Say whatever you want about the last season but no one can deny that bringing Claire Foy, Olivia Colman, and Imelda Staunton together to play Queen Elizabeth one last time in different age was a genius and lovely idea for the queen's tribute. Did anyone notice the path Queen
Elizabeth walks on at the end, if you ignore the triangular pattern at the starting of the path and the box at the end of it, there are exactly 17 lines in between the middle over which she walks over. Signifying her remaining 17 year reign from the time the show ends at
(2005) to the end of her reign (2022).
After which she walks into the gate with shining light, symbolising afterlife

You overlooked another symbol: the number of pillars in the final scene, where the queen took her last walk, was 8 on each side. When multiplied by 2, it becomes 16, and adding the final door brings the total to 17, representing the years the queen reigned until her death in 2022.

The ending was so sad made me cry all over again... I miss her...seeing the pipe player up there during her funeral made me sob so hard knowing that he used to play for her every morning and to see it play a part in the movie was so heartbreaking that she picked the song... bless her heart... I caught that she was wearing white and I had a feeling that Prince Phillip was visiting her... when he stomped on the floor and said something like they are sleeping I knew he wasn't really there... In real life seeing her sitting in the chapel alone with his casket .. my heart ached for her... she lost her rock... never seen the Queen so alone you know she had to be in heavy tears..I am so proud of her that she NEVER GAVE UP.... Her parents have to be so proud of her.. And them showing Prince William totally getting how she was so strong and dutiful he finally got it... he will be come KING and make a great one... Pieces of his Mum in him makes him a wonderful young man...

Also, it is really symbolic that the show both began and ended with an episode where a wedding of an heir to the throne (in Season 1 ep 1, it was Elizabeth and Philipp's wedding, in Season 6 ep 10, it was Charles and Camilla's wedding). Also, the callbacks to the Season 1 in the scene between Elizabeth II and Prince Philipp.
Abd all the symbolism to what the future held for them all.

I loved that they brought back the other two actresses and what their thoughts would have been if they were to advised Queen Elizabeth to stay on as Queen. I so happy that she decided to stay on with the rest of her life as the Queen. I couldn't imagine her not being on the throne for the rest of her life. I'm happy for Charles and Camilla and thought their wedding as depicted well. Buy I think if the Queen announced her retirement would have been a bridge to far. I do feel Diana took up way too much of this show. Once the show switched from dramatized history to dramatized drama it lost a bit of its magic. But how could you not let Diana consume the show when she consumed the world?

    • @MLopez-fu8fd

I heartily agree with you on both accounts!!! Nonetheless, it is Terribly Frustrating!!! I really would have loved to have seen more focus on William and Kate and the aftermath of their marriage: Prince George’s and Princess Charlotte’s interactions with their “Granny” that would have been lovely to see. To waste 4 episodes on the Death of Princess Diana no matter how large she loomed was Gratuitous and unnecessary!! We all know what happened. That ALL could have been dealt with very artfully in 1 episode. Also, The Queen Mum was highly UNDER utilized in Season 6!! She was portrayed as a dottering old fool, and was anything BUT in real life. She was also a powerful ally of Charles and that was never really born out in the series!! I am exceedingly glad that they did NOT address the Monstrous farce that played with Harry & Markle. All in All I would say they handled the last few episodes well. The Queen, in her 80s wasn’t nearly so unsure of herself, or introspective as was portrayed. And had she still been alive today which was entirely possible given the longevity of her mother, I think the last episode would have been done very differently.
I’m curious what the Royal Family, particularly Prince William will think when he watches this last installment?? 😨😨

Excellent analysis. IMO most of S6 was great especially the Diana episodes and in the final 6 seeing Prince Phillip portrayed in a more positive light like reflecting on how he’d let Charles down and trying to make up for it by encouraging William to forgive him and the support of QEII when she started to feel obsolete. The reality is while there was a lull in her popularity after Diana died until Will and Harry were older, in the last decade of her life she seemed to garner Rock Star status with her neon suits and hats and willingness to participate in things like the James Bond and Paddington sketches and most importantly how she handled Markle’s accusations with the grace and calm that she maintained her entire reign. The outpouring of global grief and the billions who watched her funeral confirmed she’d touched so many folks across the globe.
Of course the Will and Kate storyline was great, the Ritz episode and the return of Claire and Olivia.
In the finale I loved QEII’s speech to Charles and Camilla. However, I didn’t like the symbolismm/ foreshadowing of the her death and the use of images of her exact casket- flowers and all was very creepy for me. We already lost her once and I dare say anyone watching the show didn’t know that. FM, as head of the Church of England and one who’d been anointed, her faith was relentless so IMO she wouldn’t have feared death as they made it seem. It left me feeling sad. I would’ve liked to have seen the end be more of a celebration or focus on all she accomplished in her reign or maybe the scene from her Coronation when she said whether my life be long or short I promise to serve as long as I’m able. Then before the credits they could have had a narrative citing when Philip died, then her death and the # of people who attended her public viewing and how many tuned into to watch her funeral. After all she had a long and amazing life, was able to keep her promise and served her people up until her final days. When all was said and done, all that was remembered were the positives and the period between her death and funeral brought the world closer than it had been in a long time and probably will ever be again.

Her Majesty was a constant my whole 67 years. I am a Canadian, during my early school years portraits of The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh were at each end of the blackboard, the Canadian flag then was the British ensign in the upper left corner against a red background, we sang God Save The Queen, as Oh Canada was not our national anthem at the time. I am very liberal politically and the respect and affection I felt for The Queen was contrary to all my political beliefs. She was a remarkable woman who dedicated her life to her subjects, of which I was proudly considered. I had felt rather rudderless since her death. This last scene provided me with some closure for which I am grateful.

Imelda Stanton recounted (on The Graham Norton Show) that the last scene - the walk alone out of St George's Chapel - was the martini (last) shot done in one take, shot just after the Queen's death during filming. It's not known now whether the producers intended this shot to be included in the original script for that finale episode. The one thing which the entire series greatly neglected as a key dimension to 'The Crown' was the Christian faith and belief of Queen Elizabeth as a Protestant Queen, although the impact of the Church of England on the Constitutional role of the monarch and in politics were depicted, mainly because these aspects were plain historical facts.

She said goodbye to the young Elizabeth, her sister, not her sister as the Queen. She probably never saw her sister as anything else other than that, only her sister.

I agree. The exit out of the cathedral doors, was to symbolise the end of her reign due to her death (and perhaps also a representation of entry into a place that was represented by her strong and personal religious faith throughout her life).
Whether it be 2 or 5 years, I believe this is not the last of the crown series (even though it ended with the death of the queen). The producers will produce a storyline that will enable them to make another series post queens death

A beautiful finale for an outstanding series - we see the queen making peace with the eternity in which our life is an episode.
The scene, of course, reflects Elizabeth's funeral in 2022. She has been under pressure to plan her memorial service and funeral since the 2000s, and she has also wondered whether it might be time to step down in favor of Charles. And then her two younger selves, the Young Queen and the Middle Queen, appear to Elizabeth several times and remind her of her great promise: “I declare before you all that my whole life, long or short, will be dedicated to your service and to the service of you will be dedicated to our great imperial family to which we all belong."
And then everything becomes very clear and simple because she has made a decision: "Here is my service, and I will hold the fort until God calls me away." Elizabeth can relax and joke again at her son's second wedding, which she was against for so long. And in the chapel she can look with amusement and serenity at the vision of her coffin with the imperial insignia of crown, sword and scepter and say goodbye to the young Lilibeth Windsor. Before she finally went into the light, she was granted 17 more years on earth, the troubles of Brexit and Covid and a series of increasingly inept prime ministers. But she also got to spend 15 more years in peace with Philip, enjoying William and Kate and a lovely generation of new Windsor children: George, Charlotte and Louis. And with Harry and Meg-zit, she probably remembered Edward VIII and her wayward Andrew and thought, "Thank God that's none of my business anymore" .
Personally, I find the "ghosts" of the young Elizabeth Windsor, the young queen and the middle queen far more believable than Diana, who is said to have haunted Charles and her mother-in-law according to the series.

5:47 and 6:14 In The final scene of the Long Walk she takes to the door, you can count the horizontal lines she crosses through the squares and there are exactly 17 lines. From 2005 to 2022! I personally think that that was intentional!

I think she walking away into the light is indeed a metaphor of her passing. However it's important to note the huge building she's in, for me it represents the Crown, and shows how little people are within an institution that old that has survived for hundreds and hundreds of years, stone after stone.

The Queen walkling towars the light beyond the doors, also reminds me of the 2016 "Victoria" (ITV), actually, waling out of the Abbey after her coronation. A picture of jauntiness, despite the weight she's carrying, the world awaiting her and vice versa. And neyond, what an outright catastrophy her family is getting themselves into in the century to come! It's up to us, with all sense of duty, the best if intentions, epic fails and breakdown will happen. Amen.

Just watched that lily brought tears to my eyes to see her majesty our great late Queen Elizabeth the second she was going to lay to rest in the Royal Chapel, Saint George’s Chapel at Windsor with her parents and her great great grandparents and her ancestors as well. All the other kings and queens are.
The great Queen knew when she saw her coffin laid out in front of her her crown and her royal orb and septa that she use on her coronation what she used to wear of state. I miss her very much so that a lot of people she was a great queen, and always will be remembered. She was a mother to our nation, and a great symbol of the British people, and all over the world.
May she rest in peace thank you your majesty for what you did for us truly be very much miss in our hearts. We love you and respect you and I know the Lord Jesus Christ will take good care of you with Philip and your parents and your dear sister, the late Royal highness , princess Margaret

I felt like the final season 6 overall was rushed compared to previous seasons. It seemed the writers just wanted get the series finished in a hurry. So much was missed or skimmed over. Saying that, I think the final scene was done well bringing Claire, Olivia and Imelda together but would have rather them not insinuate the Queens passing in the final scene. Was too sad for me.

Ibthink the show ended on Charles' Wedding to Camilla was because her denying Margaretes marriage to a fivorced man was the first big arc the show had. It shows that the Queen was, after all, able to change as a person and a monarch and it kind of redeems her after almost being the villain of the show for three seasons.

Well it was about The Crown 👑 Not the 3rd generation. The only reason so much attention was focused on Margaret was that she was number 2 and best friend, of sorts to The Queen. Harry is number 2 but 3rd generation. Relatively insignificant in the context of the Show.
Given the fact that he has entirely alienated himself from the Royal Family since 2020, I thought it very respectful of the writers of the show to minimize his place entirely.
