Force being way bigger duds.
Other M is actually very good.
Luigi's mansion is a game with currently 3 games while Metroid has like 11 (excluding prime 4.) Luigi's mansion has one dud over Metroid's two but since Luigi has less games in his series, a higher percentage of the franchise is considered a 'meh' while Metroid has a higher percentage of quality
@Bobo12300 If we were talking about the Metroid franchise as a whole, then yeah, it would no doubt be S tier. But they specifically split it up between 2D and 3D. And while Prime 1-3 are obviously amazing, the other 3D games (Prime Hunters, Other M, and FF) are at best okay and extremely flawed at worst. That's only half the 3D Metroids being great when compared to 2/3 of the Luigi's Mansion series, and LM2 is overall way better than any of the bad 3D Metroids.

2D Mario is top S-tier, regardless of the New Soup games. Putting the series that perhaps defined the very idea of what a video game is in the public consciousness, more than any other series, below Puzzle League is shameful.

I'd argue that Xenoblade 1 was ahead of its time for an open world real-time JRPG on the Wii released originally in 2010. Every subsequent game (except for probably Xenoblade 2) only continued on or even built on what was so great about the original. Xenoblade is one of my favorite game series ever, and Xenoblade 1 is one of my favorite games of all time. It honestly still boggles my mind that when the game was being localized, Nintendo of America had no faith in the first game doing well in a time when it was exactly what the Wii needed in North America around 2011-2012.
@@alexandercorbett1147 I believe 2 is a less consistent game than 1, but its peaks reach far higher. All it really needed was probably 6 more months of development to iron out the technical problems and quality of life issues, and toning down the cringe in the early chapters, and it could have been seen just as favorably as the original.
Now that I saw his ranking, I think Ant needs to give Xenoblade X another shot. It's very different from 1-3 but has just as much merit.

The fact that despite Scott not being into the mainline pokemon games but still ranks it above Chibi-Robo, a series Scott presumably had a soft spot for until zip-lash, really makes me respect him a lot, he could’ve just swapped both franchises into different ranks and have Pokemon ranked lower, but he didn’t, so that’s pretty cool. If you meet pokemon mystery dungeon (especially the good one, I forget its name) as what it is - an mystery dungeon game for children + pokemon fans, then it does a very good job.
A story that hits the right notes for the target audience (seeing lots of different pokemon + easy to follow, but earnest). The gameplay is pitched at a perfect level, with lots of options to make the game harder for yourself if youre looking for more of a challenge.
The fact that it gets children into a roguelite with such an unusual set of rules to grasp compared to a 2d platformer or a railroaded rpg like pokemon is honestly pretty impressive to me.

While I don't have high expectations for Scott having much knowledge on Fire Emblem, I wish Ant had more experience with the series before Awakening because he and Scott basically rated 5 (6 if you're including TMS) out of 17 games for the ranking.
I know half of the games before Awakening only came out in Japan, and the ones that have officially released in the US are expensive to obtain physically. But The Blazing Sword is currently on NSO, and that in addition to Sacred Stones and Shadow Dragon both released on the Wii U eShop in the past. Pretty unfair to not even give those games a passing mention when they've re-released numerous amounts of time by now

Sales of the series were so bad that if Awakening didn't sell well the series would die. So Intelligent Systems was trying to end the series with a bang, and the game sold better than expected.

Pokemon Company definitely has the resources to make newer Pokemon games not be mid as all get out. They’re the BIGGEST franchise out there.
Fire emblem engage doesn’t have the best story. But my god is the gameplay incredible. For me the story in FE isn’t as important as the gameplay. That’s why I find it to be a good game overall
It's the best one I've played. Three Houses put me to sleep but Engage was, well, engaging lol.

I’m not sure if I’m crazy or not but I don’t see how Engage’s story is awful. Like it’s more simple and straightforward and sillier that other games but I wouldn’t see it as bad. Maybe that’s because I saw what they were going for in terms of the tone like a Sunday morning shonen anime vibe. Especially with the opening song. Yeah there are areas you can criticize but I don’t think see how the story is terrible.

The only issue I have with Engage's gameplay is that it's too stingy with resources (experience, money, etc) and there's no efficient way to grind
Most of the fire emblem games that people call bad are because the storylines are super bad. Fates and engage have very solid gameplay, but their storylines are painful
I just recently got into Fire Emblem myself, started with Awakening then moved on to Fates, and yeah the story of Fates is a huge drop in quality, but the gameplay is a pretty big step up. I love the changes to pair up to make it less broken, and maps are better than the mostly open fields in Awakening.
FE at its peak or even better entries destroys most things here.

Fire Emblem is too low. Saying it is inconsistent while putting Kirby in S is inconsistent
I'll admit that the phrase "there is no bad Kirby game" straight up isn't true when Pinball Land and the Curse games exist, but Kirby is still more consistent in quality than Fire Emblem, especially when it comes to the mainline games (the only one I don't like is Amazing Mirror).

I always like to see how different everyone views different games, we all have different tastes and interests that are scratched in different ways. Like for me personally I'd put something like Kirby or Yoshi lower, but EarthBound or Donkey Kong higher. Not that there's anything inherently better or worse about certain franchises, we just gravitate towards different things and that's alright.

I mean, even ignoring subjective game quality, the effort that goes into Xenoblade and fire emblem alone should be enough to put them in S. Breath of the Wild literally wouldn't exist without Xenoblade.

Xenoblade X was a fully open world on the Wii U, and it was that game that convinced The Zelda team an open world Zelda was possible, hence why they got Monolith to work on Botw. Monolith has a talent for constructing massive, detailed, open world games on limited hardware.
I guess Duke nukem forever deserved 100% scores by this metric then, 10 years of hard dev time went into that

You understand when I say "effort" I don't mean the nebulous act of working on a game, I mean the effort it takes to create gigantic, sprawling, deep hundred plus hour rpgs, with deep enriching characters, complex and unique gameplay, and incredible graphic fidelity on outdated hardware with a team that was at one point split in half to work on Zelda. To compare the effort that went into duke nukem to the effort that goes into Xenoblade, is life comparing a rubix cube to a playstation 5.
Xenobalde X's world was so massive, detailed well designed and impressive it convinced Nintendo that they had the talent to create botw, one of the most innovative games of the last decade. botw is as great as it is, because Xenoblade X was as great as it was. That is my point.
For context more people worked on Pokemon Scarlett and Violet, then worked on Xenoblade X. Google a screenshot from Pokemon S/V and compare it to a screenshot from X and tell me which looked like it had more effort put into it, considering how many people were involved with each.

Ok yeah as someone who is a huge fan of F-Zero, I gotta be honest with myself, it's not a game for everyone. And that's totally ok, not all games click with everyone. F-Zero has a steep learning curve and not everyone has the patience to put in the time to learn the game's mechanics. So I can understand why F-Zero doesn't click with Ant

I'm honestly fine with this, Rhythm Heaven is great and I can't recall a bad game in the series, whereas your examples all have had at least one game that was mediocre. I think it's unfortunate there aren't enough Rhythm Heaven games out there, because in terms of total output I can see Mario Kart coming out on top, but proportionally speaking (which is what it seems Scott and Ant are basing this off of) Rhythm Heaven comes out on top easy.
@dectorey7233 believe me, rhythm heaven is great. however since they also base this on modern relevance I find it rather questionable since it hasn't has an entry since the 3ds, therefore it kinda falls in line with pushmo and that had multiple on 3ds (which by the way is down in B) and it makes me question it being above many of Nintendo's top franchises
Also I'm pretty sure you can't screw up a Rhythm Heaven game without intentionally trying, it's like if you were to screw up Tetris

It leads to safe bets rather than potentially great games. So solid puzzle games that aren't that much different or are much smaller in scope or depth being ranked higher than very diverse series doesn't make too much sense to me.
2:37:40 I’m bias with my 5000+ hour time with the Splatoon series, but it deserves to be way higher. High A low S at best. From the outside looking in the games may look similar, but everything about them are different. Different types of main weapons, new specials on the kits, all the new stages and returning ones with new stuff added and the list goes on and on make each game in the series unique. I hear this argument a lot from people who don’t actively play the game and I just think what do you want from the series to make it feel different for you? It’s a 3rd person shooter and a 3rd person shooter is gonna first person shoot. It’s not going to stop being one and each game as built upon the movement and how weapons play and there’s a massive and extensive meta, so what would get YOU coming back? The reason I play all the time is because I love it, but besides that Splatoon 3 added a massive list of badges you can unlock that act like achievements. There’s over 400 of them in the game and I have 320 of them. I love aiming for a goal and coming back for more and more achievements keeps me going. I learn more about playing different weapons from different classes and keep enjoying the game more from there. The single player of each game is great and it peaked with Octo expansion, but S3 story and side order are great too. S3 has the most content out of any of the 3 so far so if everything the game has doesn’t stick with you maybe the series isn’t for you which is why you justify the B ranking? I respect your opinions on the ranking, but it baffles me when I hear people say “the newer Splatoon games aren’t different enough” and that couldn’t be farther from the truth.
Edit: not to mention the Splatoon series is MASSIVE in Japan. Like it’s 333x more popular in Japan than anywhere else. You could walk into a 7/11 back in Splatoon 2 and get a special download code for exclusive gear. We eventually got that gear as a MyNintendo exclusive deal. The merch is insane, the tournaments are insane. It’s just insane how popular it is over seas. It deserved to be higher on this list.
