Great video. I have a 125 gallon aquarium and i keep a alligator snapping turtle in. my temp is set at 81. My watter level in the tank is about 12 Incs. My question is can I put a glass top on the tank ? will the duck weed still grow ? Alligator snapping turtles don't need the uva or uvb . I put the duck weed in 7 days ago with no glass top on and it has grown so fast. I have a fx6 canister filter that keeps the water crystal clear.

Kathryn, I would start by feeding your fish as much as they can eat in 5 minutes, once a day. (expect to start with a cupful and work up to a quart or more) At first, your tilapia will not know what duckweed is but they will soon get the idea. :)

I am growing lemna minor in a kiddy pool bought on amazon. After watching your video I found tons in local ponds however 99% of it is what I think is wolffia ( water meal?) I am using it for chicken feed supplement I have discovered there over ten varieties of wolffia. Are wolffia varieties a good high protein source of food for my chickens. Thanks Harry

How much duckweed do you feed your fish per day ? We have tilapia, medium size, about 45 of them. Thank you!

can it grow in depth? meaning if I were to use a clear fish tank would the duck weed grow in down? if it still gets lights? would the tank need a aerator? and what aqqirim bacteria would I need (please list the brand and types for all the ones I need for non stop growth).

Absolutely amazing technique for finding duckweed. I thought I would have problems finding in China. Pull up google maps and presto. Many many little light green ponds. Amazing

It depends on the quality of your duckweed- how long are the roots? If more than 1 inch, I'd use the fresh duckweed as a carotene and carb supplement in addition to their normal rations. If less than an inch, the protein content should be good enough to incorporate up to 15% as part of their daily rations.

Roberto, sorry, just noticed your posting. Perhaps your ammonia concentration is too high in your effluent. Also, are you letting your sediment settle first? email me at tamraf9@gmail.com for a continued conversation.

Chip, it's a bit difficult to tell some species from each other, but the genera are fairly easy to tell apart. For a good taxonomy key, try waynesword.palomar.edu/1wayindx.htm

It may just be the food of the future. It's potential to provide biomass every 3 days makes it a highly attractive plant for future foods, at least for animals that are grown for foods
