    • @L7vanmatre
      @L7vanmatre 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The window is big is because the note speed UKOG had it on, is intense. Turn on show hit window, then change the note speed on your ingame profile and you'll see how it increases and decreases based on speed.

    This is a great explanation of calibration. I hope there’s a video out there for Rocksmith calibration

    • @Airtrooper719
      @Airtrooper719 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      0ms video will bring the chords closer to the fretboard. 50+ms will push the chords a bit further behind the fretboard (up on the screen). I always use 0. For audio calibration (on PC only) assuming you have an i3 CPU or higher/AMD equivalent, go into Rocksmith.ini in the steam game folder for RS. Copy and replace this text:
      [Audio]
      EnableMicrophone=0
      ExclusiveMode=1
      LatencyBuffer=2
      ForceDefaultPlaybackDevice=
      ForceWDM=0
      ForceDirectXSink=0
      DumpAudioLog=0
      MaxOutputBufferSize=200
      RealToneCableOnly=0
      Win32UltraLowLatencyMode=1
      Save the file and start game. If you get crackling/no sound or pops on the intro ALT+F4 out of rocksmith add 50 to MaxOutputBufferSize, save file and start game, keep doing this until you find a buffersize your CPU can keep up with. For slower CPU's you may need to use LatencyBuffer 4 but this will introduce a slight delay from your guitar. The settings above will give you low latency on the guitar but you must also be using either optical or 3.5mm audio output (headphones or PC speakers for example). If playing sound through TV/Monitor HDMI feed, you will always get unplayable sound delay no matter what you try.

    • @austinknox5217
      @austinknox5217 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Used to have trouble with the same thing. If your trouble is with alt strumming, then what you want to do is apply pressure with your index finger as you strum down with your thumb. No need to move your entire hand, just move your thumb up. It'll feel weird at first, but after a lot of practice you'll get the accuracy of thumb strumming with the speed benefit of alt strumming. Keep in mind that this does lose its benefits when you get 24th notes and faster. For that you'll have to practice vibrate strumming or rake strumming.

    Another great tip for CH players after you've finished calibrating: some songs you import will be slightly out of sync in terms of their audio. If you notice a random song(s) giving you trouble after you've calibrated, slow the song down (I go to 80%) and play through it.
    If the notes' audio plays before or after you're supposed to hit the note, pause and go to Song Settings --> Audio Offset. Go to negative numbers if the notes' audio was playing early, and go to positive numbers if the notes' audio was playing late. Go ahead and test your settings and tweak the number until the audio and notes line up exactly with each other.
    When you're finished adjusting and finding the sweet spot for the song, go back to full speed and the notes will be SPOT on. It'll save your setting for the next time you play, too. This shouldn't be a frequent problem if you've got your calibration perfect, but it's an extra tool to have perfect calibration on every song 👍🏼

      www.dwsk.co.uk/index_phase_shift.html
      Install the game (Phase shift) then on the game there is a calibration mini game where you play simple notes to the timing of a metronome. Once you're done the game gives you the ms settings for video and audio delay. Remember the numbers then put them into clone hero and your game should be calibrated!

  • @LimeGreenTeknii
    @LimeGreenTeknii 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Hold on, you said video offset wouldn't help you if your monitor had delay. However, if your monitor takes 60ms to show you what's happening, so you're always 60ms late, and you tell the game that you want to move the hit window 60ms later, wouldn't that fix the problem of the game always thinking you're late?
    Granted, it won't fix the problem of the notes "appearing" to be hit late on screen (you can't play the animation for the note being hit until the game has received input that it's been hit). Also, the audio cues for when you miss a note will still be late (you can't play the overstrum sound or cut the instrument track until the game knows it's supposed to.) However, doesn't it still fix the main issue that you're supposed to be hitting notes when you hear them, not before you hear them?

  • @del2345
    @del2345 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I use 40ms audio lag. I found that out by 2 things:
    1. Playing OGAP on Expert at roughly 50% speed
    2. I pressed the "Get Audio Lag" button in Clone Hero
    IMO, calibration for GH3PC was better. I just set it at 170 and that's it

  • @HeavyMetalGamingHD
    @HeavyMetalGamingHD 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One thing to add. Pixel response time (the ms value) on montors have absolutely nothing to do with input latency. Input latency is caused by slow image processing. For example TVs often do quite a bit of processing before they display the image. animation smoothing for example.

    I have a question about Rock Band 4. It's the first guitar game I have had access to for a while, because it was cheap, and was on the only console I own at the moment.
    So, what makes Rock Band 4 more "difficult" than other guitar games? Is the note window just smaller? Are there strange mechanics with hopos that are unique to it? Would really appreciate the reply.
    Btw your tutorial on learning to tap got me to fc the intro of TTFAF on rb4, and get a 96% on freebird so that's sick.

    • @daEINSTEINkid1

      Or any reply for that matter, can someone please explain what is up with this game?

    • @danielcogan8205
      @danielcogan8205 7 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      DirtyDollar Well, Rock Band's charts are usually easier than Guitar Hero's, but the time frame you have to hit notes is much smaller. This is why Rock Band 4's OGAP chart has given George so much trouble.

    • @daEINSTEINkid1
      @daEINSTEINkid1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Daniel Cogan Yea, I noticed that. When I play Guitar Hero 3 (with an arcade guitar) I am able to hit faster and more complex hopos than at home. It's kind of ridiculous.

    • @megamachopop
      @megamachopop 7 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Another big thing is that Rock Band doesn't allow ghosting of notes. So on HOPOs if you press a note between two notes that isn't there, you'll drop the HOPO and if you don't strum again you'll miss.
      On Guitar Hero all that matters is that the right note is pressed when it needs to be, regardless of how many notes were pressed in between.

    • @daEINSTEINkid1
      @daEINSTEINkid1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      megamachopop okay I definitely noticed that crap, it makes it so difficult to land most fast sequences of hopos. Not to mention it makes it a million times harder to get back into a hopo pattern. Good to know.

    Isn't Video Lag dependent on your display's input lag, not it's refresh rate? I researched this a bit for Melee netplay and found that refresh rate only has to do with how well your display shows smooth motion. I think to be simple, look up your TV/Monitor's input lag on Google using it's product number, then set the video lag to that number (Many TV's are just bad for precision gaming in general because they don't take input lag into account, only refresh rate which is fine for watching media). Audio lag is the difficult part for me that always kills my calibration, but remember that if you're using headphones, the audio lag should always be higher than through speakers since you're getting the sound more directly (IMO anyways).

    • @UKOGmonkey
      @UKOGmonkey  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yeah I should have gone into that more, was just on the fly a bit and forgot. Bottom line tho, if there is a big delay from your monitor when you hit a note and your tv doing it, you need a better tv/monitor. Cheers for the explanation

    • @blueburger4
      @blueburger4 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've found though honestly that if the input lag of the display isn't HORRENDOUS (80ms+) you can actually compensate for it fairly well with the in game controls but it takes A LOT of fiddling around. My TV has an input lag of 35 ms on game mode and I've been able to get it pretty spot on with a 50ms video delay and 250ms audio delay, although it took hours to really dial it in right.

    • @blueburger4
      @blueburger4 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because when you think about it a display is just showing what happens in the game and your audio equipment is just producing the sound. Therefore, if the hit window is where your pc thinks the note is and your TV is showing the note later, then your're just moving the hit window of the game later than where the note actually is by the same amount that it's delayed being shown to you and same goes for audio delay.

    I misunderstood what you meant when you said "If you have long delay on your TV or guitar, then you can't fix that".
    So that's true, for the Menu, you can't fix menu lag. But menu delay isn't really that important. The important thing is how to fix that once you're in game, strumming.
    That's why the Video Offset exists. You're telling the console how long it takes for the video to leave the console and get to the TV, and then however long the post processing is, until your eyes can see it.
    Of course, you can't use an in game console setting to change your TV, and wires. However, you are correct in what the actual function does. You change the timing of the hit window, to account for a TV with higher MS. So, the advice of "don't ever change this" might be correct for you, since your TV appears to be very low MS, but, for people with older or slower TV, changing the Video Offset is the correct solution.
    It might not feel true to call it Video Delay, but I feel like the full phrase for easy understanding for every person would be "Hitbox delay(ms) to account for video lag" and that's a bit unwieldy to throw into a menu xD As well as "If your TV has a video delay this setting adjusts the hitbox so you can line that up"
    In fact, as far as I recall (from warriors of rock? or others), it might have even changed the delay of all of the graphics. Like the entire track, and background, not just the hit box. So it seems like every game might have it's own solution or depth.

    The calibration process the games make you go through doesn’t work at all for me. I’m trying to use these old games on a new 4K tv so I’ll try the manual settings. I miss playing these games!

    Audio increase to hit late and video increase to hit first. Not both because they cancel each other out. Nothing to do with your screen.

    Can you help? I've connected my 360 guitar up..configured correctly. The strum up and down works fine to navigate the menu, but in game, the game only needs the notes to be hit, not the strumming. It's probably just a easy option needing to be toggled, but I can't work it out. Any help appreciated

    Okay, so it's not just me that feels like something is out of sync then.
    Edit: "get hardware latency" fixed my problem.

    wont let me press 3 or more keys and the strumming cuts out(btw i use keyboard) any idea

    • @julianvos1
      @julianvos1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most likely your keyboard doesn't support more than 3 key presses at the same time, which I'd imagine is also why your strumming cuts out.

    I have never been able to calibrate GH Live since I the 'play to calibrate' thing sucks dick and I cant figure out (even after watching this) how to manually do it

    • @lily__r
      @lily__r 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      playing on Xbox 360 and there's an advanced calibration section, maybe that'll help you out, you can define millisecond values in there

      I'm on the xbone and I've gone through all of the manual calibration options and it just seems off no matter what I put it to
      haven't touched the game in over a year and a half after trying to calibrate it over the course of 3 days. I don't care anymore

    • @lily__r
      @lily__r 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      what values did you eventually end up with? for some reason i managed to have 40/-5 to get everything right, which somewhat fits with what i have on ch (40 and 0 since we can't go negatives) i'm playing on same screen for both ch and ghl
      edit: ok i'm drunk i have -40/40 on ghl :thonk:
      the descriptions also make sense, but it's weird

    You only have an option increase on either

  • @MoppchopperKeely42
    @MoppchopperKeely42 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Increase audio means you have to hit it soon. Increasing both at the same rate matches and does nothing.

    My calibration on Clone Hero changes. Is this a known issue? I'll get it perfect but then the next time I play it'll be off with the same settings and I have to change it to something else.

      It isn't.

    • @zacharyzermeno4839

      So you can't

    • @michaelm.2736
      @michaelm.2736 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. The only way to auto strum in any of the games that I know of was that glitch in Clone Hero, version 13 or something, and even then, that was on All HOPO mode (where all the notes are HOPO's). Newer versions fixed that. In the main series (the actual ones), there is no option or cheat that is like that, at least as far as I know.

      Xeonic What guitar are you using?

    • @veggie928
      @veggie928 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrLuigi002 An Xbox 360 Xplorer for Rock Band.

    • @MrLuigi002
      @MrLuigi002 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Xplorer connects to the PC via USB. It should be plug and play. What version of Windows do you use?

    • @veggie928
      @veggie928 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrLuigi002 I use windows 10, when I plug it in it doesn't change the controller, it stays at what I believe is my keyboard.

    • @MrLuigi002
      @MrLuigi002 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you start the game can you press Start on the guitar? If that doesn't work, check if the light on the guitar is blinking. If that's the case it means that the computer hasn't recognised the Xplorer as a controller.
