Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at another PATREON request with Ultravox and their song "Dancing with Tears in My Eyes." Ultravox takes their drums to another level; the keyboard arrangements are sick. This is synthpop at its finest, see how my bananas fly out the window!

Live Aid was originally brought together by Midge Ure along with Bob Geldof. It was the biggest live charity concert in the world and probably will never happen again to such a scale. I spent the entire day and night glued to my TV watching it back in '85.
Midge Ure is a legend...
One of the most underrated guitarists around and played for Thin Lizzy at one point 🤘🏻🤘🏻
He did, he toured with them, he was good friends with Phil Lynott
It's a bit of a shame you didn't pay more attention to that really sad and touching video. It would have also given you a better understanding of the lyrics. They are far from simple.

I remember this title two years before the Chernobyl disaster. It reminds us of the dangers of nuclear energy. You can't control everything, I think Midge Ure and the band Ultravox understood that at that time.
I like this band very much, especially the songs "Hymn", "Vienna" and "Dancing with tears in my eyes".
And they have shown it 4 months before the premiere of Threads. The band really get the Zeitgeist
And ye daft caunts have nae seen ANY such disasters in the Western world since the song came out.

@yann-solo7703: Never put Nuclear Power in the hands of Communists. It is in fact the cleanest and greenest energy on the planet, there is no air pollution with NP if its well looked after and maintained, only 1 person has died from what happened in Japan after the Tsunami hit the Fukushima Plant, and the Japanese fixed it pretty quickly, and an untold number of people have died from and are still dying from Chernobyl, Russian soldiers dug around the reactor ffs they are still not being told about the dangers of it. NP is prone to leaks and cracks, but if it is managed well and looked after it won't cause any issues.

80's new wave 💪👌🏻
A bright, bouncy sound but a tragic message, so typical of the 80's, we all went in fear of the cold war or nuclear plants going boom. This covers how we lived at that time. Grabbing happiness where we could get it because we didn't really know what tomorrow would bring. But I loved living in the 80's, despite all that. The music was fantastic. I particularly loved Ultravox, great song, worthy of an approval but the lyrics and the video are as important as the music. Also, mentioning Live Aid, Midge Ure did all the work for bringing Live Aid to life, but Bob Geldof got all the credit, mostly because he kept swearing on the telly. Midge was the talent.

Great song from the early 80s with a great fusion of synths and guitars making it a nice hybrid. Glad you appreciated it. You should definitely react to “Reap The Wild Wind” next. And if you want to get a little deeper into Ultravox there is a song from them called “White China” which is my favorite Ultravox song. Also, “All Stood Still”, “Love’s Great Adventure”, “We Came To Dance”, and “The Voice” are great Ultravox tracks that would be good choices for reaction as well. Lots more as well which I’m sure other commenters will suggest.
Well early + mid 80's as was recorded in 83, but then was released as a single in May of 1984 where as the hit album it came off of: Lament came out in April of 1984!

Neither the title nor the group name reminded me of something. But as soon as the music started, my brain awoke and a lot of memories came back from the last time I heard this song. Thanks for the retrieved memories.

We watched this video in the 80s and somehow felt, it could happen anytime, whether a nuclear fallout (which happened with Chernobyl) or the bomb, so it did make an impact.

This was a song I randomly found on my own and instantly recognized it as a song my mom used to play. My dad and my mom both forgot about Ultravox by that time and so they were quite surprised I found it, since these guys don't have many views on youtube. I heard from them that they were big, I wonder why they don't have more views on youtube.

The 12” extended version is excellent. It has a progressive introduction unlike this version which goes straight into the chorus. This is ace though.
Sing was name checked by the German singer Adel Tawil in his awesome single, Lieder where the whole song is titles of songs he loved growing up.
Choose any track from 1984's single compilation 'The Collection'. There's not a bad track on there. In fact, they're all superb.

Boy I have not heard this song for over 30+ years. Yeah really 80s. But it was one of those who keeps itself on the side but keeps coming back at you afterwards. After 2 or 3 listenings into it, it sticks with you at least it did with me. Good stuff dereck@
It came out around 1984-85. I remember watching the video clip on the French tv program.
Yeah they were on Live Aid 1985. The greatest Live concert in my opinion. The greatests were on there. It was not just a Queen thing as many millenials believe. 🙂 it was an international concert. Ultravox was there too.
Billy Currie is the man I found Ultravox in 1990 when I used to go to the thrift stores here in Miami and I found like four of their album of the albums on vinyl and I went home and I played it and I was hooked for Life they're one of my favorite bands and the album's brand new and original copies by the way I just joined your channel I love your channel keep it up if you need any recommendations from early 80s music let me know I know everything. Midge Ure breifly was a Guitarist in rock band Thin Lizzy for a leg of their US tour, when Gary Moore left the band. Midge states that he's the worst Guitarist to play for Thin Lizzy.
This is odd.. TH-cam content-id tells us (by the end of the description) that the title of the song here is "Go Buddy Go" by "The stranglers". This does not match at all. However the "Go Buddy go" link correctly redirects to Ultravox.

I don't know all the songs of this group, only this one which was apparently a very big hit in Europe. 80's were and remain the BEST! Continue to delight us with this fabulous decade, French or International hits/songs from 80's, synthpop wave, new-wave, etc...
In France, only ranked 36th, but there were so many songs that hit the mark in 1984. I'm thinking in particular of the duo (man and woman), Peter & Sloane (A CLASSIC and EPIC in France!), the first No.1 in TOP 50 for 9 weeks in November 1984, ahead of Michael Jackson and his Thriller! lol 😉😁
