Y'know this is a fantastic "how-to" video! Kudos to you for your ability, talentwise, toolwise, and financially, to be able to pull this off, and create an iconic masterpiece of an instrument that immediately went down into musical history!! I'm a fmr. prof. musician myself, played rhythm guitar, some lead, and bass in many cover bands in Tucson AZ, till my hearing failed drastically! Never owned one of these cool, 3/4scale little guitars, owned 3 Rick 12-strings, a mapleglo 360/12, a fireglo 360/12 (my original guitar), and a 1988 fireglo 360/12V64, which i sold, wasn't what it was cranked to be..had problems, so sold it to a collector. All I own are my orig. '67 fireglo 360/12, and a 1975 fireglo Rick 4001 bass, hanging on to all. Usually have played Gibson ES335, Fender Strats, Ibanez Les Paul copy, and K'mazoo-mfd. Epiphone flattop acoustics, a Texan and an El Dorado. I'm Sam Burkes, from NY, and from Tucson Az, now live in Philadelphia Miss. Am 74 yrs old, almost deaf..but I persevere!!

Thanks so much for your comment, Sam. I hope you are well. I would very much like to see your Rickenbacker instruments that you have today. They must be wonderful. I use a lot of Fender guitars too, I have a Jazzmaster, a Strat and a Tele.
Wasn't a teen, but old enough to be aware of them from the moment they leapt onto the UK & commonwealth influenced world stage (excluding the USA) and listen to them from the very start with the release of "Love Me Do" in Oct 1962. 1963 and the frenzy that became Beatlemania with hit after hit during that year! Early post fame Beatles will forever remain the best, triggering a paradigm musical & social shift.
about 5 months ago my dad and i finished building a 325 semi hollow rick made from all black wood with a maple fretboard in a natural finish it's such a nice guitar our next project is a gretsch country gentleman
I like it. Nicely done. It is amazing how many of us are building our own Rickenbacker guitars. I have tried reaching out to them , as have many others about their prices as well as how overpriced they are and how badly quality control is anymore. But they keep on ignoring us. I even mentioned that I was disabled and again they have been very rude about it.
Great build! I own a 2020, 6-string 620 Ric, Jet Glow and just love picking it up. Ric's are amazing and smaller than what I thought before buying one. Are you playing/singing in this video? Cheers Roger

Would the RIC be classified as a 320 because it has a Bigsby b5 tremolo? Any way nice build

The 325 has a tremelo tailpiece (accent, kaufmann, bigsby), and the 320 has a stop tailpiece (trapeze or "R"). The "5" refers to the tremelo model of any series. Thanks for the comment. ;)
That's correct any or most Rickenbackers ending in the number 5 has a vibrato except the 425 which is a rare Rickenbacker. I own 2 Rickenbackers 350 not the v63 model and the 360/12v64.

Hi Carlos...Well today the guitar sits in my bedroom and doesn't get played much...because I actually bought a real one last year...Now I can see a couple of mistakes I made in my replica...which disappoints me about my work...I still have all the wood and hardware to make another one and get it more correct now I have a real one to copy...I loved your video and made me so happy someone got some inspiration from my work...Great job Carlos!!!

Where did you get the bridge? not the Bigsby but the bridge piece that's above it, I've been looking for a good bridge for the Rick kit I plan on building
I’m trying to build a custom Ric and I’m absolutely struggling with the headstock measurements. Can you let me know how wide and long the headstock is. I know the nut width is just over 1 1/2”. Please and thank you.
Looks like you created a hybrid of the 58 and 64.... pick ups are too close together and the fret board color is too dark? Otherwise nice job.

I did just that, a hybrid model between the 325c58 and the 325c64 with some modifications. The fretboard I decided to use the Brazilian wood rosewood without the glossy varnish that the Rickenbacker uses on their guitars, so it is darker than bubinga wood with glossy varnish. The pickups and electrical circuit are those of 325c64. They really got more together than the traditional guitar but I've already kept the distance these days.
Most replicas or re-issues are hybrids anyway...Even the re-issue 325c58 that Rickenbacker made had a rosewood fretboard and not Paduak like the original one did so you could call that a hybrid...Depends what you might call a hybrid...Most guitar builders copy an original with their own twist added to it...Looking at photos of Johns original 325c58 now you see issues with it like the bridge being off centre and the Bigsby being fitted crooked by him and his mate on Hessys (music shop) counter...So bad that the bottom E string doesn't even meet the neck...and then there's the 2 pots being added crooked at a later date just before John bought the guitar...I say 'bought'...I don't think he paid for all of it!...Most copies of Johns 325c58 have a symmetrical heel at the neck base rear which is not consistent with Johns original which was cut at an angle...No matter how much research you do on the original V81 someone will always spot or know something that you didn't know that you missed in your build...but we get better with the knowledge
Probably plays better than a factory made Ric from their plant. Anyone with this kind of skill can make a Rickenbacker and not have to shell out 3000$ for this model. I would love if somebody would build me a Rickenbacker 425. Fire glo. But seriously, it looks good and I would love to hear it.

This song is a cover that the Beatles played at the beginning of the band, at the time of Hamburg. The original artist is Arthur Alexander and the name of the song is Where are you been (All My Life). This version that I put on the video is a version of a Beatles cover band where the boy's voice looks a lot like John's voice.

Thanks for your comment, Martin. I'm glad! In the body of the guitar I used Freijó, one of the best Brazilian woods for instruments, density very close to the North American Mapple. On neck, I used another Brazilian wood called Pau-Marfim, which sounds like Mapple too. On the fretboard scale I used Jacarandá (also known as Brazilian Rosewood).

For the pickups, search for Creamery Pickups from Manchester, UK. The pots have 330K, like the original Rickenbacker 325. I advise taking your guitar to a good luthier who understands vintage guitars and taking the map of the original electrical circuit available on the official Rickenbacker website.

It took a year for the guitar to be ready. Had the work of 3 different luthiers, one took care of the construction and the woods. The second was a painting specialist and the third a guitar electrical specialist. Apart from the time it took to get the parts I had to import, like the original Rickenbacker Toaster pickups and the Bigsby bridge.

On neck, I used another Brazilian wood called Pau-Marfim, which sounds like Mapple too. On the fretboard scale I used Jacarandá (also known as Brazilian Rosewood).

For the pickups, search for Creamery Pickups from Manchester, UK. The pots have 330K, like the original Rickenbacker 325. I advise taking your guitar to a good luthier who understands vintage guitars and taking the map of the original electrical circuit available on the official Rickenbacker website.

This is really cool to see! If you don’t mind me asking… how long did it take to make this and how much did it cost?
It took a year for the guitar to be ready. Had the work of 3 different luthiers, one took care of the construction and the woods. The second was a painting specialist and the third a guitar electrical specialist. Apart from the time it took to get the parts I had to import, like the original Rickenbacker Toaster pickups and the Bigsby bridge.
