@jameszetterman4487 Hard agree on that. Seeing Sin & Punishment get the love it deserves is great, but F-Zero really deserves it too and doesn't get enough recognition.
I played Mystery Dungeon for the first time like a year ago, and I'm an adult. While the writing isn't like y'know high art or anything, Rescue Team and Explorers of Sky actually do have emotional little stories to tell that are genuinely a big step up from what you'd get in a mainline entry. The gameplay, too, especially if you're into that more classic rogue-style stuff or at least will meet it on its own terms is really top shelf. I'm shocked both of them were so dismissive of it without even really giving it any flowers. There's a reason that there's like 5 separate Mystery Dungeon series. Hell, Shiren the Wanderer just got a brand new entry this year.
Haha absolutely. For consistent quality, initial impact and how much fan love there is, it's absolutely an S. I rank it on par with Zelda and Mario for me personally
I'd argue that Xenoblade 1 was ahead of its time for an open world real-time JRPG on the Wii released originally in 2010. Every subsequent game (except for probably Xenoblade 2) only continued on or even built on what was so great about the original. Xenoblade is one of my favorite game series ever, and Xenoblade 1 is one of my favorite games of all time. It honestly still boggles my mind that when the game was being localized, Nintendo of America had no faith in the first game doing well in a time when it was exactly what the Wii needed in North America around 2011-2012.
@@alexandercorbett1147 I believe 2 is a less consistent game than 1, but its peaks reach far higher. All it really needed was probably 6 more months of development to iron out the technical problems and quality of life issues, and toning down the cringe in the early chapters, and it could have been seen just as favorably as the original.
3:53:16 Aw hell nah. I can't believe how dismissive Antdude was over EarthBound. I understand not liking the first game, but to say it's C-tier is really harsh. Even if it doesn't click with you, you can't deny how impactful the series was to everybody else. There's reasons why people keep talking about those games and drawing inspiration from them to this very day. It's a powerful, creative trilogy and deserves to at least be at the bottom of A-tier. Mother fans like me would say it's an S-tier Nintendo IP, but I'm willing to admit there's flaws like encounter rate in M1 or how you can't buy multiple of an item at the same time, etc.
There's a lot of other things to consider for the ranking, I've played Mother and Earthbound, but the game is pretty cryptic, there's a bit of backtracking and Mother 1 requires so much grinding, in my heart it's an S, but being in B tier I think is valid C tier is very harsh though
The main problem here is thinking a tier list like this means anything or holds any weight when the fundamental idea is pretty stupid and comparing games with nothing in common makes zero sense
I mean only played Earthbound and my complaint is how cryptic and unfocused it feels. The ideas are great but sometimes the game gets so lost in bizarre concepts that I forget I'm trying to find another song piece. Though that may be because Earthbound was my first RPG. Still I wish every other RPG had the Earthbound method of when you find a monster you can one shot you just automatically win and don't have to waste time in a turn based battle. Every time I have to grind in a new RPG makes me wish for that so bad.
The fact that despite Scott not being into the mainline pokemon games but still ranks it above Chibi-Robo, a series Scott presumably had a soft spot for until zip-lash, really makes me respect him a lot, he could’ve just swapped both franchises into different ranks and have Pokemon ranked lower, but he didn’t, so that’s pretty cool. Also I have nothing against Chibi Robo whatsoever.
8:00 here’s a fun fact: The European version of Donkey Konga 2 actually included “Mr Boombastic” as one of the tracks, most famously sung by both Shaggy and Biggie Cheese
WarioLand and Rythm and Puzzle League heaven in S, but Fire emblem in B and Xenoblade in A? This... vexes me... I mean, even ignoring subjective game quality, the effort that goes into Xenoblade and fire emblem alone should be enough to put them in S. Breath of the Wild literally wouldn't exist without Xenoblade.
@mortalview2072 Xenoblade’s developers MonolithSoft were instrumental in the design of Botw’s open world. Xenoblade X was a fully open world on the Wii U, and it was that game that convinced The Zelda team an open world Zelda was possible, hence why they got Monolith to work on Botw. Monolith has a talent for constructing massive, detailed, open world games on limited hardware.
@@MaxM210 also what does this have to do with the SERIES itself? The devs helped out with a part of a different game series so what? It doesn't matter in this context
@@supershot9729 What does Duke Nuken have to do with my point? You understand when I say "effort" I don't mean the nebulous act of working on a game, I mean the effort it takes to create gigantic, sprawling, deep hundred plus hour rpgs, with deep enriching characters, complex and unique gameplay, and incredible graphic fidelity on outdated hardware with a team that was at one point split in half to work on Zelda. To compare the effort that went into duke nukem to the effort that goes into Xenoblade, is life comparing a rubix cube to a playstation 5. Xenobalde X's world was so massive, detailed well designed and impressive it convinced Nintendo that they had the talent to create botw, one of the most innovative games of the last decade. botw is as great as it is, because Xenoblade X was as great as it was. That is my point. For context more people worked on Pokemon Scarlett and Violet, then worked on Xenoblade X. Google a screenshot from Pokemon S/V and compare it to a screenshot from X and tell me which looked like it had more effort put into it, considering how many people were involved with each.
Most of the fire emblem games that people call bad are because the storylines are super bad. Fates and engage have very solid gameplay, but their storylines are painful
I just recently got into Fire Emblem myself, started with Awakening then moved on to Fates, and yeah the story of Fates is a huge drop in quality, but the gameplay is a pretty big step up. I love the changes to pair up to make it less broken, and maps are better than the mostly open fields in Awakening.
I just got off the phone with the Ohio Police (yes they're real) about Scott putting Pokémon Mystery Dungeon below S. They are aware of the situation, but want to build up more of a case first before acting. The statute of limitations on this kind of thing is 27 years so hopefully we'll see some results by then.
@HSE331 just because an rpg has mario characters in them doesnt make it any less of an "actual rpg" lol. gameplay wise most of them are way closer to a traditional rpg than xenoblade is.
His opinions basically boiled down to, “I couldn’t learn the controls so I didn’t like it.” Going off how he said he kept hitting the wall. A shame, but that’s probably been many people’s experience with it. Saddening considering once you do learn the controls it’s the best controlling racing game there is.
If you meet pokemon mystery dungeon (especially the good one, I forget its name) as what it is - an mystery dungeon game for children + pokemon fans, then it does a very good job. A story that hits the right notes for the target audience (seeing lots of different pokemon + easy to follow, but earnest). The gameplay is pitched at a perfect level, with lots of options to make the game harder for yourself if youre looking for more of a challenge. The fact that it gets children into a roguelite with such an unusual set of rules to grasp compared to a 2d platformer or a railroaded rpg like pokemon is honestly pretty impressive to me.
"If Luigi's Mansion didn't have a dud, it would be in S." 1. Luigi's Mansion 2, while the weakest of the 3, is by no means a dud. 2. You put 3D Metroid in S tier despite Other M and Federation Force being way bigger duds.
Look I'll be honest, I'm probably one of the VERY small group of Golden Sun fans who is fine with the DS one. I think the ending is a bit dumb but I can't say it was bad enough to warrant having no sequels since then.
Honestly I’d go so far as to say Dark Dawn is brilliant in a lot of ways, I think it’s better than the first one honestly despite being more flawed cause of its highs
@goldsmith8502 I'd still rank it third overall just because of how poorly paced it is towards the end, but it's basically right up there with the first one. Lost Age is basically the peak GBA RPG though for me.
I can't believe I waited for Mother to be brought up for 4 hours, only for it to be at the end and be in B tier... 🥺 At least Scott defended it a bit... Old school style RPGs are still being made to this day, and are definitely my favorite genre.
3:53:57 Ant Dude’s critiques on Mother are *very* fair, especially if that was just his experience with the game. But I appreciate Scott elevating the franchise to B. ^^ If you like EarthBound Scott, I do think you should give Mother 3 a chance if that itch ever comes to you. It’s absolutely fantastic.
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon in D tier is an insanely ignorant take. Sounded like both of them have never really played any entries. Ant at least made the point the people love the series and fought for C tier, but in my opinion it's a solid B tier franchise that has more than one good entry.
Splatoon deserves nothing higher than D tier for making Nintendo feed into the live service formula for future games in the most mediocre way possible.
I first played pokemon mystery dungeon blue rescue team when I was 22 last year and it was one of the best games I've ever played. Mystery dungeons at a bare minimum should be in A
Despite Antdude’s opinion on F-Zero, I do think people should try the series out. Mostly the ones after SNES. X, GX, Climax, and 99 are good starting points. That goes for all the other fans of all the other series on this list. Express why YOU love the series and what games to try.
I’m very much aware of AntDude’s opinion on F-Zero being the way it is. (One in which I just don’t agree with). I remember he said something very similar on Twitter years back, and I quote retweeted and critiqued his reasoning. But I feel like I can’t look at my past self. I was aggressive as hell, and I regret being the way I was.
Amazing video! does Princess Peach count? Super Princess Peach and Princess Peach Showtime? technically 2 Peach games, I wonder were they would rank. Also would be fun to do this with Sega games: Sonic, Nights into Dreams, Yakuza, Monkey Ball, Bayonetta (again) Biggest comment on this video is i could tell Scott just wanted to put everything Pokemon into D tier lol.
@supershot9729 That's not the point. The point is that it's better than those that I listed that are in S tier. I would put Luigi's Mansion in A as well but, taking into account that those are in S, it would be S tier as well
Bayonetta is my favorite video game. I don’t believe Bayonetta as a series should be ranked over Splatoon, because the series is one great game, one mid game, and one trashfire
❌️THEY NEVER MENTIONED the 'Cruisin' series❌️ ❗️My Timestamps: 20:24 I WANT A WOZ EPISODE of 'Lost Media', talking about all the games we can no longer play. 1:48:30 I played the 3DS 'Detective Pikachu' amd liked it. I sold it after completing it but regretted it for ages after. When the sequel was announced, I decided to re-buy it and the Switch game. The DetPik movie is WAAAAAAAY BETTER than those 💩ty 'Sonic' films. 3:20:27 Scott STILL keeps the Covid/Coronavirus out of his Videos. 3:40:57 I loved 'Custom Robo: Arena' and wish a NEW game would come out. A remaster would be fine but I'd prefer something new.
I get that Ice Climbers, Duck Hunt, Clu Clu Land, and Urban Champion aren't really franchises even with multiple releases and/or arcade versions, nor is ARMS. But if you're gonna include Bayonetta which wasn't initially a Nintendo series or Yo-kai Watch, you probably should have included Banjo-Kazooie. 4/5 games were made for Nintendo consoles, as well as Banjo's first appearance being in Diddy Kong Racing.

"If Luigi's Mansion didn't have a dud, it would be in S."
1. Luigi's Mansion 2, while the weakest of the 3, is by no means a dud.
2. You put 3D Metroid in S tier despite Other M and Federation Force being way bigger duds.
This is exactly what i needed, a nearly 4 hour video to listen to while i last minute Christmas shop
I think they Forgot Ice Climber.
It only has 1 game
Donkey Kong could be an S Tier franchise, but Nintendo has historically been braindead about what to do with DK.
Mystery dungeon in C is absurd
3:38:50 didn't antdude say he was actually gonna play the Yo-kai Watch games though?
another episode of scott pretending to not enjoy fire emblem engage to fit in as a Nintendo youtuber
It's not that great lmao its almost like he just doesn't like FE or rpgs all that much or something lol
@@supershot9729nah engaged is peak
@@samaru6855it really isnt though
he's not an rpg guy
I can't believe I waited for Mother to be brought up for 4 hours, only for it to be at the end and be in B tier... 🥺 At least Scott defended it a bit... Old school style RPGs are still being made to this day, and are definitely my favorite genre.
Four hours of scott and antdude? Christmas came early this year!
Hopefully he can find the rom and fan translation still for 3
It's good to see the two Wario series being so well received😊
The profile picture lol
Now, if only we can get a new Wario Land at this point. Warioware is riding high again, which is great, but now it's long over due for Land to return.
oh boy
im gonna be mad since there's [insert franchise] not included!!!
I'm in physical pain that Yo Kai Watch was covered but Professor Layton wasn't #JusticeforLayton
When I read that title, I just knew that there would be takes hotter than the sun.
Mystery Dungeon in D is just plain wrong, regardless of personal opinion.
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon in D tier is an insanely ignorant take. Sounded like both of them have never really played any entries. Ant at least made the point the people love the series and fought for C tier, but in my opinion it's a solid B tier franchise that has more than one good entry.
F zero in C is criminal
C for criminal
Is that a goddamn bong on Scott's shelf LOL
Now I'm imagining an alternate scotts stash where he reviews weed strains
Splatoon being B tier is so millenial gamer coded lmfao
Splatoon is at LEAST A tier
@@MorphBaller388na
Agreed. It's C tier at best.
Splatoon deserves nothing higher than D tier for making Nintendo feed into the live service formula for future games in the most mediocre way possible.
@pikachu896
What do you mean?
You aren't paying for anything extra outside of the Single Player DLC.
I cannot express how much RAGE I have for Antdude putting Splatoon in B tier.
Same. It deserves D tier.
Get over yourself people. It's PERSONAL lists
2:24:10 I cried during that cutscene (also 2 is amazing stop the slander)
Finally, Scott's opinion on Hamtaro as published by Nintendo! Its a Christmas dream come true!
Scott is pretty well-informed on xenoblade I fully agree scott!
These type of videos are great I love these especially the long ones
I love that Scott the Woz was featured in this AntDude video! :)
Mystery Dungeon damn-giver reporting. Explorers of Sky baked me a birthday cake and cured my great-uncle's diabetes so he could share it.
I didn't realize this was 4 hours when I clicked on it. I loved every minute.
I first played pokemon mystery dungeon blue rescue team when I was 22 last year and it was one of the best games I've ever played. Mystery dungeons at a bare minimum should be in A
*Checks schedule* Yep, I'm free tomorrow
I could watch a whole extended version of one of the Lord of the Rings movies, but nope. Here I am!
39:09 I love how Ant doesn't gives a fuck jajaja
Despite Antdude’s opinion on F-Zero, I do think people should try the series out. Mostly the ones after SNES. X, GX, Climax, and 99 are good starting points.
That goes for all the other fans of all the other series on this list. Express why YOU love the series and what games to try.
I’m very much aware of AntDude’s opinion on F-Zero being the way it is. (One in which I just don’t agree with).
I remember he said something very similar on Twitter years back, and I quote retweeted and critiqued his reasoning. But I feel like I can’t look at my past self. I was aggressive as hell, and I regret being the way I was.
you could give the soundest argument in the world, but pokemon in B tier will ALWAYS be a horrific call
This is awesome! I don't know the other presenter but I'm going to subscribe
antdude makes cool videos I think you should check him out :)
36:02 Dr. Mario Overdosed. Hire me
man these placements are crazy
@1:20:02 How many times did Scott say the word "like?"
I have had so many fun memories with Ken Griffey Jr. presents Major League Baseball on SNES and will defend it until the end of time.
"the thing from Clu Clu Land" her name is BUBBLES
Bubbles The Clu Clu Land
4 HOURS BABY THIS IS A REAL SCOTT SNIPPET
Seeing Rhythm Heaven in S is enough to make me forget any other placement that I may have disagreed with. Thank you guys
How is xenoblade not S tier?!
2:24:38 Scott’s monotone voice here had me dying 😂
I'm ready to be mad if Xenoblade isn't S tier.
I'm locked in
Telling the missus my evening is booked
Man I wonder what Ant will rank Kirby
Kirby, Rhythm Heaven and Wario Land in S but Xenoblade (or even Mario Kart, Donkey Kong and Luigi's Mansion) in A? C'mon now 💀
Luigis mansion is a 3 game series and 1/3 of it is super mediocre lol I think it's fair to put it in A, it really deserves the b spot tho imo
@supershot9729 That's not the point. The point is that it's better than those that I listed that are in S tier. I would put Luigi's Mansion in A as well but, taking into account that those are in S, it would be S tier as well
I love video games.
i am here for Wii
Bayonetta is my favorite video game.
I don’t believe Bayonetta as a series should be ranked over Splatoon, because the series is one great game, one mid game, and one trashfire
Me, I'm the guy who laments Elite Beat Agents once a year
In what world is Paper Mario the same tier as M&L which literally has not had a bad game😭
❌️THEY NEVER MENTIONED the 'Cruisin' series❌️
❗️My Timestamps:
20:24 I WANT A WOZ EPISODE of 'Lost Media', talking about all the games we can no longer play.
Honestly, I would put Mario Maker in with the other 2D Marios rather than separating them. And put them in S tier, of course.
I live for AntDude X Scott crossovers
I get that Ice Climbers, Duck Hunt, Clu Clu Land, and Urban Champion aren't really franchises even with multiple releases and/or arcade versions, nor is ARMS. But if you're gonna include Bayonetta which wasn't initially a Nintendo series or Yo-kai Watch, you probably should have included Banjo-Kazooie. 4/5 games were made for Nintendo consoles, as well as Banjo's first appearance being in Diddy Kong Racing.
Scott and Ant yapping about Nintendo for 4 hours Christmas came a little early
3:33:43 "Cat goes S-Tier"
Only you two can outrun a Lord of the Rings movie.
The carpet boys together at last
Holy shit Scott says "like" a shit ton.
Unrelated, but whats with the Outatime license plate? Is Ant a BTTF fan?
HOLD THE LINE ANTDUDE
Pikmin better be at number 1
Where is the Dempa Men series on here? ):
