C-17 Salmon Fly | Big Dry Fly For the Biggest Hatch! | Fly Tying Tutorial

- In this fly tying tutorial Cheech ties the C17 Salmon Fly!
The Salmonfly hatch has to be my favorite hatch in the whole world, especially when the fish are keying on them and eating with reckless abandon. We wanted a fly that would still work after the fish start to get a little bit wise to most of the patterns on the river. This one has just enough realism to trick fish well into the hatch, and it's buoyant enough to float moderate sized droppers. Stay tuned for more patterns in this styling because you can tie all of the species of stones in this same format, just adjust size and color.

Brigham’s laugh makes the video!
These flies are the most beautiful and colorful flies. I love Salmon Fly and Steelhead flies are the coolest! Thanks for the tutorial
Ill be in this week to pickup materials for this fly....And to hear Brig's spray tan story😂
The C17 is actually pretty graceful for a heavy. They are beautiful to watch when they do a low flyby. Ddid you know they can back up and turn around on a narrow runway. They drop their buckets (like a jet boat) so their thrust will put them in reverse. My son flys these for the AF. Can’t wait to tell him there’s a fly named after his aircraft.
Leaving the nub at the back instead of tying in and folding felt like sacrilege initially until i realized huh, that taper is nice
Cheechs Globemaster lll coming to a river near you , for a not so graceful landing . Thanks for sharing
This thing is crazy! I’m definitely going to need to stop by your guys’s store and pick up some materials to tie some of these
Hi Cheech! Great buggy pattern! The only change I would make is some small eyes and maybe some black yarn between the wings or some black marker on the inside of the wing yarn to separate them and give the illusion of two wings. Can I get the full recipe please? Thanks Cheech!
Thank goodness Tim Flagler ties flies in under 5 minutes. 🤣 We do need some time to fish.
It’s not too late to delete this comment pard.
Tie this under 5 minutes I’d be really impressed
Ok, 10 minutes.
@@edhughes1891 now do it while explaining the fly with bright light shining in your dome with brig breathing down your knee
Well, I found the jokester’s nerve…seems I irritated it. 😎
We want more of Brigham!!!!
We know. But I know what’s best for all of you. Trust me on this one.
Will this work for trout? I fly fish in Colorado and love tying new flies
Yeah, The C17 is definitely a giant flying bird.
Is an 8 wt rod too much or just right for bass?! Looking to start on the lower Snake River; I believe both large and small mouth!
Thanks gang!!
Just right. 6-8 are great. So great it rhymes with
As a C-17 pilot I feel offended by that description
I couldn't agree more...she's big but graceful and nimble. Clumsy is a poor descriptor! Awesome fly though and any love for the Moose is appreciated.
