    That really is a beautiful tool/dress watch. It's an 'explorer' that keeps better time.

      Good point Andrew. In fact my other GS (the SBGN027) which I have just bought for the second time (long story!) is like an Explorer 2 with better fit on my small wrist, and higher accuracy. Adrian Barker compares his Explorer 36 with the SBGX 261 on his channel. The big downside with GS is the residuals, which means you need to be sure you want it and will keep it, otherwise you can get stung....

      Hi Dimitri,
      I couldn’t agree more. It’s a wonderful watch.
      I have my eye on the newly released SBGN027.
      It’s a stunning GMT with the 9F movement in a 39mm case with 200m water resistance and a 4 O’clock crown. The price looks very competitive too.

    Such a lovely watch. A calm watch. It just is. I only came across this GS last week in a jeweller. Perfect size. Virtually no service costs due to the high end quartz movement. I have a Cartier Cougar which I bought in 1991 alas the dial seems so tiny these days so never wear. Very tempted with this GS.. when my next boat comes in 🙂

      Yes it’s a great watch and a firm favourite of mine.
      Having thought about the video a bit more, I suppose I should have mentioned the 19mm bracelet as a negative. However I would never replace it so it’s not an issue for me. Also there is no lume, as some people have mentioned but for me, again, this is not a disadvantage as I think it would spoil the classy aesthetic.

    Definitely a fan of better quality quartz watches (digital and analogue). I cannot see the attraction of mechanical, and especially, automatics. Strangely it was not like this 10/15 years ago. The same applies when it comes to the fad of outsize watches.
    Chances are Seiko also produces a 33, 34 or 35mm version of this and keep it for JDM only.
    A few years ago I was in the process of buying "The Citizen" when I was informed that they would not sell to me as I was not in Japan. They require non-Japanese customers to find someone in Japan to buy on their behalf. It is the same when it comes to servicing; you need a Japanese middleman.

    • @outsiderwatches
      @outsiderwatches  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the High Accuracy Quartz do make a compelling case against even the best automatics. I would say though that there is something very special about the micro engineering that goes into a mechanical movement, especially when they achieve COSC levels of accuracy.
      I think I will always have a huge appreciation for both.
      Rob

    Thoroughly enjoyed that video thank you very much indeed for posting it.
    The watch is, of course beautiful and such a refreshing change to see that second hand hit each and every one of those highly polished markers.
    A Grand Seiko that's at the more affordable end in terms of cost looking as gorgeous as your example does is a tempting proposition indeed!
    I guess the only thing, well two things actually that keep me from pulling the trigger on one are the natural aversion us watch fanciers have toward quartz in general and the thought of hefty servicing bills combined with all the palaver of having to send the watch thousands of miles away for the aforementioned service.
    Having said that I must say your excellent video presents a compelling argument in favour of purchase.
    Food for thought indeed...

    • @outsiderwatches
      @outsiderwatches  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Thanks Peter,
      I really appreciate your kind words.
      For what it’s worth, the 9F62 quartz movement has a recommended service interval of 50 years as the movement is sealed and separate from the battery compartment. So you should be able to send it to a local Grand Seiko dealer for a battery change and seal check, or even change the battery yourself if you are confident enough.
      Hope that helps.
      Rob

      This calls for further investigation ( as they say!) lol...I
      Assuming there's no problem vis a vis battery changes the Grand Seiko is looking an even more attractive proposition.
      Thank you very much for the information and again a big thank you for the excellent post. Bye bye for now.

      Hi Morgan,
      Good point about the micro adjustment. I must be lucky as the watch fits really well as it is. I guess if my wrist gets slightly larger or smaller I may lament the lack of adjustment.
      As for the Sea of Clouds, it is beautiful. It’s bigger at 40mm but its short lug to lug of 46mm is brilliant so it will wear well on smaller wrists.

      I'm a WOSTEP certified watchmaker. Graduated 2004 after three years of training and even did 12 weeks of internship on Vacheron that final spring.
      GS was (together with NOMOS) already back then a brand we really admired. We saw the rise of FPJ and immediately understood that guy was special. Back then even Richard Mille also actually was cool. Cedric Johner made his first Abyss and Roger Dubois finally started to make a name for himself alongside the likes of Parmigiani and Voutilainen. Those were great days man, really great days...A very small but really knowledgeable world wide community enjoying the "novelty" of internet and love for watches together. 98% on this chanel don't even know the very basics of the mechanics inside yet they have veeeery strong opinions on whether one should go quartz och mechanical and they are usually the guys who covets chronographs the most too. 😄

    Lovely looking watch! I have a couple of GS models with the 9f movement and love them. The 19mm lug width is a bit of a pain, but if the bracelet is good enough, then why bother swapping? The only thing I’d like to see would be some lume, then it could really be an amazing daily watch. Keep well :-)
