- MotoMan rents a @tesla Cybertruck on @turo and learns a valuable lesson: Why the Tesla Cybertruck is important. As if telling a story to old friend and @TFLtruck Senior Editor, Nathan Adlen, MotoMan shares the entire Cybertruck experience and explains the hits and misses of the Tesla Cybertruck as well as why it represents a dysopian future . . .

I love the fact that the Cybertruck exists for the simple reason that we have more choices. And this is a good thing. You guys are awesome! Thanks Motoman!
Only Motoman can get me to watch another video about the Cybertruck
Me too
Ok Moto Man this is the 2nd video you’ve done about the Cyber truck, WITHOUT THE TRUCK!!!!!!!! When are you going to get in one?
Omg. This guy complained about the cyber truck for 35 minutes and then said bottom line I’m impressed… Do you like it or not, bro?
I think both of you are right, it started out as a joke, but it also started out because Musk is a huge gamer and he knew that gaming was going mainstream and that a truck that looks like it's from a videogame would sell well.
Strong theory. In the book, Walter Isaacson did share details of Elon's affinity for gaming during high stress situations.
The inconsistency in driving experience between owners is in keeping with the inconsistency in build quality.
It always reminds me of the cars in Timecop, which were always terrible.
I live outside of the city in a busy town. I have seen cybertrucks before. When one slowly rolled through the busy street. Everything went quiet as everyone watched it glide through. The effect is real and surreal.
The dollar bill wasn't Easy Money, it was Trading Places
Thanks. My mistake
@@NathanDAdlen No worries. Great listening to your points. 🍻
Brother you're wrong. If you installed motors and wheels on a refrigerator and started driving them down the street people would stare and video tape you. That's not a measure of what's next in automotive design it's just what we do when we see a dumpster fire up close and personal driving down the street
I've had my cybertruck for 4 months now and I'd best describe its defining characteristic is as a reality bender. A day out doing the same things as I do with my model 3 is like night and day in terms of how it feels and how people around you react to it. The fact that it's a truck is secondary in terms of how it differentiates itself from other vehicles.
It almost feels like being a celebrity-a hero to most but a villain to some.
I can't sit through TFL anymore, but always liked Nate. Nate on Motoman's turf is excellent. I appreciate this story and format. 👍
I enjoyed the format of this episode! Thank you. Please bring more Cybertruck stories!
Thanks for the feedback . . . . This is part of our 'Member's Only' series where I talk to folks in the car world about key issues. Next up is a 'mini series' of sorts - a SWOT analysis of each of the Detroit three . . . GM kicks it off this Saturday. Perfect example of what not to do.
What? Sharp exposed edges on a new vehicle is bad ?
Remember that episode of The Simpson's where Homer got to design a car? That's what the cyberlemon is.
would like to hear more about the Turo guy, sounds interesting...
Fascinating story with him . . . In today's day and age, truly impressed to see someone his age that not only wants to work, but takes pride in his work.
good design in terms of "showing it off", bad production, inovative ethernet bus and steering input. i just hope that they bring the 48v and steer by wire to their other vehicles
Tesla has the technology, but seem shit at putting it all together well.
The motors are the same size, it's the gearbox that is bigger, 15:1 instead of 7.5:1
The motors are more powerful because they use hairpin stators to get more copper in the same area.
He says the ride quality is bad but I’ve heard a lot of people say they loved the ride quality. Could it be his CT was defective? Rear camera already had issues
I liked the ride too
21:37 a practical joke that took them twice as long to get out, costed billions to develop, and is now something they have to service into the future for the sake of their companies reputation? Expensive joke… would be more concerning
“And you’re going to the hood.” MotoMan
If you look at the crime rate, all of the South Bay including George's neighborhood, is the hood.
He said he had to go through the hood !!! 😂😂😂 like he is putting his life in danger for this truck ! Too funny !
As long as I'm still the driver in a vehicle, tactile buttons and a UI that ensures driver focus is an absolute must! Anyone who wants smartphone tech over proper driver functions doesn't understand the importance of being a good driver, and I would not want to be sharing the road with them. Full stop.
Agree 100%
It is a novelty. I heard so many negative aspects about this vehicle in this video yet MotoMan likes it so much... If a dystopian future is OUR future then we have many other bigger things to worry about than buying and driving this monstrosity. I’ll bet driving thru downtown LA with the fires burning in this truck looked and felt cool but the other 99% of America isn’t that way. Maybe if the Kardashians want a cool looking pickup truck they will buy this so Kim K. can do a swimsuit photo shoot with it but the rest of America won’t buy it because of its towing limitation and strange rear bed design limiting what you can haul in it.
I’m going to hate to see what the other car looks like when the Tesla is involved in a crash.
I really did enjoy this video. Thanks guys.
Your very welcome!
So many cars look boring and the same. I respect that the Cyber Truck is different.
To adjust mirrors or steering wheel use voice commands. “Adjust left mirrors”, “Adjust right mirrors” and “Adjust steering wheel”
great talk
please no, we don't need cars to get any uglier than they already are
You guys are pretty funny. I think he drove a defective truck or didn't put it in a better mode. Interesting perspectives from 2 car guys. Big fan of the truck but I'd do 18" tires instead of the rover tires.
I've driven the tesla semi. You should see that turn when bobtail
I had a deposit on the Cybertruck. It took so long, I canceled my order. I am sticking with gasoline powered vehicles for now.
I believe the rear axel steering sweep was initially 3 degrees but would eventually be increased to 11 degrees.
28:44 in 2006 we heard this guy say „going back from an iPhone to a Nokia - everything about the Nokia feels so much better, I love the buttons…“ 🙈
Three degree rear wheel steer, which is software limited right now. It does have the mechanical ability to do 10°, but that has not been unlocked for anyone yet.
Everybody talks about the suppleness of the ride quality in the cyber truck, in fact they say it's the best that Tesla has ever, you're the first person to say otherwise. I think its the one that you drove that has a problem.
The back seat does come up and there is either storage or a flat floor.
The rear seat folds up for storage.
Entertaining but Motoman you still are living in the 1960s, someone needs to give you a typewriter to review. Motoman is going through the same struggle any aging old man is going through, I don't get it, I don't understand it, I don't want it, get off my lawn moment. Please get a Tesla tester or rent one and try it for a few days or months. You got no clue what you are talking about. If reviewing a 1996 911 is your cup of tea then fine stick with it, why comment or review something completely out of your realm of understanding? Giving a horseman a F1 race car, what would you expect the horseman say? This is entertaining, but it's utter non-sense. Motoman probably still writes letters and uses checkbook at Walmart.
I think EV packaging advantages is already influencing ICE manufacturers. The new turbo 4 cylinder engine from toyota is a case in point. Its designed to have a much smaller footprint and height to allow for better vehicle packaging
Remind me to hire Walter Issacson to write the 3rd version of my fictional biography so that I can really cement my cult of personality. Seems like a hell of a cheat code.
Oh look! A pickup truck for someone who doesn’t use a pickup truck for things like a job.
So do you buy spare parts for the Cybertruck at Legoland?
Legoland has class.
Motorman, You have a knowledgeable guest with you. However, it is VERY annoying that you interrupted him very frequently and you dominated the discussion for more than three quarters of the time….. unprofessional!!!!! as you tried to totally go with your own opinion and gave little time for Nathan. Come ON!!!!!
Cybertruck is like the Pontiac Aztek of 2024, people either love it hate it. I drive a pickup, I like the exterior, and I wish the interior was more rugged, add tougher seat and door panels materials, and a larger steering wheel. Like any Tesla the Cybertruck is going to improve with time. I agree with Nathan about the bed, the shape isn’t as useful.
Nathan!
Trading Places, heh? Funny thought, for sure, but not quite how today's publicly traded companies work. Maybe John DeLorean could have pulled it off, but Elon ain't quite in that position. Funny to think about, tho.
Just imagine George, you were hit by this thing. It could have ended really bad. There have been many injuries with the sharp edged doors etc. already. Will it ever come to Europe like this? Unlikely. I think it's a lifestyle vehicle, and should only be seen as such.
It would have been a VERY different outcome!
If you guys can't figure out how to adjust the Cybertruck suspension, do not attempt to fly that plane behind you, you will die😂
The next big seller will be a hydrofoil vehicle that doesn't have wheels it floats on a cushion of air. I already put my order in with NASA 😛
Cybertruck will expand the pie rather than just taking a bigger slice when it comes to the truck market. The hate is from people who cant currently afford them or are poisoned with years of truck compromises that they overlook when assessing the cybertruck. Noone can cover all the innovation in this vehicle over a day. Nathan's hate for cybertruck is on the scale of TDS. Does the truck have some quirks, yes but its not worth a meltdown. The advantages far outweigh the disadvantages.
It is. He also hates Elon for some reason. Brainwashed
Can afford it. Still hate it.
Good comment. I think time will tell..
My only disappointment is that I thought I was going be a little bigger, I’m a giant lol. Also, no adding a video rear view mirror vs adding to the main screen.
@TRexHeliPilot. I agree with you because it doesn’t do anything that I need a truck to do. It’s a white elephant.
The BMW i3 failed because it was ugly ... I mean Pontiac Aztek ugly ... straight up.
There is a reason "Function follows Form" is not a design mantra, except in the bro-culture that developed this eye soar of a vehicle. I love my Model Y, but this thing is the definition of ridiculous, in all the worst ways.
On the right quality issue there’s so many settings. I bet you he had it way too firm for what he was looking for.
It's 9° of steering in the rear
Thanks!
Nathan is the only fool who moved to Southern California in the last 10 years.
Be sure to let us know what is going on in your life so we complete strangers can pass judgement on your decisions. Why do you care what Nathan is doing? How is that affecting your life? I really wish people would stop going out of their way to be miserable human beings.
He will fit right in with the fellow zombie liberals who hate Elon
@@myaccount__7269 People with morals are the ones that dislike Elon. Since the GOP has become the party of criminality, that means the rest of us have to take on the job of caring about what's right and what's wrong. It's unfortunate that Tesla has to get caught up in this. They are, for the most part, great cars and people who buy them shouldn't be made to feel like they are driving a proxy red MAGA hat.
@@treads2595Go pedal your hatred elsewhere. Elon Musk has done more to move humanity forward than 99% of people on this planet. Your thinly veiled political diatribe fooled nobody.
@@NomenClature-o8s Spoken like a bonafide cult member. You obviously don't follow your boy's actions on Twitter. Whatever accomplishments he's made at Tesla have been tarnished by his shameful behavior in social media. Just because you don't like the truth doesn't mean people are going to stop speaking it.
Does he not know once your profile is set you don't need to adjust the setting. Has he never set up a profile .
I’m glad he doesn’t like it, the one or two Cybertrucks that he won’t get , will make it sooner that one or two people will get theirs, 2 million reservations to fill. I happen to love it, and would drive it with a smirk on my face , for those that hate it. 😏
The bottom of the back seat comes up
IMO BMWs biggest mistake with the i3 was the 10-speed bike tires they put on it. I get why they did so (range), but if they'd have put some wide/racy tires on it there might've been a shot at it doing way better than it did. The bike tires on it just supremely drive home or round out if you will, the clown-car-vibe. I don't have an EV & maybe never will, but I do think it's kind of a shame the i3 wasn't marketed as more of an alternative sports car of sorts.
In regard to the current dystopian situation in swaths of L.A. & SF, 'elections have consequences' (especially local & state). I was in SoCal last weekend & all I can say is it's a damn shame what's been allowed to happen in CA (Laws & taxes). Very sad.
This Car screams "My owner is a douchebag"
Make audio levels higher music levels down
Appreciate the feedback.
Most people who have a Cybertruck are posers who want a statement vehicle. That's why not more people haven't crashed the thing, IMHO.
It is hideous and disgusting! Maybe ok for military but should not be on public roads
From my wife’s non-car enthusiast position that never notices or asks anything about any other vehicle on the road ever at any time, saw for the first a Cybertruck in person pull in traffic ahead of us. She stated “what is that.” I told her it was Tesla’s latest and a week or so later I asked her what she meant and found it wasn’t as much as a question so much as it was a declarative derogatory statement in the form of a question. Yes it is a spectacle and unfortunately not very efficient when it comes to electricity use doesn’t charge as fast as my vehicle and doesn’t have any more utility as far as seating interior room and certainly has far less critical recalls. Even though my wife’s Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 is their first, it manages itself better, cost half and makes my wife the talk to the campus. Unfortunately, for Tesla, the 4680 battery
for their vehicles have not worked out the ability to bring in electricity at a rate that it can maintain even using a 350 kW Electrify America at 800V. The I5 is noticeable as futuristic but it’s not in your face to the point where most people have to ask if it is electric? The UX is not complicated and keeps plenty of switch gear keeping us off the screen for the majority of the time. Apple Car play is a huge plus and trip navigation with charging stops their giant to slay. It’ll never leave you stranded for the extra charging stops but obviously lack a multi-network availability and customization level of arrival SOC. Great assessment. 43:28
The Cybertruck is the ugiest vehicle since the Pontiac Aztek.
Yes, but at least it's very capable! 😅
It is a truck! I don't care too much at how it looks but prefer its utility, for a truck.
I will never buy anything from Elon musk.
That truck is the ugliest and most dangerous thing on the road.
What car is behind you?
Bentley
Has this channel made a video about it?
Not yet but it is certainly a special one as the car was sent back to the UK to have the engine rebuilt. While there, it was bored out to increase displacement and output.
Ahhh the Tesla -Shite-Truck
...a misprint there, should be a
DYSTOPIAN FAILURE
First time watching this channel....based on this episode, I wouldn't watch it again. Sorry not for everyone.
Sorry George but Nathan's spot-on on this one...not only a joke but Elon's middle finger to all of good taste in America! But, back to Nathan's remark..... looking at it on the street and in the parking lot, it is a joke!
Why were you driving it like a GT3? It is not a Porsche. Not every vehicle has to be driven like one is on a racetrack.
Arguably every type of passenger, civilian vehicle should have good on limit handling characteristics. The limit is only at that, so to explore the fidelity of design you have to drive it hard.
Additional the CT is marketed on its performance by Tesla, a selling point. If thats the case than why not test said performance?
@@air-headedaviator1805 Not everyone approaches or evaluates cars in the same way. Many TH-cam reviewers, especially those who review a wide range of vehicles like Porsche and BMW, sometimes miss the primary focus of the car and end up reviewing them incorrectly. For instance, a few years ago, Jason Cammisa had to adjust his approach while reviewing the LC500 because he initially misunderstood the vehicle's purpose. Just because a Lexus ES350 has an F Sport badge doesn't mean it should be driven like an LFA or RCF. That's my point.
And if you do try to hustle the 6863 lb cyberbeast on all terrain tires like a GT3, I'd suggest Baja mode in smooth terrain and dial in some rear bias to get rid of those understeer nannies. The truck has a 48.5%/51.5% weight distribution with the turning point very close to its center of inertia.
The Cybertruck is already an icon of Design and an out of proportion image icon the only question is…who will be the next icon ?
The Cybertruck 2.0 which is ready for production now and will be built in GIGA Germany
Why’s the other guy there?
Its the fella from TFL Truck right? Maybe he was already sitting there :)
Tfl has a LA office
He’s a very regular visitor to the channel
You need to drive it again and check the setting. Being a Rental people could have been in the setting.
The Back seat folds up and that’s not the only thing you are wrong about. Should do your research before talking so much crap
We were referring to the lack of a flat floor when folding the seat up. We foster an open discussion, not folks jumping to conclusions and being rude when doing so.
I thought the battery penthouse is under the rear seat.
