Imagine being a 500, and your opponent is taking a really long time to move so you think you've got them but in reality, you're playing Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura, and he's taking so long because he's entertaining his Twitch chat.

Well when you play 500s, they just straight up hang a piece about every 5th move, if not sooner. Sometimes it's their kings they hang. Going up the rating ladder is basically how often you blunder and how hard your blunders are to spot and punish.

@@jopfeber7147 I also thought that, but the FIDE handbook says 2. I found this explanation online
"Contrary to popular belief, you only need two or more norms to achieve the GM title, but these norms must be achieved over the course of at least 27 games."
So if you got 2 norms from regular 9-round tournaments, you'd have the required norms, but you'd only have played 18 games to get them, so you'd still need to get a third norm at another 9-round tournament to have the required game count, and that's why people talk about needing 3 norms.
You could technically get a norm from a 13-round tournament and a norm from a 14-round tournament and become a GM with 2 norms, but it's rare
