- As vehicles get older the rubber weatherstripping along the windows can get dry and cracked. As this happens, water can enter into the door causing issues. The rubber molding can be easily replaced as shown by Andy Phillips in this video.

Great idea. Because with some cars, you have to take apart the entire door panel and remove the window. The pieces are called window sweeps. But this method saves you time and money, well done sir!
Thank you 👍
I've only had my car for 4 years and it's already doing this. I was frustrated but I'm glad this can be easily fixed.
Casually has a Countach in the garage lol! Thanks for the video, gonna do this to my 86 Celebrity
Dude that’s what I was fuckin saying haahah
That's not a Countach. More like a Fiero kit car. Too many inaccuracies
Rare as whip
Nice Countach in the garage
😍😎
Thanks for tutoring this ignorant student Andy. Last night, on the drivers side window of my 2016 Civic, a thin rubber strip just below the dry and cracked rubber weatherstripping came apart on one end and the free end (and middle) was sticking to the window when I rolled it up and down. Here in S. Florida its been raining all week and needed to get it repaired scared it may cause more damage inside. I saw your video last night for the first time and thought it was too got to be true in my case. This morning I took the car to the Honda dealership and replaced everything (not sure all it entails) on just the drivers side window for $300. It looks nice and new but similar to your finished product using a $10 tape, alcohol and rag. The other three windows rubber weatherstrippings are also dry and cracked and was advised to replace soon. Fortunately, the rubber strip on all 3 of the remaining windows are still intact and didn't have to replace. For now. I am watching your video again now because I will be using your method before the rubber strip detaches on any of the other 3 windows. Saving up to $900 total. As soon as it stops raining of course and the Sun starts beaming again for a couple of days 👍. Sorry for my long winded story but I thought it would be nice to share as a token of my appreciation. Take care and much success to you and your loved ones. Rock on amigo, Max. 🙏
A little cooler talk while waiting for my 3M Civic 2016 approved tape to come in from eBay, I've been watching all kinds of cool videos on people removing the entire strip on Civics. If and when I ever replace the other 3 on my own I will always remember this video that got me there (also the $300 Honda dealership easily got from me). Many blessings amigo, Max.
@@MaxCamacho did this work out for you? I have the same problem with my 2016 Civic. I was thinking replacing the part myself but if this just as good I rather save the money.
@@hummingdeer7 honestly I still have the tape untouched in the package as the other 3 windows are holding up. The weather in Miami has been rainy hard to believe since I received the tape. But honestly I know this method will only last so long (maybe 4 years) and replacing the entire weather stripping for all 4 (at least 3) would be the best bet. On Ebay you can purchase all 4 for $84. There are many videos on YT showing you how to replace them. I found it to be rather simple actually. But yeah I will do the 3 windows with the tape when the humidity goes down and the weather gets cooler. Sorry for another long winded comment to you and everyone here. Hope this helps. GL amigo. 👍
I have a 07 Honda Odyssey, this is exactly what I need! Thanks for making this video!
I have a ‘16 Odyssey with the same issue
On the face of it, A great solution from water injection into the door panel!! Just completed doing my ford fiesta 2006 😂 Followed your instructions to the letter!! The only issue I found is trying to judge where the tape finishes and the none taped area starts? It would make a big difference if 3M made a line on the opposite side of the seal indicating where the contact adhesive ends,As it is I found when operating the window the seal curls over down with window slot,?? On closing the window the seal returns, Its obviously me and my failing eye sight!!! Thanks for sharing 🇬🇧👍🤔
hello, i would like to replace my window seals too but had some misgivings. when you operate the electric window (up and down), does the new seal work???
From Buffalo, N.Y. Thanks for the information, THANKS PAL.
4:48 i don't recommend prop alcohol, it will damage paint and can damage certain plastics. Anything that sticks is best to clean with prep sol/wax & grease remover, window cleaner is pointless.
How about Dawn dish liquid?
Does anyone have a link for the stripping used? Great, easy, inexpensive repair. 68 yrs old female will be tackling this fix. Thank you!😊
@@jenniferbrown-west782 I purchased it on eBay but the seller does not have this anymore. You can search online for 20mm x 4M rubber window moulding. That is what I used.
Would auto glue be ok to apply under the rubber? I did this and it last about 6 months and peeled completely off. Thought about redoing with some auto adhesive applied under.
@@sirmitchy6718 Shoukd be fine just make sure not to glue it to the glass
@@PhillipsVision appreciate the reply. Thanks for the helpful content. 👍
What is the black strip that is revealed after removing the cracked seal? Would have expected to see a gap between glass and existing trim that wasnt removed. Is it perhaps a optical illusion where the gap looks like a seal?
The black is the plastic base for the old seal. To remove that you need to take the door apart
The Countach behind OMG
It’s a replica that I’m restoring
Just an FYI, those are window scrapers and are not meant to keep water out. They are designed to clear the dew off your glass when you roll down the glass. Also aids in controlling glass vibration.
Thanks a ton. You answered my million dollar question 🎉
I have a 95 buick and this strip is essentially gone. My doors flood and it gets the carpet wet.
What keeps the water out of inside the door?
I think it also is to keep water out of the door inside.
I've always seen them called sweeps. And if they wipe the dew off the window, they also keep water from leaking into the door. Otherwise, what DOES keep water out of your door?
Hi, where to find this adhesive tape? I live in france didn't find similar
3M product
I bought it on eBay
@@PhillipsVision your video said you would add a link to the weather striping but it looks like you forgot...did I just miss it ?
@@jchavins no, the product was on eBay and the seller changes. If you search it on there you’ll find it from various sellers.
Thank you . Is the tape a 0.5 inch or 1.0 inch ?

Greetings from Greece Andy and happy new year! I have one question, it is possible to install the weatherstrip directly on the old rubber or the glue won't hold? Thank you in advance, your video is very informative!
@@GUSPMETAL2012 Happy New Year to you as well. I installed mine partially onto the old rubber. Just make sure to remove any loose fragments first and thoroughly clean the rubber service. If you prep it well it should adhere good.
@PhillipsVision Thank you for your quick reply and your advice!👍
I had my window smashed in a break in, but they must have used a pry bar and made a 1/4 in gap on the outside of my door frame where. Noticed after installing the replacement, how the new window was no long flush with the molding. I wonder if this will work or if I'll have tear it down again and try to shape the door back to standard.
i searched every site for the 3m tape you are using BUT I cannot find one that only one side of the tape is 1/2 adhesives and the other 1/2 plain rubber !!!! HELP .....
I bought it from here, it took a while to ship but not too expensive
@@JoeMama-qx3hz but " here" is not a web site
Go to his description below the video, click on the "more" button and the rest of the description including links to the weatherstripping will appear. Hope this helps.
@@JoeMama-qx3hz i have same problem finding NON 2 sided tape. The video shows 3M 300LSE. When i search for that at Amazon and even 3M ...they all say DOUBLE side tape. I dont see any SINGLE side tape 3M 300LSE
So it wont hurt to put it over top it like that?
I wasnt sure I could do it taking the door panel off but someone tried to break in my car and messed it up bad where my window is getting stuck and wont roll up
Should be fine, just don’t get the adhesive on the glass
@@PhillipsVision okay thanks...mines a little different but I'm gonna try it.
@@PhillipsVision Thanks for the video it is clear and informative. Would the glass grab on to the rubber strip over time and fold in during rolling down the window? I see the rubber strip does not have the insulation to slide on the glass smoothly without sticking! What is your experience with this? I am trying to understand if this is a temp fix or would this last for a few years at least? Thanks!
@@yogi5864 it will last if installed properly. Don’t let the adhesive hit the window and it shouldn’t fold over
Will rain come into the car if you just remove the trim and dont add any back?
Water will get into the door
@@PhillipsVision do you think it would damage anything if you did that ?
@@user-bq4xc2yy3m will cause rust to the interior of the door and the mechanisms
How long time did it last? I did this sealing on a BMW e46 on the windscreen under the wipers and after two days it didn't last any more.
@@TogetherFaster mine is still fine. If you clean the surface well it should adhere good
Do you happen to have a link to the product? I'm having trouble finding the 3M weatherstripping
I don’t, but it’s on eBay if you search
@PhillipsVision I can't seem to find the item, been looking on eBay.
@@wolfpackleader2752 they may have removed it. Check Amazon as well
How did you keep it from sticking to the window?
@@Onry1 The adhesive is only on 50%, so the part that touches the window does not have it
@Philipvision. I am with your technique. But this is hiding half of the chrome , can I do it inside rather than sticking it to outside of chrome ? I have 2012 accord . The original strip sticks inside …
Hey, do you happen to know the actual product name of this tape? I'm searching and I cannot find this specific tape anywhere.
Search on eBay, that’s where I got it. It’s called window trim edge moulding. I purchased 4M
So if mine has started melting a little is it to far gone for this technique?
@@TattmanFishing No, should be fine. You’ll strip the bad weather stripping off and apply the new
@@PhillipsVision okay thank you 🙏🏻
why didnt you lower the window?
How wide was the stopping that you used ?

Whats the model of that strip and brand?
It’s 3M and you need the thickness that your car requires
