The Oak Ridge Boys are amazing. "Elvira" was released in 1981 -- over 40 years ago -- and they sound just like they did then! Richard Sterban sings bass.
I was 4 years old singing this with my dad and giggling at his “giddy-ups” ❤
I met Richard in a bar in Mobile (maybe 85'ish?) after their show that night. He had a couple of drinks and went to his hotel across the street alone. He was an absolute gentleman, very polite, and no entourage at all. Nice guy.
You were witnessing the passing of the torch here. ❤
KENNY ROGERS collabs with Home Free too!!! A MUST!!!
“Children Go Where I Send Thee! “- a great spiritual!!!
They also collab with Alabama on "Christmas in Dixie". Wonderful!
Absolutely!
Yes! The Kenny Rogers one is necessary. ❤
They also collaborated with Kenny Rogers “Children Go Where I Send Thee!” and Don McLean “American Pie” plus Lee Greenwood “God Bless the USA”
They also cover Boys To Men “End of the Road” and knock it out of the park. Might want to react to any of these. Can’t go wrong!
Yes! I know you guys love Kenny Rogers. It was a great collaboration!
Home Free really has been killing it lately just do more Home Free.
At one point Richard Sterban was the deepest voice in Country Music. To hear him with Tim Faust is a true joy! I suggest you hear the ONLY sad song the Oakridge Boys ever recorded: "I'll Be True To You".
For female Friday, Nanci Griffith! If you can tell me of a better songwriter, vocalist or musician all in one among female Country artists or any female artists, than let me know. She is the best artist you probably never heard by far. Start with "Lone Star State of Mind" or "Banks of the Pontchartrain", "Listen to the Radio", "Ford Econoline", "Love at the Five and Dime" or "From a Distance" and go from there. Even her live performances are great or even better than the recordings! Her version of Dylan's "Boots of Spanish Leather" is fantastic!!!
Both groups had a lot of fun doing this collaboration, Richard & Tim “competing” with each other to go low! Home Free did collaborations withDon McLean and Alabama. They have respect for their elders!
The Oak Ridge Boys have been around seemingly forever; a couple of great ones are “Fancy Free”, and “Y’all Come Back Saloon”.❤❤❤
I saw the Oakridge Boys in Chattanooga about 30 years ago. They sang Elvira several times. Had a blast
One of my favorite Home Free collaborations but hands down my favorite is Children Go Where I Send Thee with the one and only KENNY ROGERS AND HE AND THEY SOUND AMAZING. I know how much you love KENNY so please give yourselves and us Home Fry's the gift of listening to it. ❤❤❤
Guys, you haven’t even scratched the surface yet. I believe you are now ready to listen to Mayday. This song will completely blow your mind.
I can't believe how great Joe Bonsall still sounds; his voice hasn't changed one bit.
They did a song with Kenny Rogers ( Children go were I send thee), Don McLean ( the day the music died). And they also did God Bless the USA, with Lea Greenwood ( songs writer and original singer) with the United Armed Forces Choir. It brought tears to my eyes
THIS ONE IS AMAZINGGGGGGG (kenny).
Havent heard the lee greenwood collab.
Home free and Brooke Eden singing Delta Dawn
Since you love The Oaks, you absolutely owe it to yourselves to explore their contemporaries The Statler Brothers. Both started out as successful Southern Gospel quartets with distinctive 4 part harmonies and a great bass singer. Both crossed over into mainstream country around the same time and with great success. In fact, The Statler Brothers (2 of the 4 were brothers but not named Statler oddly enough) were so huge that they won CMA Vocal Group Of The Year 9 times over a 13 year period, unprecedented at the time. You can’t really react to country without going down this hole. Check out You Are My Sunshine, Bed Of Roses, and the most touching post Viet Nam War song ever, The Wall, about a mother who lost her son visiting the memorial in Washington DC (Amber, you may cry).
That’s my moms all time favorite band. She loves the CD they did called Holy Bible amount anything else they sing
Also other Statlers suggested songs Flowers on the Wall and Atlanta Blue
Excellent suggestion @Paladin70! Good one, I bet if Jay and Amber gave them a reaction to, they would be quite pleased with their works. 👍
I also love the Statler Brothers on songs such as "Do You Remember These?" and "Class of '57." I think Jay and Amber would enjoy those, too, although they wouldn't get a lot of the pop culture references in the first song.
@@janethernandez724
I’ve requested them quite a few times and they would definitely love them, but you know what they say (or what I just made up), “You can lead a reactor to a great song, but you can’t make them listen, lol.”
Every Home Free member will tell you the same thing. When you put people such as them into a room where they have the opportunity to interact and sing with their idols it is going to force them to kick it up a notch or two just "because." That's how a star player such as a Michael Jordan can elevate any team he plays for... no one wants to be less than their very utmost best in front of him. That's the respect these people have for those who are the true superstars amoung them. Especially a group such as the Oaks, who have been there for many decades.
Geoff Castellucci (Bass for Voice Play) wrote the arraignment of this version for these guys. 👍🏽🤩
So fun. Seeing Austin fan boying over the Oaks. Taking selfies and having them all autograph his Oak Ridge Boys shirt. You guys really need to check Home Free doing their sea shanty medley and their cover of Mayday.
I was born in 1977… some of my earliest memories are of singing songs with my dad. I loved his “giddy-ups..” and the deep silly voice he would use …
Miss you daddy… ❤
Same, i grew up on a mixture of Oakridge boys, Alabama, George Jones and Merle Haggard,.
This song always takes me back to my childhood! ❤ Put that record on, dance, and sing at the top of our lungs!
I saw your video of Home free singing When a man loves a woman, but my heart still sticks with the original, Percy Sledge. Percy Sledge was the original singer of that song, followed up by Michael Bolton remaking it. But another wonderful song from the old days is Kiss and Say Goodbye by the Manhattans. Both songs are wonderful
My favorite Oak Ridge Boys song is "Thank God for Kids", I highly recommend it. Of course, any Home Free song is fantastic.
Great tune, good video!!
This was the first song I saw Home Free do and was hooked. Tim gives Richard a run for his money on the bass parts. Shortly after seeing this I got to see Home Free perform at The Grand Ole Opry. They were incredible.
"American Made" by Oak Ridge Boys gotta be next. Great song with each member having solos
The bass singer for the Oak Ridge Boys is Richard Sterban. He was part of the back up vocals for Elvis in the 70s.
Just to let you guys know the bass singer for The Oak Ridge Boys was also in a quartet that sang backup for Elvis in live concerts right now
Legends and legends in the making. When Home Free collaborate, they leave room for their collaboration partners to shine. They never try to hog the spotlight and the music is awesome because of it. This was a fantastic re-imagining of Elvira. I think Home Free perform this song at every show and it is extraordinary. I only got to see them once live, but it was fantastic. Tim's bass at the end literally rattles your seat. Great reaction!
You haven’t heard their best songs yet…just sayin’. “How Great Thou Art” for the stunning beauty of it, “The Butts Remix” for laughter, “Blue Ain’t Your Color” for your best Mo-Town with a country twist, and “Ring of Fire” for another great display of Tim’s bass voice.
I was reminded that their mix of “Thinking Out Loud(Ed Sheeran) / Let’s Get it On (Marvin Gaye)” is something you would love too. Mix of laughter and sweetness.
Homefree is the best acapella group that I have ever heard they can do anything from country to a little bit of rock and they sound amazing no matter what there are so many sounds can you check out by I can't even name them all😊
you need to do more HOME FREE they have so many hits they are my favorite group ever
Guys, I'm so so so happy you got back to some Home Free! They can sing ANYTHING. And when they sing a cover song, they always change it up to make it their own...a nice aural surprise every time! Please do more Home Free. 😊
I saw the Oak Ridge Boys perform this live at a company anniversary party about 20yrs ago. It was awesome. Nice fellas too.❤
I saw them in 1985 at the Indiana State Fair, opening act was Eddie Rabbit, I was like 8 or 9
First time hearing this version of the classic tune! This is FIRE!!!
You should check out the mash up they did with Thinking Out Loud and Let's Get It On. It's amazing! They also do a great cover of Blue Ain't Your Color by Keith Urban.
Brothers In Arms, How Great Thou Art, Helplessly Hoping, My Church, In The Blood, are all top notch from Home Free! Also Bring Him Home, Stargazer Lilies from Austin Brown are phenomenal! Misty Mountains by Peter Hollens and Tim Foust is incredible! Geoff Castellucci with 16 Tons, House Of The Rising Sun, Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone, and Misty Mountains are are all well done by him! Please react to those, thank you!
This was a good collaboration but nothing is better than the original version of this song.
I'm partial to the original too, and it wasn't the only great song Dallas Frazier wrote. I had his original single release when I was young.
I have a fact that I want to share with you about the bass singer for The Oak Ridge Boys, his name is Richard Sterban, he sang with J D Sumner And The Stamps Quartet which sang backup vocals for Elvis Presley in the early 70’s before joining The Oak Ridge Boys in 1972!! Now how cool is THAT?
Dream on is a good oak ridge boys song and definitely bill golden sing thank God for kids. Thanks a tear jerker
Love this version too!
Rob is the bearded guy from Home Free and it's funny to see him get beard envy lol
Omg! That's a new twist to how we originally heard the song way back when WITH The Oakridge Boys. I still like the way The Oakridge Boys sang this song originally, yes, this version works too. I enjoyed this reaction! ☮️💕
This was a great cover, so was the one done by the Oak Ridge Boys. I also liked the 1966 original by Dallas Frazier.
My first car was named Elvira because of the song AND scary movie host. Try Home Free's versions of "The Butt's Remix" (if you haven't heard it), "Thinking Out Loud/Let's Get It On" (Ed Sheeran/Marvin Gaye cover) and an OMG cover of "What We Ain't Got" (Jake Owen Cover).
This is my first time hearing this version and I LOVE it!!!! 🙂🥰
Same! 😮
You should check out Home Free on a show they were in called "The Sing Off". They were in season 4. The show started with , I believe 8 or so groups. So just take a gander at those performances.
Richard Sterben is the guy from the Oak Ridge Boys with the deep voice. Just an FYI he used to sing with JD Sumner and the Stamps Quartet when they were the back up group for Elvis. Elvis called him “Rich”.
The t-shirt that Austin is wearing is a t-shirt he wore at an Oak Ridge Boys concert he went to when he was younger. How cool is that?!!
OMG, this is the first time I've ever heard this version. I like this version better, wow. Love it!!
Y'all just GOTTA hear the Oak Ridge Boys do "Bobbie Sue"! Total 80's country jam!
The arrangement for the song was originally down by Geoff Casrellucii of Voiceplay with his permission. Voiceplay is another acapella group which is more theatrical. You might want to do their video of "This is Halloween.".
Voiceplay and Home Free were on the fourth season of The Sing-Off, an acapella competition show. Home Free won the competition. The two groups became friends like Home Free and The Oak Ridge Boys later. Home Free and Voiceplay did a video together Zombies vs Hillbillies.
Home Free has had lots of new released soriginal ongs. Two are Skull and Bones and Might As Well Be Me. Skull and Bones is a sea shanty that they were commissioned to do by Ubisoft for their soon to be released game Skull and Bones. Might As Well As Be Me is a fun song that I think Amber especially would like. Home Free also has a romantic trilogy of songs called the Stargazer Lilies trilogy.
Rob was comparing his beard with Oak Ridge Boy William Lee Golden in the video. Rob actually told William that his wife wouldn't let him grow his beard longer. William told him "Boy, you have a choice to make.". Rob had grown his beard out to its present length for The Sing-Off and it has become part of his image.
As much as I love their sound you still have to remember the studio work included to get the final product.
Lovely song!! My Moms name was Elvira❤️❤️ and my nieces middle name is Elvira too🩷first time I hear this version, it was beautiful!! 🎼❤️
I totally love these guys, they are so talented! They always have so much fun! It was so cool to see them sing with The Oak Ridge Boys!! 🔥🔥 Glad you guys enjoyed it too!!
Rob and Austin singing opera is a MUST!!
This is a great collaboration between Home Free & The Oak Ridge Boys. "Elvira" was a huge hit for The Oakridge Boys in 1981. You can see the great respect these 2 groups have for each other. The Oakridge Boys are mentors to Home Free & it is like they are passing the baton to a younger version of themselves. They have performed together on the Grand Ole Opry. Adam Rupp's vocal percussion is the best in the business. He can simulate drums & any other sounds perfectly. Home Free is my favorite a cappella group. They are so talented yet very humble guys.
I was so confused when I didn't hear the "Elvira" I was expecting, lol. Never heard of Home Free before or knew there was this version. TIL!
This is amazing! I’ve never heard of Home Free! Love it so much!
So much fun! Great collaboration. The Oaks let HF do this live on tour and when they do Tim has a lot of fun with the audience and goes really low and invites the audience to sing along. Always fun! They do another song with the Oak Ridge boys from Christmas time called Star of Bethlehem. Great reaction. Home Free has lots of new songs. One you might really like that Chance wrote is called Skull and Bones. Ubisoft (game maker) approached HF to write a song for their pirate game. It’s a great pirate song! They also just toured in Australia and did a song with some Aussies called Horses. It’s wonderful. Enjoy! 😄
Thank you! Love your enthusiasm when reacting to Home Free! More please!
Boy Howdy !! Y'all hit the jackpot here as far as quartets go. We tend to forget that one of the best sounding instruments is a human voice -- male or female. Country Gospel is part of this genre. You guys may want to react to some songs from this genre -- may I suggest "Praise The Lord" , by The Imperials. Strong in 3 ways -- melody, vocals, and power.
God Bless the USA with the U.S. military choir ( I can’t remember which branch) and Lee Greenwald will bring tears to your eyes. A favorite
You should do more Home Free. They also have original songs. You are missing out on lots of great music
The bass for the Oak Ridge Boys name os Richard and a fun fact about him os before joining them he was a back up singer for the one and only ELVIS
Great Track
*fun fact- my best friend’s mother is named Elvira (72 years old) and this song is always sang at her birthday parties.
Love this!! ❤️My Moms name was Elvira too ❤️❤️ she enjoyed hearing her song 💝❤️tell your moms best friend she has a beautiful name 😊❤️🌷
Richard Sterban the bass singer. Prior to joining The Oak Ridge Boys, Sterban toured with J. D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet, who were singing backup for Elvis Presley.
You might not have known this Richard Sterban of the oak ridge boys was one of Elvis Presley back up singers back in the day.
Original tune was called "Searchin'" by Lieber & Stoller and sung by the Coasters in 1957.
Richard Sterban, the bass singer for the Oak Ridge Boys, sang backup for Elvis Presley
:) Only experts can make music look this *easy* to create. Great cover!
You need to do the "Butts Remix". You will be laughing all the way through. So funny!
If you want to hear more from "the guy with the beard" Rob. You need to listen to Home Free "End Of The Road," Amber!
We just seen Home free perform at the Indiana State Fair Sunday.
They used to play this to death on my local radio station J104 when I was a child! This updated version definitely honors the original!
Your next Home Free reaction should be their collaboration with Kenny Rogers: Children Go Where I Send Thee. An incredibly catchy song. Careful you may get an ear worm.
Rob Squad + Home Free = Awesomeness!! 😁 This video is SO much fun!! If you haven't, please react to Home Free singing "American Pie" with Don McLean. It's an absolute groove, and Don is still in great voice!
Love this! The Oak Ridge Boys are my favorite group and this arrangement is so cool!
You should hear home free 2 members singing opera
Imagine being in this room. I love the classic artists being appreciated and reminded us the old is new again.
You really need to do more home free. Plus you need to check out TIM (bass singer) and AUSTINS (skinny guy) their personal channels and music.
Since you're exploring, Home Free, I have two requests for you for the song, "One Voice Was Heard." the first version was by a boy named Billy Gilman, who sang this song when he was 11, and is still the youngest artist on the top 40 country charts. His 2000 version was mostly dealt with looking at violence through the eyes of a child. Billy recorded the song again with Home Free as an adult in 2021, same song but dealt with suicide prevention. Both the 2000 and 2021 versions have great heartfelt videos.
It’s such a stunning video and Billy’s voice just tears my heart open wide.
You guys should do a Home Free Thursday, they have so many songs/Videos that would blow your minds even more than this one!
WOW this was just fantastic. Thank you for sharing.
What a great combination. Two supremely talented groups individually. And they looked like they were having such fun!
Richard Sterban is the bass singer for Oak Ridge. He's always been one of my favorites.
He's the one that was Elvis ' backup singer? Right?
@karenkyoungsc correct. He was a member of The Stamps Quartet who sang behind Elvis.
You shudda let the outro play. That next snippet is "honey im good" & it is ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Great song!
Great Groups colab perfect.
The best part is 5:08.
Richard Sterban that sings bass for The Oak Ridge Boys also sung as a back up singer for Elvis along another bass singer in J.D Sumner.
Home Free guys are so fun, i've seen them 5 times in concert, it's been a year or two so i'm due to see them again, very entertaining.
I LOVE the Oak Ridge Boys! Have seen them in concert several times and only one of those times has been with William Lee Golden (the one with the beard). Several of the times I've seen them was in Minot, North Dakota at the Norsk Hostfest and could almost feel the risers vibrate when Richard Sterban would sing (or maybe that was just me getting the chills from his voice!! LOL)!!
I saw the Oak Ridge Boys in Branson, Missouri 20 to 30 years ago and I have tickets to see them again in September 2023. 😃😃😃😃
YAY!! it's been while since y'all done Home Free ❤❤
You were the guys who introduced me to Home Free, now my favorite band, and I'm so grateful to you and your reaction to Man of Constant Sorrow. Next time you do any HF, you might consider doing some of their more recent stuff. You would probably love Save the World and Stargazer Lilies, both great love songs written by Austin Brown (who you admired in When a Man). Btw he kept and framed the shirt that the Oaks signed and it's hanging on the wall in his house in Nashville.
Glad you revisited Home Free after awhile. I think you would like their mix with Billy Gilman "One Voice". Billy Gilman recorded the song when he was very young. He was on the Voice a few years ago and now has a new cd out. I believe you would be touched by the original video and song by Billy Gilman as well as the updated version with Home Free. Billy Gilman is an exceptional voice in his own right.
Saw the Oaks live in the early 80's. Great. They started as a gospel group and never really stopped doing gospel here and there. Amazing they're still going
This is Amazing
I just love ya'll! Everything made me smile!
You need to watch their "Butts Medley ". It is them having fun with different songs all put together into one song.
Home free - RING OF FIRE!!!!!
Richard Sterban, the bass, singer from the Oakridge boys sang with Elvis Presley in the 1970's.
They killed this❤🎉
I have loved your channel and reactions from the beginning!!! More Home Free please! "In the Blood" is one I think you would really like! Home Fry for life! 🤠
Thing about the Oaks is everyone knows Elvira and Bobby Sue for the very old school quartet style, but IMO their very best work isn't that fluff.
I recommend:
Y'all Come Back Saloon (first hit after going country full time)
I'll Be True to You (tear jerker)
Sail Away
Dream On
Leaving Louisiana in the Broad Daylight - seriously, don't miss
Fancy Free
Ozark Mountain Jubilee
I saw the Oaks with Kenny Rogers in concert at the Louisiana Superdome in the early 1980s, what a show! William Lee Golden (the baritone of the Oaks with the white beard) also performs with two of his sons.
