About biting the noodles, I think there's a bit of a misunderstanding. On birthdays, as a tradition, we eat a bowl of noodles called "longevity noodles." At this special moment, the noodles, which symbolize a long life, shouldn't be bitten off. However, for everyday noodles, there are no strict rules. It's really up to personal preference. For example, I prefer not to bite them because if I do, the noodles left at the end will be quite short.
Personality-wise, you two are one of my favourite TH-camr couples: The boy is a gentle giant and the girl is mentally and physically strong, a typical characteristic of German females. I will follow you every step of the way in the coming episodes.

If you eat in a restaurant in Guangdong, the waiter will usually put a small basin and teapot on the table for washing tableware. Washing dishes before eating is an etiquette tradition in Guangdong, which is different from other provinces in China.
As a Fujian native, I like this kind of tea in Foshan, Guangdong Province very much. I often go to restaurants to drink this tea without ordering soup.

The "peanut" sauce which you put into your bowl of soup noodles originates from Chiu Chow an area in the north eastern end of Guangdong province. It is actually ground-up peanuts, ground-up dried shrimp and ground- up chili, garlic etc. mixed in sesame oil. The sauce helps to spice up and brings umami to whatever you are eating and complements your beef ball, beef slices noodles. This particular sauce called 沙茶醬 (pronounced as Sha Cha ) is also popular in Southeast Asia having been introduced by Chiu Chow Chinese emigrating into these countries in the last century or so. As both of you are so open-minded with various types of food, you will enjoy your culinary adventure in Guangzhou.

you can say "Canton" as well. Can bring you to some country side if still here by weekend. Some basic background: 1. about Baiyun Air port (Baiyun means White cloud), it's the most busy Airport in China (63 million passengers 2023), 13th of globe (JFK was 14th). It looks good inside but seems like a giant cockroach in sky...LOL (Btw cockroach is a Guangdong Province local specialty. Big, running fast, and they can fly...Wink) 2. Guangzhou(canton) might bit more familiar to Foreigners, cause we got the most important Export fair of China is "Canton Fair" holding twice a year (spring and autumn). Already 2 million foreigners had been to Guangzhou through this Air port since 2024 Jan. So don't worry about the immigration. Besides, we got plenty relative around the world (As you know Chinatown around the world speaks Cantonese, which is the language of Canton(Guangzhou). What's more, besides of being the only trading city of whole china for few centuries, Canton was the international trading centre since like 2000 years ago thanks to the Sea port (They found Egyptian Antiquities in tomb age 2000 years). And that's why you can see a ship in 4:37. That's a commercial Ocean going cargo ship with story, that's the “East Indiaman Gotheborg” form Sweden who sailed to Canton for 3 trips (1739~1745) 3. 7:00 Line 3 also known as "the Deadly" for the crowded, especially the station of “Ti yu xi” which is homophonic as "Di yu xi" (means "west of hell"). Always crowded. 4. 14:26 well... There's a saying: 3 provinces of Northeast China is in One, but the one province Guangdong looks like 3. There are 3 different part of Guangdong, very different. ChaoShan is the eastern part. Their stuff is more like southern Fujian or Taiwan. (Btw you should order rice noddle instead...) 5. 20:20 you got it right, It's Satay. Ancient relative of Chaoshan bring it back from Malay like 4~5 centuries ago.
I am a Chinese who has lived in Germany for more than ten years. I really like this couple's travel videos recently. In fact, I found a very good evidence that they are not used or hired by the Chinese government. There are several videos about Chinese food in their videos. But these restaurants look ordinary, small restaurants on the street, and they cannot represent high level Chinese cuisine. But they enjoy these ordinary foods. If they were really hired by the Chinese government, the Chinese food they filmed should be in luxurious and high-end Restaurants. Have a good travel in Guangdong. Wünsche euch eine wunderschöne Reise in Südchina. Übrigens komme ursprünglich aus Nordchina heißt Dalian, also herzlich willkommen auch in Dalian.
The home of DIM SUM! One of the best meals on the planet! Can't wait to see you two eat your way through some of the best food in the world, they've had thousands of years to perfect textures, flavors, and ingredient combinations. Cantonese is the main language. If you like somethings and want to compliment and thank those that made the food for you, say (Ho' Sik) The inflection is on the first syllable. They will be grateful and be appreciative you made the effort. There are also two ways main of saying "Thank You" in Cantonese. In total there are 4-6 ways. Memorize the main two by looking up videos "How to say Thank You in Cantonese".
27:27 “唔该”in Cantonese is to appreciate someone who just help you out something, e.g. A waitor delivered the food on your table. We also say it like "excuse me" when we want someone to give you a way to move forward.
I was on a business travel to guangzhou last month. Though it has been rainy for about several weeks, the weather there was still extremely hot and can’t bear it!
I have lived in Guangzhou for 20+ years, trust me there are a lot more delicious food not only in downtown, but also in remote areas like suburban districts, next time if you come here again maybe I can show you around suburban areas to try more local and fresher food, chicken, pigeon, goose and pork ribs:)
About the noodles, in China, it is kind a tradition to eat noodles on your birthday, on that day, you will not suggest to cutting off your noodles when you are eating. However, for the daily meal, it doesn’t matter how you eat the noodles😊 Have a nice trip in China 🎉
Yes. And for the birthday noodle, it usually would be cooked in one very very long noodle without cut to different pieces like daily noodle. So you cook it in one complete noodle and eat it without cut as well. It means you will live a long life as the long noodle. But for daily noodle you can eat whatever you want.
哈哈! "唔该" Super nice to say that! Also you can say : "唔该晒" 😊 If you have time, you can visit ShunDe for super great food and place to play (nearby Guangzhou, take Metro can reach there). Also, you will find out more people conformtable to speak English in Guangzhou.
Noted that you have planned to Yunnan afterward. I strongly suggest that you take a travel to Dali too which is a district in Yunnan. A couple vloggers from Scotland are also on their way exploring in China. Recently, they have at first planned to travel to Dali for 1 day but at last, using their words "they have stucked there" for 14 days because they have been so much enjoyable there.

In Guangzhou you can go to Yongqing Square, Canton Tower, Guangzhou Museum, Haixinsha, Dongshankou, Shamian and so on some sightseeing spots, eat you can go to find local snacks will be more delicious than eating in the restaurant。
The peanut sauce you add is called Sha Cha sauce , made by peanut, sesame, garlic, shrimp and fish sauce. It very popular in Fujian and Guangdong. People add it on boiled beef to get a more delicate flavour.

It looks good inside but seems like a giant cockroach in sky...LOL (Btw cockroach is a Guangdong Province local specialty. Big, running fast, and they can fly...Wink)
That's a commercial Ocean going cargo ship with story, that's the “East Indiaman Gotheborg” form Sweden who sailed to Canton for 3 trips (1739~1745)
3. 7:00 Line 3 also known as "the Deadly" for the crowded, especially the station of “Ti yu xi” which is homophonic as "Di yu xi" (means "west of hell").
(Btw you should order rice noddle instead...)
5. 20:20 you got it right, It's Satay. Ancient relative of Chaoshan bring it back from Malay like 4~5 centuries ago.
Very well educated couple with great manner, welcome to Guangzhou, enjoy your stay!
先赞为敬,带我云游广州❤❤
我是广州人,你对广东的了解真的很深入,感谢你的真诚
27:27 “唔该”in Cantonese is to appreciate someone who just help you out something, e.g. A waitor delivered the food on your table.
We also say it like "excuse me" when we want someone to give you a way to move forward.
I was on a business travel to guangzhou last month. Though it has been rainy for about several weeks, the weather there was still extremely hot and can’t bear it!
Welcome~❤
Welcome to China one more time. You guys seem more relaxed than last time. I hope you have a wonderful trip.
But for daily noodle you can eat whatever you want.
amazing China❤

Studying in Dublin Ireland, really miss the food back home❤
❤️
The noodle story you mentioned is only applied to the birthday longevity noodle.
Guangdong cuisine is mainly fresh. It is recommended to take the Guangzhou-Foshan subway to Shunde to try the local cuisine, which is quite famous.
WoW!!!! Welcome back homieeeeeeeeeeee~
welcome to GZ, it's definitely the capital of Cantonese cuisine, you will be busy eating!
per my understanding, Sichuan is famous of its rich flavor, and Guangdong is famous of its light flavor, but super fresh gradient

The peanut sauce you add is called Sha Cha sauce , made by peanut, sesame, garlic, shrimp and fish sauce. It very popular in Fujian and Guangdong. People add it on boiled beef to get a more delicate flavour.
