Midge Ure can still out sing most anyone out there whether its in a studio or live. Its criminal that he and Ultravox aren't more widely known outside the UK.
Midge is a musical genius , main man behind Do they know its christmas, was playing guitar along with many artists during Live Aid, as well as being in Ultravox and even Slik in the 70’s
Midge isn't just a singer/musician, he is a video producer/producer in his own right. He liked to use the latest cutting edge tech at the time, check out his video Midge Ure To Sir With Love for what he did with the original iPhone.
Midge Ure is a great singer and songwriter, from Visage to Ultravox. And he co-wrote the second highest-selling single in UK chart history (Do they know it's Christmas). Too underrated today. One of the other GREAT singer and songwriter of the 80's and 90's you should react to is Bryan Adams. He had so many iconic hits that he deserves some video reactions!
Amazing track !! Loved it in the day and is still one of my favs. Saw him live a few years ago at Henley rewind festival which is an 80s festival and he sounded awesome 😎
Midge Ure (real name James Ure) is a Scottish singer songwriter and producer who hails from Cambuslang just on the outskirts of Glasgow. Midge helped to organise the massive Live Aid gig with Bob Geldof in 1985. You may also want to check out by reaction video a song called Yellow Pearl by Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy. Midge Ure helped to write it and is even in the music video although not obvious. He's standing behind a paper wall hitting some drums.
This is one of my all-time favorite songs. I couldn’t believe you were reviewing it. It’s kind of a hidden gem. Since you liked Vienna, just for fun you should check out Midge’s performance of it with Russell Watson. You get a second amazing voice to enjoy.
Dereck!! Great choice. Love this track and Midge Ure definitely underrated as a solo artist and with Ultravox. You’ve gotta listen and watch video to Ultravox “Reap the Wild Wind” and “Dancing With Tears In My Eyes”. Epic and grand sweeping songs and videos. And if you want to really hear Ultravox (Midge Ure) at the height of 80s epic dance songs they have is a song called “White China” and based upon what you say are the sounds you love (synths! hahaha), I suggest you consider doing an audio reaction to the Razormaid Anniversary Vinyl Remix (Remastered) version. The video version is excellent as well, but, doesn’t have as many audio treats for the ears as the Razormaid version. Either way, my personal favorite of Ultravox.
Aaaahhhhhhh !! so glad you did this Dereck ! firstly Happy New Year ! and Midge is amazing ! i went to a 80's concert two summers ago with my mate and saw Andy bell,(erasure ) Tom Bailey ( Thompson twins,) Kim appleby ( Mel & Kim) and Marc Almond ( Soft cell ) Nick Kershaw etc etc and Midge Ure & Marc Almond were FANTASTIC ! in Fact Midge was even better live than on that video !!
I'm so glad you're exploring Ultravox and Midge Ure, they were big favorites of mine. I'd suggest checking out the 12" version of this song, so much more dynamic. Dereck, love your reactions!
Check out the tune "One Small Day" is a song dedicated to those suffering and is an unofficial song to those going through the hard times with depression & anxiety. Visions of Blue & Lament are right up there also.
Great reaction. Midge is such a great artist...Number 1 with this, Band Aid and boy band Slik! Also so many fantastic hits with Ultravox, Visage and Phil Lynott...and yes he was a member of Thin Lizzy even as a favour to Phil for about 6 months! You must check out the Ultravox hits...'Hymn', 'Visions in blue' and 'All stood still' please!
I'm going to second the plug for Dancing with Tears in My Eyes by Ultravox. Great soaring vocals on that one too, and a very sad story. Or, check out Midge Ure's Sister and Brother, which is a duet with Kate Bush!
I do love you're spot on analyisis. As as a Scotsman I am Immensely proud of Midge Ure. Live Aid and "Do they know it's Christmas?" Was written by Midge Ure. He is a genius!
Love, love, LOVE Midge Ure! Been a fan of (and crushing on 😊) him for nearly 40 years. And this song is one of my favorites. Of his or anyone's. ❤️ Saw him live in 2015, just him and his guitar, and he's still got The Voice.
My father loved this song though he couldn't understand a single word.. Midge has such a unique voice. But I think that the songs of 1985 aren't hidden gems but truly great all-time classics..
great track! and great reaction, humble man, talented as. so much more to midge ure than most people even know. loved this. (you should check out the orchestrated tracks, just another level in another direction)
Midge is incredible his voice is awesome. Grew up back in Scotland in the 80s and I got to suggest Big country phenomenal 80s band many many great songs but check out in a big country by big country you will love it
For a different 80s sound from Ultravox listen to The Thin Wall and Mr X (or better still Herr X the German version) heavier synth sounds from Ultravox, and another 80's Classic Move Up by Visage
Probably one of the most underrated singers there is and Ultravox were one of the most underrated bands of the 80's. Live Aid Queen understandably are remembered for their set but Midge Ure was up there on a par, if not better, vocally with the Ultravox set. Check out Ultravox, "Vienna", Live Aid to see how good his vocal range is, doing Vienna at Live Aid. Another shout for Ultravox's "Dancing With Tears in my Eyes" to show vocal range and also their fabulous Synth Rock Hit "Hymn".
You should try further back into the career of Midge Ure. He was the lead singer of a band called 'Slik' in the 70s. Known for their UK Number 1 single, 'Forever And Ever' in 1976 when i was 8 years old.
What a sonnnng....this song takes flight in the chorus and he's SCOTTISH YAYYYYYYY.🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴
I'm a big fan of his 'Answers to Nothing' album with "Answers to Nothing" & "Dear God" as the prime singles. Midge is cool, AF. I have a meet and greet in November. Woohoo!
Glad you like the synths Dereck, I would recommend 'What is love?' by Howard Jones which is a fabulous 80s synth anthem plus anything by Howard Jones!!
A lot of that synth sound was very wide open, majestic sounding. It made the world seem huge. FYI....most artists back then had zero or next to nothing $ to commit to videos....video was just another marketing tool meant for peeps that turned off the radio and got stuck on cable TV. For a very obscure request how about a one-hit wonder from the eighties from ' The Flying Pickets '.... called " Only You". It was an acapella version of the hit from Yazoo
Try " One small day", Hymn and "We came to dance" by Ultravox. Other great 80s synth songs are"Great Southern Land" by Icehouse and "Only time will tell" by Asia. BTW I like your passion for 80s music.
I'll tell you what folks, if someone who was an Ultravox fab heard this on the radio the first time, you could easily mistake it for Ultravox. You hear in Ultravox songs midges input, similarity
Such a classic song + music video, Off of his hit album: The Gift! You never mentioned though that it was a hit aoaer from the UK in other countries like: Ireland, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, + Austria, Please do a video reaction for Swedish band: Trance-Your Gonna Get It Was a hit single in their native Sweden, And also in Holland, Denmark, Switzerland, Norway, Finland, + Austria, Off their hit album: Dancing in the Shadows
Getting close to the awesome Level 42 with this one. Mark King (bass player for Level 42 and up there as one of the best) played on this track. In my eyes this band IS the 80s. Synths and bass. Give something about you a go, you'll love it. Keep up with the great content.
This may almost be crazy, but if you love Midge's voice and dramatic music, combining the epic event that was Live Aid, a must recommendation would be "All In One Day" by Ultravox. Being I was blessed to be at Wembley on that day, whenever I hear "All In One Day, " I cry. Give it a try.
Midge Ure still makes music and occasionally releases new stuff ever now and then. I think this from his last album, this song is quite good: th-cam.com/video/RTpqupcjaHY/w-d-xo.html
Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems you never reacted to Tears For Fears "Shout", because this one surely represents the musical spectrum of the 80's... I'm pretty sure it would blow your mind and ears...
Hey, especially for you grammar buffs out there: we all know this is terribly bad English! It should be "If I Were" not "If I Was" using the subjunctive clause. I know we all feel better for knowing this lol. Still a brilliant song.
Midge Ure can still out sing most anyone out there whether its in a studio or live. Its criminal that he and Ultravox aren't more widely known outside the UK.
He never got the recognition he deserved for live aid and band aid! Love this song and loved your reaction xx
all attention and credits went only on Bob Geldof for Live Aid..
This does my old heart so much good seeing a young person appreciating Midge. ❤️
Hymn, Sleepwalk, Dancing with Tears in my Eyes, The Voice, Thin Wall ....all Ultravox classics that should be heard :)
Thin Lizzy too
And One Small Day, and All Stood Still...
Two more great Ultravox songs are "White China" and "A Friend I Call Desire." People should also check out the 5 min. plus version of "If I Was."
passing strangers, vienna, fade to grey ... midge ure is an absolute mastermind
Midge is a musical genius , main man behind Do they know its christmas, was playing guitar along with many artists during Live Aid, as well as being in Ultravox and even Slik in the 70’s
One of those classic pop songs that you never get tired of hearing.
It just never gets old. Still sounds as good as it did when first released.
Brilliant song love this song. 👌 Never get tired listen to this song.
I saw him this month playing song from ultravox and his solo career and he’s still got it! He’s also an incredible guitar player!
Me too, still a class act!
You are the only TH-camr whose reaction I have watched several times. Damn, you have damn good taste in music
Ultravox - The Voice, another example of his voice soaring.
‘Soaring’ is the best term. I feel the soar also with Spandau Ballet-such a richness that you don’t hear anymore.
@@kristieescobar8822 Spandau Ballet had crap songs.
Midge isn't just a singer/musician, he is a video producer/producer in his own right. He liked to use the latest cutting edge tech at the time, check out his video Midge Ure To Sir With Love for what he did with the original iPhone.
Midge’s guitar playing in the climatic bit in Dancing with tears in my eyes, uh it’s amazing. 😊
Oh man, I haven't heard this song in at least 30 years. Thank you for the earworm :)
80's Music is the best!
If I was... great song from the 80s era ! Love it, too ! Dancing with tears in my eyes is also fantastic !
Great 80s sound this was, and Midge Ure was a great vocalist
Amazing track !! Loved it in the day and is still one of my favs. Saw him live a few years ago at Henley rewind festival which is an 80s festival and he sounded awesome 😎

Excellent potted history 😊
Omg i LOVE your reaction to all these 80s hits. So glad i found this channel. 😍😍
"The Voice" is an absolute must!
This is one of my all-time favorite songs. I couldn’t believe you were reviewing it. It’s kind of a hidden gem.

One of the best 80’s song by midge Ure love this song❤️❤️👌
One of my favourites of the 80’s...try his follow up ‘that certain smile’ excellent too.
Great reaction Dereck. Used to love this song. Another Ultravox track worth checking out is Hymn
This is one of my favourite reactions from you Dereck. So authentic.
Please remember auto tune wasn’t invented until the mid 90’s. So the bands prior to that need more credit for their voices.
I'm so glad you're exploring Ultravox and Midge Ure, they were big favorites of mine. I'd suggest checking out the 12" version of this song, so much more dynamic. Dereck, love your reactions!
The man is a synth master also an incredible voice. No cheese only pure talant...
Love this song and somehow had a crush on Midge Ure just because of this video lol!!
Check out the tune "One Small Day" is a song dedicated to those suffering and is an unofficial song to those going through the hard times with depression & anxiety.
Visions of Blue & Lament are right up there also.
Too right 👍🏻
Must admit, there is a bit of an effect on his vocals, but after seeing him many many times he can sing and the live performances are fantastic
Great reaction. Midge is such a great artist...Number 1 with this, Band Aid and boy band Slik! Give "One Small Day" a listen ...thats a powerhouse song from U.V
Love, love, LOVE Midge Ure! Been a fan of (and crushing on 😊) him for nearly 40 years.
And this song is one of my favorites. Of his or anyone's. ❤️
Saw him live in 2015, just him and his guitar, and he's still got The Voice.
I bought the 12” version to this back then, it’s awesome.
My father loved this song though he couldn't understand a single word.. Midge has such a unique voice. But I think that the songs of 1985 aren't hidden gems but truly great all-time classics..
The video's entropy collapse of the pins at the end was pure art..
great track! and great reaction, humble man, talented as. so much more to midge ure than most people even know. loved this. (you should check out the orchestrated tracks, just another level in another direction)
your face classic :) love the song midge ure is amazing great video :) great voice :)
I like him
Heard "Dancing with tears in my eyes"?
Yesssssssss!
OH GOD YES!!!!!
For more Scottish 80's-ness, got to be the classic Somewhere in my Heart by Aztec Camera.
And Big Country
Sleepwalk. Ultravox. !!!
Got Midge-rolled with this one.
in the 80 a lot of music was made for dance and move your body . In this decade the most used instruments were the guitar, the synthe and the sax.
What a classy choice. Good taste.
Midge is incredible his voice is awesome. Grew up back in Scotland in the 80s and I got to suggest Big country phenomenal 80s band many many great songs but check out in a big country by big country you will love it
For a different 80s sound from Ultravox listen to The Thin Wall and Mr X (or better still Herr X the German version) heavier synth sounds from Ultravox, and another 80's Classic Move Up by Visage
i love 80s
I adore midge ure this is another all time favorite of mine get his and all ultavox and Visage as his solo stuff
Great Midge reaction, Gracias! Can I suggest "Dancing With Tears in My Eyes"! xx

Mark King played bass on this track.
Dereck please watch Ultravox Vienna live at LIVE AID in 1985. I never knew he had such an amazing voice and live it's astonishing!!

I like your appreciation of Midge Ure and Ultravox. 😊
Call of the wild is epic too ❤
I'm a big fan of his 'Answers to Nothing' album with "Answers to Nothing" & "Dear God" as the prime singles. Midge is cool, AF. I have a meet and greet in November. Woohoo!
Some of the images reminded me, after all these years, of Han Solo being frozen in carbonite. I never thought of it before.
Glad you like the synths Dereck, I would recommend 'What is love?' by Howard Jones which is a fabulous 80s synth anthem plus anything by Howard Jones!!
Another great HJ song from the same year was "Like to get to know you well". Very uplifting song.
Have you tried Midge's 'Call of the Wild'; you will enjoy that.
you'll love "dancing with tears in my eyes" and "one small day"
A lot of that synth sound was very wide open, majestic sounding. It made the world seem huge. Please react to Ultravox- Dancing With Tears In My Eyes ,
Thank you!
I'm 71.. love his coat.. must be an age thing 😆
Such a classic song + music video, Off of his hit album: The Gift!

The main man behind Band Aid
Getting close to the awesome Level 42 with this one. Mark King (bass player for Level 42 and up there as one of the best) played on this track. In my eyes this band IS the 80s. Synths and bass. Give something about you a go, you'll love it. Keep up with the great content.
A reviewer who makes sense, that's a first
You must react to Sunglasses at night from Corey Hart... another synth heaven
I think this from his last album, this song is quite good:
th-cam.com/video/RTpqupcjaHY/w-d-xo.html
Ultravox Visions in Blue,China Crisis Christian,or Spandau Ballet Instinction.
Do yourself a massive favour and watch his cover version of “No regrets” …, simply superb..👍👍
I think you would like the band, The Christians, particularly their song Forgotten Town.
Good recommendation! One of my favourite 80s songs...
Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems you never reacted to Tears For Fears "Shout", because this one surely represents the musical spectrum of the 80's... I'm pretty sure it would blow your mind and ears...
Ultravox were amazing also.. try The Voice
Please check out " I remember (death in the afternoon) from Ultravox.
❤
Earlier stuff with Ultravox like The Voice and The Thin Wall are edgier.
Try to react in between day’s by The Cure!!
If you react to this song, naturally you have to react to Broken Wings and Kyrie which are equally great 80s songs with similar vibes ...
And Boys of Summer
When u do Duran Duran the 80s popkings??
You need to go "Dear God" next, "Cold Cold Heart" and "Breathe"... not to forget "No Regrets" or even the more modern "Glorious" with Rusty Egan
Hey, especially for you grammar buffs out there: we all know this is terribly bad English! It should be "If I Were" not "If I Was" using the subjunctive clause. I know we all feel better for knowing this lol. Still a brilliant song.
Dude please please please react to become.. this man has so much talent..give it a chance.
