    I love the idea of starting off a three-day workshop with the "Nothing we do today actually matters unless _____ " that's a great hook. Now I need to develop the punch line. In case you and others want to noodle on it, I'd gladly take suggestions. The workshop covers 3 days - Managing Self with a focus on Organizational Health (thank you Pat Lencioni), Day 2 is Managing Your Team - Engagement and Recruiting; Belonging & Inclusion. Day 3 is Managing the Business - Strategic Thinking and Change.

      Mmm! "Nothing we do this week matters unless...the ideas we discuss helps you work 3 hours less each week while getting the same amount done." Or reduces the number of eye-roll moments in a work week. I usually lean toward more sticky/memorable/concrete language as opposed to just "more or less of some vague thing." But I don't know your group. I'd love to know what you come up with. Ideally what comes after is something THEY really care about-not you. Not the organization. The PEOPLE that make the organization/event run.

    And connection before content. Probably one of the single most important things I've learned from listening to you. Thanks. ❤

      Yup! Never want people wondering 50% through a meeting or event..."why am I here?" "What are we doing here again?" Clear intent allows everybody to CHOOSE to play the same "game."

    4:33-4:51is what I should have done recently. I invited students to write something on a board and less than half took me up on the opportunity. Now, if I do the activity again, I'll make sure to structure it the way you suggest.

    Chad, you never disappoint! Always get some great ideas from your videos, and apply them too. I have one idea to share, that builds on the idea of a wall or place to post 'aha's' and 'takeaways'. At a conference I helped design a year ago, we also included a place to post 'what I am still curious about'. This proved to be a great way for the conference planners to follow up throughout the year, helped guide year long programming, and was a great source of conversation starters.

    Great stuff! Our next big gathering is in April and the goal of those two days will be for our organization to collectively come up with ideas on where we want to be/who we want to be in 2030. So I'd love to hear some outside the box ways to share why this matters!

      Makes a big difference to shock an audience enough to all REALLY hear the purpose and intent of a gathering. It allows everybody to head nod "yes, I want to play the same game you are playing." Or to head nod "no, I'm going to find a different event, haha."

    Love your content and great video, Chad. Thank you!! I'm about to MC the 2-day 2024 NSW HR Leadership Summit. They say their focus is to strongly emphasise navigating complexity and building a more resilient workplace where human-centricity, sustainability, inclusivity and psychological and physical safety remain at the heart of a modern business. I'd LOVE to hear your thoughts on the "Nothing we do today actually matters unless ___ " My first go is:
    Nothing we do today actually matters unless - the ideas we discuss help you simplify complexity and develop more resilient, human-centric workplaces, brimming with sustainability, inclusivity and holistic safety.
    Still feels too wordy! 🤪
    ChatGPT helped with: "unless it contributes to creating workplaces that are simpler, more inclusive, and safer for everyone."
    Or "unless they drive us towards workplaces that prioritise simplicity, resilience, and holistic well-being." I like this one the best so far! Still would love to hear your thoughts please and if that's ok? 😃

    • @chad.littlefield
      @chad.littlefield  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The more simple and punchy, the more useful and memorable. "Nothing we do today matters ... UNLESS ... something you care about gets better because of our time here today. THEN...I might invite the group to pause...consider which of all the buzzwords mentioned about they care most about...and then have them shout out a few things THEY want to improve upon in their own organizations. So part you setting the context for "better" and part them actually choosing the specific lane their looking to improve on. Have fun MCing, Bonita!! Good luck!

    • @BonitaNuttall
      @BonitaNuttall 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@chad.littlefield I love, love, love this! Thank you for helping me simplify this Chad!! 😊🙏🏻
      After saying the purpose statement, I'll invite them to shout out a few buzzwords. Then I was going to then invite them to pull out their phones and vote on some of the key buzzwords on Mentimeter.
      Then invite them to collect gems, diamonds and nuggets throughout the conference. I'll give them pockets of time to consider what those might be.
      And then at the end of day 2, we'll come back again and I'll invite them to use Mentimeter again to create a Wordcloud of some of the awesome ideas, buzzwords, and gems they've experienced, heard, felt thought etc.
      Then the organiser can email it to them all as a keepsake of their collective gems.
      Btw, both the organiser and I are super excited about this and I think it's going to add some great connection, purpose and intentionality.
      Thanks so much Chad, love your work and appreciate your sharing. I've sent on some of your work to the organiser too in case they want to use your services in future.
      😊✨🙏🏻

    Thank you for all of your videos and resources - Connection before Content is the beginning of every meeting agenda I facilitate. I love the context hook and I am presenting at a National Crisis Response Training conference later this summer. We are presenting on training and supporting a crisis response team at a school district level. Any suggestions on the Nothing we do today actually matters unless.... hook? 😃

    • @chad.littlefield
      @chad.littlefield  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Super important event for a context hook! "Nothing we do today matters unless you walk away with an immediately practical tool or idea that helps you save someone's life within the next 3 months." It'd pack a punch at the very least. Now, the catch is that with a compelling context hook, you've got to make sure the event to follow can deliver on this promise. All your speakers should KNOW the context heck before they even show up too. It serves as a design filter to help them help you keep the promise to the audience 👍👍

    "Nothing to do today really matters... unless"? What would you recommend? Stakeholder mapping for researchers is the topic

    • @chad.littlefield
      @chad.littlefield  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ooof...I might need a bit more context, so feel free to share. But a shot in the dark might be: "Nothing we do today matters...unless...you walk out with a clear picture of who can help your research make a difference/win better grants/accelerate the timeline of a project/etc.
      Again, definite shot in the dark without more context. Now that you have it though...I'd love to hear an example of one you think might work. Remember, we're wanting to bake something THEY (researchers) really care about into the opening intent.

    Excellent analysis 💜
    Chad i have heard that Co-workers are not your friends so how to build relationships at work to succeed faster than normal as it is said that network is networth ? Could you explain what one should be doing strategically in order to increase value & influence without being trapped in taking unwise steps or staying around losers.. People or experts on this issue have different and contradicting view points some say coworkers are not your friends, some say they can be friends..its confusing so last stop is i believe in your opinion about complex subjects...

    • @chad.littlefield
      @chad.littlefield  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'll be blunt. The way this question is phrased is very much phrased with "me" as the priority. When I think about networking and connection, I think it is much more useful to focus on supporting and uplifting the people around you. The book "The Go Giver" is a wonderful window into this concept. Conversation is like a lottery. Sometimes you have a talk that changes your life, career trajectory, perspective, etc. But likewise...you can help help other people win the conversational lottery by sharing opportunities, connecting people to each other, asking thoughtful questions, etc.

    @Chad - Love the conversation starter. Can you elaborate? So, is that question on a name tag, or do they just put the answer on the name tag? So, at a check-in table, they would write their answer. Is it something you collect beforehand? I love your work, supporter since KS!
