I have noticed these questions, but I've always been asked from older and unattractive ladies and from the ones already married. From the tone they use I can easy tell she's "window shopping" or looking for a new guy. Ok....well what if she knows I have a crush on her, we're great friends and confide in each other about everything, she has a boyfriend who demeans her and she claims is not the one for her and knows it's gonna end, and she's always telling me I'm "pretty", boosting me up and ALWAYS giving me hints or straight up blurting out things that she wants/prefers in a man and then also things that are dealbreakers. Is she just using me for that emotional validation to fill a gap or is she (knowingly or unknowingly) trying to keep me on the hook so that she can set up her next relationship? Keep in mind, she's NEVER mentioning to me specific men she finds attractive or specific men in general, she's only ever saying shit like "I don't care about talking politics with whoever I'm going to date" or "XYZ thing is a no go. I could never date a guy that's into anime."
The list goes on and on, I feel like I know almost 80 percent or more of what she's looking for in a partner...it's like she's knowingly or unknowingly creating a list for me to mentally check and see if I'm ticking the boxes. In any case, I felt a little weird about it afterwards because I was so assertive and forward about it for once and so I, insecurely but jokingly said to her "Hope that wasn't weird for you!" and I explained how I'd been feeling more assertive since starting a newer healthy habit and felt more confident in just speaking my mind in certain ways. She responded by saying that it wasn't weird at all that she LIKED assertiveness. Ok...so...uh...now what? To my mind that feels like a green light to be assertive more often with her about how I feel or think including if I want to compliment her in that way. But at the same time, I wasn't expecting that response, honestly, it was almost more something I wanted to get off my chest with the expectation that she might be like "Hey it's ok, I appreciate it but look we're just friends" or something along the lines of accepting the compliment but clearly signaling in a platonic/friendly way "hey, that was a little weird you nerd!". Instead I got what my mind takes as "Yes, more please". Am I misguided here? And before you say it, yes I AM overthinking this because I'm quite ADD and overthink even the smallest things in life and would be happy to pick up a random stone outside and ponder the small lifeforms living under it.
