It's crazy that two bands that people thought were throwaway nu-metal bands back in the late 90's/early 2000s would be absolutely amazing Live. Disturbed's David Draiman and Staind's Aaron Lewis both have powerful and amazing voices live.
Also, it's pretty incredible that your video is sitting at 4.8k likes and 0 dislikes. I have the google chrome extension that shows the dislikes and thankfully nobody disliked this video. Your content is great. Loved your Smashing Pumpkins and Dream Theater reactions.
I’m in my 40’s, the Gen that knew the great rock bands from the 60’s to the 80’s, the beginning’s of rap to alternative and the rise of country to pop music… every time I hear this song it’s the most visual song I’ve ever heard and I’ve heard the original.. the verse “ when my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light that split the night” just leaps out of the radio. like watching an exact movie production of your favorite book. Just really puts me in that space.
Paul Simon, wrote a prophetic song, that actually happened. Art Garfunkle did not write it. Paul wrote it alone, in the dark, in the bathroom, one night.
This.....all of this. Simon & Garfunkel wrote a warning. Disturbed added the context of a call to action. Both songs are epic, and I can't call one a 'favorite version', but this performance should help one find the motivation to do what they can to enact a positive change.
I love love love the original by Simon & Garfunkel-- a soft, hippie light, peaceful tone giving a very prophetic warning, delivered in an almost religious revival, laid back sort of tone. I hear hope in their voice that the World finally learns to listen and connect with one another to make it a better place. I was only 5 yo when this song was first released, but I grew up listening to it in the 70s during my teen years. Such a deep song, relevant then and even more so now. This version by Disturbed though? OMG. What a booooooooming voice!!I love it so much as well! Powerful, extreme intensity, forboding and a bit dark, and more of an "I told you so" kind of vibe message to the World, who had unfortunately not heeded the warnings of the original song. That is my interpretation anyway. Great reaction video, as always!! Thank you for sharing. Message to all of those who worship and follow hollywood and entertainment celebs ( uhm? Insta?! Tiktok? etc), as well as to those who cannot separate themselves for 5 seconds from their smart phones/screens/nonstop selfies:----- yeah, the Neon god, imho. Don't worship it! Live your "real" life -- hang up the virtual one before you are too old to go out and enjoy the WORLD. I am not just saying this to the younger generation, either! I am saddened to say that many MY age are also guilty of isolating themselves with technology that keeps them from interacting with others IRL. Go out. Take a walk. Go shopping in an actual store --- what few remain! Talk to your neighbors. Visit your friends. If you have to use your smart phone, try calling vs only texting! I don't think I would recognize my nephews' voices! We only get texts. Ugh *steps off soapbox* :)
David Draiman is classically trained, and in his younger years, he was classically trained as a cantor, who is someone that sings liturgical music and leads prayer in a synagogue. But after being expelled from three different yeshivas and blowing up his high school rabbi's van, Draiman wasn't cut out for the seminary, and the rest is heavy metal history 😎
I’m 63 yrs young & Disturbed’s version hit me harder then S&G’s because David Draiman made it all the more easy to understand! I’m a huge fan of Disturbed & this made me fall more deeply in love with them! 💛
As a person who remembers this song when it was still new and on radios top 40 (big deal back in that time). I like this version but I’ve revisited this song all throughout my life and Simon & Garfunkel’s Version for someone like me could never be replaced. It’s just a permanent part of the ether. But this is definitely the second best version I’ve heard. But as I age I realize there are certain things that I’ve heard and now only want to hear that way….it is ….comforting…..to me it’s like coming back to an old friend….familiar and it wraps you in that known feeling of warmth and nostalgia. (Hope that came out my point is understandable).
My best friend's son went to high school David Draiman. He does have a very powerful voice. That voice goes straight to the soul in his rendition of this song....at the end of this song, I have tears....
This man is one of few that brings on the goosebumps and tears with his voice. Fucking amazing. There's a video of him singing this without music... Holy shit.
Draiman voice is like a physical embrace. Almost like the listener becomes a child again and his voice pulls you up on his lap wraps itself around you and makes everything warm and safe for a bit. unconditional. This performance lets us hide there for just a few.
David Draiman trained to be a Jewish Cantor. He was disillusioned with the Church and decided to do Heavy Metal instead. He has one of the most impactful voices I have ever heard and I'm 59. I've heard A LOT of music.
This man's voice has a "command presence" (Sound of Silence). Anyone, regardless of music genre preference, will likely acknowledge, him singing this song, easily garners an emotional response. Even those who do not or cannot understand the lyrics will likely feel some type of common powerful emotion. This rendition to me is awesome.
I’ve seen Disturbed live in concert in 2019 and man it was incredible. He sang this song and I have to say hearing it live in person is absolutely amazing. He has one of the greatest voices in music history not just in rock/metal.
THIS was the version I hoped you would here. The power. The poetry. The live performance. Draiman took it to it to the next level! It gave this poet everything she could need to go along with the original version. So glad you reacted to it.
If you've heard a lot of his songs before and are used to his normal voice, he sounds noticeably congested and inflamed here. But a pro's gotta do what a pro's gotta do. The show must go on.
I don't care what size venue I see Disturbed live in, David sounds amazing every time! When he sings this the entire crowd is mesmerized and I get full body chills, so incredibly power full! Hands down one of the best voices of all time...IMO
I couldn't tell you how many times I have heard the live as well as video...I prefer the live...doesn't matter he is SOOO great! What a voice! Brings me to tears...xx
He's sitting down because he was recovering from the flu! This band will be a deep rabbit hole for you! A Reason To Fight The Light Hold Onto The Memories Land of Confusion are great ones to continue with!
The people that do the singing for distuurbed, breaking benjamin, shine down, slipknot/stone sour, and Black Sabbath sound exactly like their amazing albums…. Live
I can sit up all night long and watch all the different reaction channels of people having their eyes widen upon hearing him, or jaws dropping. Leaving reviewers speechless or in tears. Same thing with Johnny Cash’s video for Hurt. Disturbed doing this, Johnny Cash doing that, and Skynyrd doing Freebird live never ever gets old and gives me goosebumps every single time I hear them no matter how long or how many times I’ve heard them. It’s just a phenomenon reaction to me hearing these 3 songs. You know what would be sweet? Disturbed do a cover of Bridge Over Troubled Water. Could you imagine how EPIC that would be???
Another great live performance by a powerful singer with an orchestra is "A Whiter Shade of Pale" by Procol Harem, live in Denmark 2006. Also great is "Nights in White Satin" by the Moody Blues" live at the Royal Albert Hall in 2000. Thanks for the great reactions!
David can always sing live exactly like their records! The man has major talent, great range and awesome control. He can go from baritone to angelic tenor, to rasp/grit/distortion and back on a dime....which is not easy to do. Have seen Disturbed live twice.....they are amazing! Loved your reaction Polo.
I have seen Disturbed live a few times live. They are hands down one of the most consistent and talent live performers. They are amazing! I hope I get the chance to see them again one day.
I have heard this song so many times and EVERY TIME it gives me chicken skin and my eyes will tear up from the emotions evoked in this version. This voice is a gift to the world. ♥
Even more impressive, David was sick during this performance. If you listen closely, you can hear his voice crack one time during the entire song. But, he recovered flawlessly. So, I guess you could say, he got down, with a sickness.
I can listen to this song 6 or 7 times back to back. My chest tightens and I get a thrill tingle through my ribs as the song progresses to crescendo!! They can perform this song anywhere and still feels the same as the recording. A favorite song to start my workouts with!
Best live band I have heard. I had the fortune to feel the energy first hand many years ago. The crowd became one unit as it swayed around like an extension of the music they played. A true master at work. 10/10
When you see it live, it's a gift. Disturbed puts the anger of not listening/hearing each other in the song. Simon & Garfunkel, it was more of a reaction and a warning. Disturbed gets it, 40 - 50 years later and we still aren't listening/hearing each other. I saw this performance first, never listened to Disturbed before and I must've looked for reactions all over TH-cam for the next week. I'm going to watch your reaction to the video now. Both are so powerful in their own way. Disturbed does some great videos.
The times I have watched this video as well as the studio version and the many reaction videos of the same are beyond counting at this point! This is one of the most profound videos I've ever watched. The production of his studio version was epic in that his visual interpretation of the lyrics was so current and prophetic in nature. I'm not surprised you enjoy it as you do!!
Can you imagine being at that show, knowing that the musical guest is a metal band which you might just have to suffer through (if you don't like metal), and then hearing them play this masterpiece so perfectly. Jesus what a night.
David, lead singer, was really sick the night they were on Conan. He had a over 100 degree fever with a major sore throat. David had to really lean on his classical training to get through the performance. He’s so amazing. ❤ Paul Simon told David that he actually liked his version better. Love that. ❤ 🤟
I think the word "purity' goes here. Clean, clear, precise. I can't think of another voice this gentle and powerful at the same time...and in interviews he's so laid back but open about himself...
Listening to the reactions here makes me think of when I played this song for my son (who was probably around 25 at the time, and very much into music of all genres). I really lucked out when it came to him not having heard the Disturbed version yet, though he was somewhat familiar with the Simon and Garfunkel version since that was a song I had always loved. His reaction was, basically, that this was a beautiful song, well deserving of its popular status in the original version, but that at the end of the day, Simon and Garfunkel had produced their version just so that Disturbed could someday transform it into what was in there all along.
You know what’s fun Bro??? I love watching multiple reactors to the same song like over and over all night long and watch their jaws drop, their eyes widen, their speechlessness or even brought to tears. You should do reactions of other people doing reactions to the song lol. Love ya Bro
Instant goosebumps with this song for sure. And yes he was sick while singing this. I've heard he was mad that they put a little auto tune over him but I can't even tell. This song is awesome
David and Disturbed are so great! You brought up Rodman and his piercings. Never fan of piercings but David wears them well. David and Chester were good friends too and remind me of each other..could be angelic and then hard core. Love, respect to each singer, band..thank you!
David’s voice is amazing no matter how you experience it. He is also an awesome performer. I saw them almost 20 years ago (HOLY SHIT ON AN ALTAR I CANT BELIEVE ITS BEEN THAT LONG!) I was a pavilion and it was freezing and raining, he came out to Down With the sickness and I was magical!! His voice is smooth and velvety yet powerful in a way that isn’t overwhelming! The best part? His head was steaming! Lol amazing
Best joke I have heard: When God was making David Draiman, he asked him if he wanted the singing voice of an angel or a demon. David said "Yes please!" Great reaction.
Disturbed brought the power this incredible protest song was so poorly missing. I loved the original when I was young. The new version brings my anger to a boil. And at this point in my life I need a powerful reminder of what the World still needs.
this song made me a big fan of Disturbed, and I am 70 and remember simon and garfunkels version there version was the warning, Disturbed version is the anger that nobody heeded the warning x
This performance is unreal 💖💖💖 David draiman can sing anything, would love to see more reactions to disturbed as this is not typical of them.Songs like prayer, inside the fire (brutal/graphic video) down with the sickness are all awesome 🤘🎸🎶🤘🎸🎶
I love watching your body language when you start listening to the music but then you truly hear it, finally feeling the music. The raw power, the driven intensity just add to the experience.
Since its release I’ve loved the video over and over… Disturbed brings the needed anger to the lyrics. It’s their brutal commentary on our world. The original version was a warning, a request for change. Disturbed’s version is a rebuke and disgust with the World’s disappointing changes since the original release. I’m 66 I feel the anger grow everyday. Thanks Polo.
In the verse about "songs that no one shared, and no one dared disturb the sound of silence," at the end of each phrase his voice weakens and slides down ever so little, like he's crying. First time I've noticed that. Then he goes on to get mad! Fantastic treatment of this song.
Glad you reacted to this live version. Sick, amazingly sick performance by Draiman who was recovering from a virus (possibly Covid), yet managed to pull off this powerful performance that turns my knees to jelly whenever I hear it.
You're so spot on. I have had bands/artists that I listen to where I loved a song or two that can't perform it live to save their life. Just like you said, it was altered and produced with after-effects. It's a different thing to see someone deliver it live and my lord does David Draiman and the whole orchestra nail it.

He was very ill that evening, couldn't even stand. But could sing like that, amazing.
Disturbed gave the song the vibe it was meant to have
David was very ill with the flu and had to be medicated to breath before this performance. Awesome performance!!!!
Simon and Garfunkel wrote a prophetic song about what could happen... Disturbed turned it into a reflective song of mourning because it DID happen.
Perfectly summed up.
Paul Simon, wrote a prophetic song, that actually happened. Art Garfunkle did not write it. Paul wrote it alone, in the dark, in the bathroom, one night.
Well stated.

Wow so true 🫵
He was sick, sat through the entire song, and still delivered a powerful performance. David is phenomenal.

Sorry, but that never happened. Simon reached out through social media and said "Saw you on Conan last night. Nice!". That's it.

This is one of the most moving live performances ever for me. I love it more than the studio version for sure 🖤
Disturbed earned a 2016 Grammy Award nomination for this performance!

My Son is a drummer. His first band was Heavy Metal so it's kind of ingrained in my DNA. DISTURBED is one of my absolute favorite groups.
The absolute raw power in his voice is astounding and significant. His version is the warning where the original was a foreshadow of what was coming.

Love ya Bro
It almost makes me cry! So emotionally touching. ❤
Instant goosebumps with this song for sure. And yes he was sick while singing this. I've heard he was mad that they put a little auto tune over him but I can't even tell. This song is awesome
Imagine being in that crowd to witness that!
David said "Yes please!"
Great reaction.
Disturbed brought the power this incredible protest song was so poorly missing. I loved the original when I was young. The new version brings my anger to a boil. And at this point in my life I need a powerful reminder of what the World still needs.
I sit back in amazement how his voice just I can't I can't explain it
His voice is so rich...
this song made me a big fan of Disturbed, and I am 70 and remember simon and garfunkels version there version was the warning, Disturbed version is the anger that nobody heeded the warning x
heard so many times, seen so many reactions to it... still get chills every single time
This is actually there best performance of this!
Love your reaction! This won is the best. Luv from Australia ❤️🎼❤️🎼❤️
I could listen to this song 10000 times , maybe more ;-)
Pentatonix does a fantastic job of this song TOO!
Great video, thank you.
Almost unearthly❤❤❤❤
This performance is unreal 💖💖💖 David draiman can sing anything, would love to see more reactions to disturbed as this is not typical of them.Songs like prayer, inside the fire (brutal/graphic video) down with the sickness are all awesome 🤘🎸🎶🤘🎸🎶
Be warned on Inside the Fire though. It deals with suicide. It is a great song and video though.
I watched him sing it live with a huge crowd of lighters and phones lit I recorded it and cried at the same time it was so beautiful
I love watching your body language when you start listening to the music but then you truly hear it, finally feeling the music. The raw power, the driven intensity just add to the experience.
Goosebumps for the entire performance
Since its release I’ve loved the video over and over… Disturbed brings the needed anger to the lyrics. It’s their brutal commentary on our world. The original
version was a warning, a request for change. Disturbed’s version is a rebuke and disgust with the World’s disappointing changes since the original release. I’m 66 I feel the anger grow everyday. Thanks Polo.
Amazing that he sounds so damn good when he was really sick too.
In the verse about "songs that no one shared, and no one dared disturb the sound of silence," at the end of each phrase his voice weakens and slides down ever so little, like he's crying. First time I've noticed that. Then he goes on to get mad! Fantastic treatment of this song.
So well articulated. Thnx for checking out this live one too. So right about the specialness of this performance! Awesome sauce
Bravissimo 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻♥️♥️♥️♥️
My this song has changed from 1966 Simon & Garfunkel on Ed Sullivan to this and it is just as fresh as the first time I ever heard it in 1966!
To me, Disturbed’ version gives me a “ grab you by the collar and shake you “ vibe along with the goosebumps!
Yep he does perform it live & it’s extremely powerful as is the vocals in all those songs !! Thanks for learning about them on your channel
Glad you reacted to this live version. Sick, amazingly sick performance by Draiman who was recovering from a virus (possibly Covid), yet managed to pull off this powerful performance that turns my knees to jelly whenever I hear it.
Brings tears to my eyes every time
The drums are called "timpani" (one is called a "timpano") or sometimes "kettle drums".
It's an orchestral percussion instrument.
You're so spot on. I have had bands/artists that I listen to where I loved a song or two that can't perform it live to save their life. Just like you said, it was altered and produced with after-effects. It's a different thing to see someone deliver it live and my lord does David Draiman and the whole orchestra nail it.
David earned his wings with this one, period.
Paul Simon was so moved at this interpretation that he put it on his website for all to hear. As for me, it simply made me weep.
