    Just to clarify: Although Banner viewed the Hulk as an imaginary friend in the comics, this does not mean this is the experience people with Dissociative Identity Disorder have of their Alters. To learn more about DID read www.nhs.uk/mental-health/conditions/dissociative-disorders/
    And check out this great interview th-cam.com/video/ek7JK6pattE/w-d-xo.html

    I disagree that the hulk doesn’t care about others “depending which hulk” he’s shown empathy on several occasions, he is very emotional but that includes empathy

    Hulk is such a great character and is my number 1 favorite character in all of fiction. So complex and strangely relatable in many ways (to me). Really wish he was done properly in the current films and mainstream projects.

    I’m sorry but 24 seconds in and I ALREADY love this video! FINALLY! Someone said exactly what I said! Hulk/Banner is one of the most intriguing comic characters of all time but mainstream media just sees him as dumb brute side character. It’s frustrating.

    This...this is why i love the hulk cusse i can relate to him, the self hatred, the feeling that yout the bad guy, the guilt of something you didint even know about, and the anger, the anger that builds up and erupts when you least expected, im still dealing with the anger the hate, but now i know that im not trully alone....right

    I'm working on a fantasy story with similar themes. However, the general representation of the id vs superego (I call them the Primal Mind and the Noble Mind) is represented by Infernal spirits and Celestial spirits. Or simply put angels and demons. Demons represent the Id, base instincts, desires, and needs, and focus on self-preservation. Angels represent the superego, morality, honor, ideals, and focus on abiding by the laws and morals of one's surroundings.
    In my experience, evil doesn't tempt you with selfish desires. It instead uses morality to take advantage of your sense of compassion, telling you to get involved with problems that are beyond your control or even none of your business, making you feel obligated to sacrifice more than you can afford, draining you of your resources, and making you harm yourself or others in the name of doing what's considered right. So, the only way to defend against this evil is to think of yourself and for yourself first and foremost, while being considerate of others. So, basically, I plan on showing demons in a more positive light while using both religious and political themes.

    To say the hulk's got no heart would be a flat out lie. I still remember when he met his cousin Jennifer in the 90's animated series. The dude was surprised he was not alone in the world and was willing to protect her at all costs. Even when she became, She hulk he regarded her in much the same way he saw Betty.

    It definitely feels the character is under utilized and is just played for gimmicks when his story and theme is one of the most compelling of any “hero” story’s. Hulk was always my favorites even when I was a kid cause it was kind of unclear how you were supposed to feel about him, even from a child’s point of view. Spider man was the hero, captain America, hero, any avenger or well known marvel type was just there to do good even if they had their ins and outs. But hulk was probably the first character that actually made me think a little as a kid and showed the grey area of life and that things aren’t so simple.

      Most of the time if he’s raging out for no genuine reason then just leaving him alone for a bit will solve the problem and he will calm down(now if he wants getback bc you did him wrong tough shit you’re cooked)
      So the fact that heroes still try to jump him when all they really need to do is remove him from population centers is kinda wild. Half the damage hulk causes is bc no one listens when he says to leave him tf alone

    Like Wolverine, the Hulk is misunderstood as a monster but he's more than that. In the comics, The Hulk is a manifestation of Bruce Banner's Dissociative identity disorder due to the abuse of his father, Brian. It takes a certain trauma to unleash the monster within. But despite his destructive nature, The Hulk is and will always be a Force for Good.
    And for God's sake, Give him a solo film, already Disney!!! I get angry when they make stupid decisions.

  • @sonicmeerkat
    @sonicmeerkat หลายเดือนก่อน

    honestly hulk is the one super hero where he works best being explored post origin, cause movie hulks are always about the inciting incident and banner trying to repress his anger until the big fight at the end, but banner and hulk are way more interesting after they have some control over when they transform and the hulks own personality gets defined.
    the closest we ever get to that in the mcu is thor ragnarok but they don't so much agree to exist together but bruce surrendering himself to the hulk personality until the sequal where hulk just refuses to be used after being beat up by thanos, which don't get me wrong, is actually an amazing plot for a hulk story, but it wasn't a hulk story and its resolution was cut. and personally i just hate professor hulk in concept.
    i like when hulk is smart, earths mightiest heroes is a good example, he rightfully gets offended at the avengers assuming he'd go rampaging when he walks off to blow off steam and knows the tiniest bit of science, he does have a scientist in his head afterall he would pick up some things, but professor hulk is just banner with hulks powers. it's just super lame both cause its zero downsides reducing character drama and it erases a very interesting character dynamic.
    especially stings cause ragnarok and infinity war actually shown the hulk having a character beyond "grrrr i'm angry" or "smash >:3" giving hope for a solo movie but no, professor hulk, and the sequal is him training another normal person with hulk powers, i'm sure she hulk is a decent character in the comics but just seems like such a downgrade to the originals character.

    • @nerdstudios_
      @nerdstudios_  17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I agree! I think one of the worst parts about Professor Hulk was that he came about off screen. we didn't get to see the mental and emotional turmoil of Hulk and Banner working through their problems. It was just BAM, Hulk dabs now. I also thought Hulk was played mostly as a joke in infinity war and End game, which I found really disappointing.

    Banner/Hulk is my favorite Marvel character.
    I highly recommend reading Hulk Season One.

      @@nerdstudios_ thanks for the reply. In fact, most of Marvel Season One is worth checking out. Hulk, Iron Man, X-Men, & Fantastic Four were especially good in my opinion. There were several other good titles. But those were the ones that I remember most. It was basically "what if" style reimaginings of their 60s origins in the Modern Era, with new twists and characterizations.
      But not as edgy or dark as Ultimate Marvel or DC Earth One.

  • @LikeToWatch77
    @LikeToWatch77 ปีที่แล้ว

    I disagree with one small point which is actually quite large. Banner isn't the super-ego. Banner is the ego. The ego is the one who tries to hide the id. It's the super-ego who balances the id and the ego. In more modern psychological terms we say executive function instead of super-ego.

    • @nerdstudios_
      @nerdstudios_  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your thoughts! I decided to label Banner as the Superego (our internalised sense of right and wrong) because he punishes Bruce with guilt (as the superego does to the ego) and because my point was that Bruce had to learn to mediate between the Id and the superego (as the ego does). But my knowledge of the psychodynamic theory is only A-level standard so could be wrong 😂

      @LikeToWatch77 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is what I said! Out of context it doesn't make much sense, but I was making a distinction between the three parts of Bruce Banner: Banner, Hulk and Bruce or the Superego, Id and Ego respectively. So Bruce as a person needs the critical part of him (Banner) to keep him moral. Hope that makes sense, thanks for the feedback!
