This feels like you're experiencing a nightmare.
My favourite part is between 15:40-16:00, the game really gives you a huge middle finger at that point and is like "No, I won't let you win!", lol.
It's actually pretty doable with a bit of stage memorization and good RNG with 1-ups, which this game practically showers you with. Until you get to area 7, that is...

My strategy is to always get the red "S" weapon and then use that weapon as much as possible.
It's awesome that this game made it onto the 3DS eShop. It would've been a shame to let such a great old game go to waste. Though did I notice Shinobu Yagawa's name in the credits? He of Raizing and Ibara? It does show. About the ending though, these guys may have meant to make a true one for this mode.
i think it's secure to say it's one of the best games on the NES.

It's a game which was made to show what the NES was capable of. There was not made many cartridges of the game though. It's incredibly rare.

I don't know why anyone would do this to themselves. But this game is still awesome.
22:14 is a legend. remember NES can draw only 8 sprites per horizontal line.
This game uses a lot of tricks in order to allow itself to "break limitations" for an NES game.
For example, most enemies make vertical movements so that they bypass the horizontal scanline obstacle, and enemies like the ones on 22:14 probably appear and disappear in turns as they are needed.
Yea... it's looking like SNES or Genesis one, but this is really NES game!

I remember when i was 4 or 5 years old i played that game. But after this, i had epilepsy attacks after the shots on the boss and his destruction.

It doesn't flicker THIS much. It seems to be a encoding error.

I got a reproduction cart of this game, but unfortunately, I can't access Hard mode except by clearing the game... I would have loved to try that mode.

Да, я тоже когда спустя 18 лет после знакомства с игрой с огромными усилиями её всё таки прошёл, то увидев эту надпись искал продолжение, но видимо не стали выпускать продолжение, возможно иза того что игра реально мегасложная и мало кто прошёл её, игра была не популярна и нк стали делать продолжение

I believe it is a series of the exact same image overlapping eachother. The images are moving in a series of sinuos pattern with increasingly higher wavelength. Or at least thats what I make of it. VERY creative effect here.

While I do admire the sheer amount of bad guys on the screen at once, this game suffers from two things that make it a fucking legend. The first thing that it needs, and desperately, might I add, is some two player simultaneous game play and the second thing that it needs is MUCH better music. Were those things actually in this game, then Recca would be an AWESOME game.
So, why you exactly don't like the musics? They are very fitting for a game like this and they are different from the usual NES music, which is especially why I like them.
Baka94, I kind of felt like a take off of a Konami style space epic game really suits this game more than the horrible crap that is in this game that passes for music. If I knew how to use a Famitracker, let alone had the proper set up and training to use one, then I would make up a song in order to prove what I say is right to you, sir.

Pax Humana Maybe the reason you don't like the musics is because of the detuned/off-key notes? Even though the musics are a little bit unusual, I think they are important for the game's atmosphere. If I remember right the composer said something about that he got the influence to the music from Detroit Techno.
