i'd say it more or less looks like FIAT 124 Special, although not sure if at the time VAZ/Lada was imported into France, but higher chances its a FIAT.

its very possible that it was deflected by the window or went in at a angle that looked like it went though the window and hit the driver. firearms are pretty predictable until the bullet hits something then its anybody's guess with a round that small. besides that shot was just to open the chase.
