I have been wanting to get the "Hohner Moaner" harp sound for 40 years off and on. When I was young I wrote to Hohner to see if Paul was playing the "Trumpet Call" harp. Thanks for the insight young man, you are a great player yourself!
I have played harmonica professionally since I was 13. I am seventy years old, still playing for a living. Will seems to be able to unlock mysteries that have worried me for decades. I practice with Will's vids every day. Waiting for a chromatic lesson!
Great lesson Will ... I found a video with seven Butterfield licks in the key of A ... It's done by Paul Lassey ... He demonstrates the lick while he puts the tabs up .... Their licks for practicing ... Thanks for this over all lesson on Paul's style it simplifies everything ... Paul used to go down with a quart of Budweiser and sit on the shores of Lake Michigan and practice for hours ... Now we know what he was practicing , he was perfecting that blues scale ... Thanks great lesson ... Your dynamite on the tin sandwich !!!!
What a gift. Thank you. Back in my younger days while the world lit up with The Who, Led Zeppelin, etc. I was stuck on Howlin' Wolf, Butterfield, Muddy, Willie Dixon, Taj Mahal and others. This is great stuff. Thanks again.
These kinds of lessons are awesome! if you are starting to play you can find tons of beginners information everywhere but not so much this kind of lessons, precise, fast and with a clear structure and tabs, also considering Will Wilde style, are the best specially for advance beginners and intermedium people who wants to keep improving and not just to learn some song and licks, learn a style and get ideas to build your own. Appreciate it bro, Thanks!
Thank you!! I have been trying to “mimic” his harp solo on this song for 6 months. It was great to have u break it down with all the inside details. I now may be able to get a “little” closer to his sound... Thanks for all ur great lessons!!
Many of PB's trademark sounds, as from 6:30, combine the triplet transitions with his huge deep vibrato few can match - some attribute to his flute background. We too often associate power with amplification, and James Cotton pushed that hard, but many of Butterfield's extended tracks, both live and on the transformative album "Resurrection of Pigboy Crabshaw," are basically miked acoustic, yet the tonal qualities shine through even richer than with his familiar power setups.
I just found this gem of a lesson. Thankfully live performances have resumed. Some good things continued through the dark times. This is a prime example. Thank you Will
In effect, oral tablature for blues harp. Awesome. I've been playing blues harp for 50 years (with a 35 year time out for a career and to raise a family), and never saw playing broken down like this this. When people used to ask me, "How did you do that," I had to say, "I dunno, I just do." Great job, Will!
I am sure in your beginner days that you thought the same as me now.. It sounds like somebody rampaging on every hole on the harp.. It is amazing to me that so few holes can make the myriad of notes that this instrument can make.. Mr. Butterfield is amazing, as are you.. Love this kind of lesson, and thank you so much.. Take care, Brother....
Mr Wilde you weapon!! Thanks heaps for the lesson! You've made the mystery a reality!! Super appreciate it man!!! Merry Chrissie to you and happy new year Bro!!!
Excellent content 👏 If anyone is frustrated being able to play Butters riffs, but it sounds a bit “off”, keep in mind that he played a harp tuned to 7-limit, and not Equal temperament or modern compromised… it has a different feel with some of the reeds tuned to much differently (5D -29cents). If you’re diehard, find a good harp tech to set one up for you.
Will Wilde, besides other music by Paul Butterfield I've been working on. Your tutorial here is a GREAT adjunct to your instructions in your "Ultimate Blues Harmonica Soloist" course to check out Paul Butterfield's playing/music, for insights into using the blues scale, and improvising etc. Your insights, teaching and instructions are helping my playing skills and knowledge emensly. Thanks. 😁👍.
Thanks man, I'm just an amateur but you just nailed it. A few hints here and there and played all the notes spot on. Makes it a treat for the rest us. Also very happy that you bothered to gift us with key (C played in G), instead of assuming that we can all figure that out. Speaking only for myself, that is sometimes a difficulty.
Will what a great insight into PB style. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve listened to Everything’s Gonna Be Alright. I now have my new homework. Thanks!
@@willharmonicawilde Will, I’m considering getting one of your specially tuned harps. A couple of questions. Are they easy to play? Which key would you get first? Thanks.
Superb Will😎Great lesson on Paul Butterfield. I also like Your blue third very much. It sounds so incredible dirty, thick, real and deep going. Nobody I know plays it like You. So coool

I'm using a Seydel 1847 Silver in the key of C. Apart from the last minute of the video, where I'm using Wilde Tuning. The Fender Pro Junior is a great amp for harp, I've used one on a couple of gigs.
@@willharmonicawilde thanks. Sadly it doesn't have reverb effect. But I can bought a reverb pedal I guess. What reverb pedal should I get for myself? And last thing, do you thing fender blues junior 4 is too loud for apartment playing and better to get fender pro junior with no reverb and get a reverb pedal? Thanks man ❤❤! 🤘😜🤘
@@denisivanov2522 Lone Wolf Harp Reverb is good. Blues Junior is OK, I actually prefer the sound of the Pro for harp. Any tube amp is too loud for apartment playing really (depending on your neighbours), even the Pro needs to be pretty loud to sound good.
great lesson, as usual; now, about paul buttefield, he seems to often play the major third instead of the minor third in minor key(such as the work song where he plays the 7 draw all over the place despite the tune being minor); he plays them fast, so it;s hard to spot, but he does it; so if he can get away with it, well... what about us :)
