Even in relatively early pieces like this suite you can detect the organic "continuum" (for want of a better word) of orchestral components in Sibelius. It's almost as if everything becomes part of a homogeneous totality, a "work in progress", leading toward the two final masterpieces, the Seventh Symphony and "Tapiola". Which is not to say that the individual pieces can't be delighted in : the five movements here are sublimely composed, the performances by the NZSO outstanding....
New listening experience for me. I'd never until now heard😊 this work, or anything by the New Zealand Symphony.
