  • Buying an Acura NSX? Then this is the video to watch. In this buying and depreciation guide of the Acura NSX, I am showing you the full depreciation curve, the depreciation per year and per 1000 miles driven. Furthermore, I show you how these numbers compare to the Mclaren 570S, Audi R8 V10, and Mercedes Benz AMG GT R.
You can contact me on fourwheeltrader@gmail.com if you would like a personalized analysis.
Mclaren 570S analysis: • Why everyone is wrong ...
Audi R8 V10 depreciation analysis: • Buying your first Audi...
Mercedes Benz AMG GT R depreciation analysis: • Mercedes Benz AMG GT R...
The video is structured in a top-down way. That means that we first have a look at the full market and some general price levels. After this, we will dive into the details.
Specifically, this means that the video for the Acura is split into a few parts. We will start by having a look at the full NSX market. As you will see in the video, the market is small and the price variation is large. Also, there are quite many new cars for sale. In the second part we will have a look at all the depreciation numbers. The depreciation per year is, with exception of the first year of ownership, extremely low for this type of car. After the first year, the depreciation flattens rapidly. The depreciation per 1000 miles is in line with other cars in this segment. In the third part we will compare the curve of the Honda NSX to the one of MClaren 570S, MB AMG GT R, and Audi R8 V10. In this comparison, it is evident that the NSX scores the best. The premium which you initially pay for the other cars fades away quickly. In the fourth step, we see that the forecasted values are good and that this is in line with the rest of the depreciation curve.

I've been watching the used NSX market for a few years by monitoring Cars and Auto Trader dot com. They've actually ticked up in price the last several months. 3 to 4 months ago was the time to buy, if you could. While everyone was in lockdown and cars became hard to buy and sell, there were always between 40 and 50 cars available for sale, with the higher mileage 2017s well below 110k, a few as low as 103. At any one time you could find 4 to 5 options for less than 110k. Since then inventory has been in the low to mid 20s with the lowest cars in the 110-112 range for the highest mileage options. Lower mileage 17s have ticked back up into the high 110s to mid 120s.

Agree a few months ago investors picked up the cheap ones, prices now on rise as this well researched piece suggests. i8 Roadster is where investors are placing money now (40% discount on list too), result is they will start rising soon as they are lamented post their production cessation.

Used Toyotas and Hondas always sell higher than US and German brands because of the difference in reliability. Mazda is the underdog because even though it's vehicles are very reliable, many buyers who have never owned one previously, are unsure about their reliability.
Another car that is sold in low numbers but is an excellent car is the Lexus LC500h. It'd be interesting to see how those and the LC500s are depreciating.

Hi again, looked to get an NSX before finally getting a 488. Problem is here in the UK there are so few on the market you can't tell whether they are depreciating or then appreciating after a certain period. Honda are extortionate here on extended warranties for 4/5th year ownership - 12.5K or 2 years!! and 3.5K for 2 years servicing - more than a Mac/Ferrari/Lambo etc. (put me off getting one). The real reason why they hold their price once over a year or so old is that they're really isn't that many available.

      @TheTimmyH 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@I This is in the UK...and was quoted to me from 1 of only 2 dealers near London that actually service the NSX here. Maybe this is part of the reason there are so few on sale in the United Kingdom.

Can you please adjust these analysis based on the actual sale price of new cars. Take the NSX for instance. Average dealer is giving $25k off MSRP. On the Corvettes, you can get 12% off msrp (c7 when they were new cars). This drastically changes the initial depreciation expectation.

The problem with the NSX is, there's hardly any demand for them. Talking about the UK market, the same cars are on Autotrader since a year ago but they don't reduce the prices. No idea why, might have something to do with them being at Honda dealers. You can also see it in your data, why are there so many cars for sale if its limited production? Why do so many have low mileage? I bet the average NSX mileage will be lower than the cars you compared them to (R8, AMG, 570s).

For sure this is very interesting, it is one of my favorite dream cars, but I think the main problem not the badge but what it is for 180k to 200k msrp new, u get a tlx interior with some what tlx on steroid exterior. I think it looks awesome, but my friends told me it looks like 30k acura. Which now when I think about it, its kinda true, consider its suppose to be Honda Halo car. The Lexus LC 500 does a better job AS A HALO CAR than this car, it stands out in both exterior and interior, something special; however, the lexus is a GT car and half of NSX price. C8 performance is also creeping up to NSX Performance for more than half price.

Not sure why you have compared the interior of the NSX to a TLX they're not even close. The NSX's exterior looks nothing like a TLX either but rather more like a Ferrari 458 or a McLaren 570S. Name any other car that is a mid-engine, all wheel drive, twin turbo hybrid for $157K new that will perform a 0-60 in under 3 seconds and run a 1/4 mile in less than 11 seconds stock. You can't! This kind of technology is in the 918, P1 and the LaFerrari. Even better is the NSX unlike the 918, P1 and the LaFerrari doesn't require plug-in to recharge and it's not a $1M+ dollar car. The second generation NSX is also not mass produced with only a little over 2,000 produced since 2017. It's a driver's car as well. It was designed to a be a surgical knife on a track and not just some one trick pony that's only known for it's 0-60 times.
I realize design is subjective but I have to question whether or not you have even seen a second generation NSX in person. Especially when you have stated that a friend had to describe to you what he felt it looked like to you. The Lexus LC500 although a stunning design by Lexus failed miserably. I owned one for 3 years before getting my 2018 NSX. The LC500 interior is definitely more luxurious than that of the NSX I will agree however, it lacks any and all performance for it's MSRP of $106,500. As for the value you cannot really compare the NSX to a Lexus LC500 they're not even in the same class. The NSX is a hybrid supercar while the LC500 is a subpar GT.
Take a look at my channel to see my 720hp NSX and my LC500.

@@ELECTRICEYEMEDIA Aye Yo, Thank you for taking the time to discuss this subject. I read your comment and yes, most of your points are correct, it is one of the only hybrid performance supercars that being sold for 157k. And also those are all the reasons why, like I said in my original comment, "it is one of my favorite dream cars". I saw one at CNC motor in Highland California, but also since I am in Huntington Beach, I do see one every other week. Back to the only complaint I had about the car's interior and exterior, I think I will still stick with that, Infotainment strip straight out of a civic 2016, piano black, shiny plastic-like metal finish < this might be subjective.. Yes if you max it out, you could get a Carbon fiber option, which looks much nicer. Exterior-wise, the lobster claws tail lights in the rear were watering down to new Civics and Accord for 2019, and headlights similar to 2017 Accord Touring and Acuras. Ok, now, Do I love and respect the car for its technology and performance? Yes !, Would I want to own one? Yes. Again, I am not trying to bash the car, I understand there are trade-off for performance, and maybe who knows, if it does have the perfect interior + exterior, it would 200k+.

@@ELECTRICEYEMEDIA Also in the video seems like there a lot of new 2020 NSX are selling for 160k -> 200k. Maybe for that price, a rear-engine, all-wheel drive, sub 3-second car would be a 911 Turbo. But I do understand 911 could come out more expensive than the NSX.

      @@lamboman2 the 1991 Nsx was $60k, 92 was $65, and by 95, it was already $81k.
1991 corvette was $33k. The ZR1 with 100hp+ over the Nsx was about $65k.
Chevy increased the price of the corvette but by 1995 it was still about $36k. The price increase was certainly more modest than the Nsx. 1995 zr1 was about $68k. By then it was a 400+hp beast whereas the Nsx was still the same 270hp.
The Nsx was also never built like the corvette. The Nsx has always been hand built whereas the corvette has always been a car coming off a mass production assembly line at bowling green.
They couldn't be more different in terms of design philosophy and purpose. They are both legends in their own rights.
The new Nsx is more of a modern interpretation of the Nsx. It's also important to note that while both are called the Nsx, the original Nsx stands for new sports car experimental, whereas the new Nsx stands for new sports car experience. Subtle but very important difference there.
