Dear Kristine! This recording made me crying, it makes me remembering to a music school competition concert when I was around 18, and I was playing Bach's BWV1033 on a treble recorder. When I was playing that sonata's 3rd movement, I saw a couple sitting in the last row. Then I was watching them, and played it for them. After the piece, I was crying a bit. I could not learn this one [bwv1034 in this video] when I was a kid, I didn't have the score, and even I couldn't play the highest Fis note on my cheap alto recorder. I had a CD, and this Bach e-minor was the favourite track on that disc. It was an album of a local trio, with a harpsichord, a viola da gamba and a recorder player. My music teacher told me not to learn professional recorder music even I'm talented, because in my country (Hungary) musicians aren't well paid, and I was also talented in electronics, so I learned electrical engineering, and later, pipe organ building. Now I can afford a better recorder, and sometimes I play in a local church orchestra, in some Bach church music containing a recorder part. I've found an old recording when - as a teenager kid - I've played Vivaldi's sopranino recorder concerto in c-major.[edit: the video is on my TH-cam channel.]
@Anna Dayton And with the wretched pop "music" of today, we HAVE gone "Bach"! But with a good Liszt of the classics, we can get a much better Handel on great music, otherwise life, as I'm sure you know, would B-flat!
@@captebbtide Enjoyed your witty comment! My first love is baroque music but I do enjoy modern music in all it's form (if I can see some real creativity. But the again, who am I to judge).

There is something that feels so genuine about this recording, you can tell they really love and feel the music they are playing. Especially the harpsichordist haha
Every flutist admits that Bach's flute sonata in e-minor is very excellent. Especially, regarding 4th movement Allegro, despite the fact that it's so hard for modern flutists, she is playing it so brilliantly and accurately. It's very astonishing . Besides, her alto recorder performances are extremely artistic. From Tokyo
@@yonatanbeer3475 Can't blame them. There are too many panists or violinsists out there, and there's a need to stand out. Assuming that's what you meant by "popular instruments".
West's recorder playing in the andante is brilliant( the whole composition is masterpiece but for me it's all about the andante) but I think credit also needs to be given to the continuo players and the sound engineers as well. The harpsichord accompaniment is fluid and alive- it can sound very square and clunky in other recordings. West is superb at unspooling an exquisitely connected thread of sound, her tone and control are amazing. Wrenchingly beautiful. Bravo all!
I do love all musicians here...their emotional way of playing. The Allegro must be very difficult to play...especially for the recorder. I do like the soft and fluent way of playing. Professionally!
Heavenly music from JS Bach performed beautifully by the original instruments trio, bravo. The original is in e minor for baroque flute transposed into g minor for playability on the alto recorder. This used to be one of my own favorite "show-off" recorder sonatas at many concerts for its technical virtuosity and beauty. Pure fun to play!
Masterful playing by all three musicians! Yes, the alto recorder is a serious instrument! Bravi! (And what a visually and acoustically fabulous setting!)
El Océano llamado Bach no para de sorprenderme, incluso piezas menores de las que nadie ha oído hablar son preciosas obras maestras que nos hacen recordar que Él es el Océano del Arte.
They are not period instruments. they are copy's/facimiles of period instruments. So they are actually more accurate to use than period instruments. Bach would have used brand new instruments. Woodwind instruments do not ripen over time on the contrary.... they deteriate over time and become unplayable. harpsichords do ripen over time so they would sound a bit different from the new harpsichords Bach would have heard. Period harpsichords however are extremely expensive and even tho their sound ripens over time ..... the mechanic action doesnt. they are unreliable and have too much issues in the action and tuning instabilities.
As wonderful as the recorder is in this performance - and it truly is! - the thing that struck me was the cello playing. It's so good, you almost don't notice it, it sort of merges with ... something. Beautiful, all three!
The music is absolutely beautiful -- great technique and attention to musicality -- but may I also add that I LOVE the choice of your outfit and how it perfectly complements the surroundings, the harpsichord, and the music style. Bravo.
Until just a couple of months ago I never realised serious music was written for the recorder. All we got to play in recorder lessons at school were things like "Twinkle Twinkle Little Bat" (Lewis Carol) and "While Shepherds Washed Their Socks by Night" (anon). Thank you Kristine, for educating me at 71 years of age.
Stephan Cook I'm 71 too and when I was 12 my dad told me to put away the recorder and play a ''real'' flute. Some years ago I returned to the recorder and got a ''real'' teacher. I have a lot of catching up to do

An excellent group of very musical and skillful musicians. They have a great Baroque sensibility.
Loved it! I makes me want to go practice my recorder. And it makes me want to buy a harpsichord and learn to play cello.
Your colleague on the harpsichord is absolutely loving it!! 😂 Beautiful music thank you again
BACH BACH BACH! And three musicians who know how He must be played. Thanks for me and Unser Vater JS BACH!
I love the way the performers are smiling! This is intended to be fun music and it is

What kind of recorder is she playing? Sounds so unique and awesome.
treble recorder, played excellently in an excellent trio.
but is it the same tune in e minor?

Love all the parts but, especially the Recorder. Wow. Fantastic.

people who're aware of 18th century tempi and 18th century continuo sources, just to name a few

Beautiful performance by all three musicians. Love the recorder tone.
pure goodness ..lovely tones …Bach at his best and these players are a joy

Still so beautifully played! As a recorder player, it is the ultimate standard we should all strive up to !
Such passion in these musicians
this is so beautiful, i didn't expect to cry but i couldn't stop
3:28 the harpsichord harmonising with the recorder! Fabulous.
Masterful. Love the period instruments to show us all what Bach really sounded like in his time.

Emociona al corazón ver que las grandes obras seguirán sonando en manos de nuevas generaciones...
This literally makes me want to cry cheers of joy. Also, I like how the harpsichordist doesn't have a music rack, he just reads his music sideways.
And looks at the other players with smiles of encouragement! Awesome trio indeed!
flutefun999 oh yes his joy is contagious
Good catch. I was sure that I was not the only one to watch them play from the heart and not from sheet music.
The music stand would block the harpsichord's sound from the player.
ridiculously beautiful... love it !
Brilliantly played. So exciting to see you all play with such joy.

Очень чистый звук (ровное дыхание). Браво!
Fantàstico conjunto, hermoso sonido de la contralto,un "fiato" espectacular, felicitacioones y gracias por compartirlo!!!
The unison between Stina and Marcus is perfect, which gives the recorder its moment to really shine and make off with that glorious melody.
Yes, indeed....I fell in love with recorders for reason ♥
Wonderful. Perfect accoustics. Perfect pace. Brilliant individuals and teamplayers. Its just one big joy to listen to and to watch....
