Something I discovered today is that the long headshots are much, much easier if, once your crosshair is next to the target, you press your palm into the mousepad to steady it, then just use your wrist to pivot the mouse around it. You can also take the pressure off and pivot from your forearm if you need to make quick turns, or use a little bit of palm pressure to smooth out longer strokes and avoid shooting your crosshair past the target. I wish someone had just pointed this stuff out to me when I started playing shooters.
Quick tech with her. You jump higher if you don’t move when you use shift So if you can’t hit a high ground, try standing still and booping THEN moving towards it. You’ll go that little bit higher. It’s important for hitting the hybrid point high ground on numbani and a few other ones
5:13 There's a tech to mitigate this weakness. If you just tap outburst while holding a movement direction, without holding jump OR holding the ability down, then you get tons of horizontal distance without the vertical height. In other words, no vulnerability for getting around corners. Also just a really good tech for mobility in general. When you need to reposition quickly, while leaving spawn, etc. You can even hold jump before landing again, to get an extra b-hop for more distance.
This was extremely helpful! I really liked the new format where you spliced three reviews together to illustrate the thought process at varying skill levels.
Your coaching and tips are nice, but for me what is even more pleasant thing is that you talk with no strong accent, have nice voice and with overall good quality audio
you were talking about indirect value around 8 min and ive gotta say i absolutely love getting solo tired as a genji instead of having them take out our tank or sups. im learning in a lot of instances me diving and taking out a supp and weakening the other (then dying) often provides a lot of value for the fight, i dont necessarily have to be there for the entirety. im like an entry fragger and ill gladly trade myself with a higher value target to lessen their resources (with the assumption i can confirm the kill otherwise im feeding lol
@@LuigixD oh for sure if its consistent team fight wins then hopefully theyll know better than to flame. a 25 - 0 - 25 genji still has 25 kills 🤷♂ odds are youre not going 1to1 on every trade tho
Been playing a lot of illari recently and want to add a note to her ultimate usage, I have actually found that it's a perfect response to the OPPONENTS ultimate push. If a rein shatters or a genji blades, anything that starts the push for the opposing team, popping your illari ult and hitting a few targets immediately stops their push as they scramble for cover. Specially genji blade has become an insta ult reaction for me not only because of hitting him with the ult, but also getting up in the air where he can't hit you. As you play her you will start to find many of these powerful ultimates that illari can immediately shut down. It can really turn a fight.
There are edge cases where I use her ult for mobility to peak over a wall or traverse big gaps. Create a crazy off angle and then use primary fire even if I sun gets eaten or hits a wall because the projectile is the size of sigma rock (TY ML7).
I rather like using captive sun as a zoning tool. I’m not actively looking to use it that way, but it can be pretty nice when there’s a situation that you’d like to not have to think about for a few seconds because something else is going on that needs your attention, or to ruin the enemy’s attempt to pincer your backline. Obviously, it’s a lot more dopamine-inducing to just blow people up, but forcing enemies to just chill for several seconds can be so valuable if done at the right time. _Edit:_ In general, I feel like I’ve been pretty well-served by using Captive Sun in many of the situations where I’d use Coalescence. To me, Illari feels like Moira for people who actually want to aim.
Illari movement techs are kinda like doomfist, you can hit doorframes to get fast and bhop to get further after. There is a video made by getquakedon and its really helpful understanding the weird movement ability. I tbh felt lost on how it works the first day she was released and couldn't really use it until i got some tips from that video.
I think the hardest thing about Ilarri is learning the inconsistency in full CD or CD reset theater the pylon receive dmg or needs to recover for 3 seconds after taking dmg before you can redeploy it. I think Blizzard makes it very unclear for players trying to learn her because Blizzard doesn't put out that information ingame.
11hours deep on her.. been waiting for this to drop. played sliver 1 - plat 2 so far. very fun hero. funny though no one complains about her lack of utility. she has a boop more than moira lets be honest.. its heal or dps really. if you pylon gets hard focused it just is going to feel like a bad game.
As someone that's a bit of a sticker for pronunciations (not in terms of correcting others, just myself), I definitely appreciate the efforts I've seen towards pronouncing Illari correctly. But it does make me question, why her, and not someone like Kiriko (And I guess genji and hanzo by extension)? Or Sombra? I'm pretty sure most americans, and even spanish speakers in Illari's case, mispronounce these names, but then again, I'm also American. Fuck do I know?💀 Just some thoughts I had lol.
I think Get Quacked On did a really good video on movement with Illiari, would recommend checking it out once. From that video, one thing about Illiari's movment to get back into cover that you explained for her outburst, I think the air time can be reduced if you press only directional buttons + tap the outburst rather than hold it and you can sort of dash into the cover like jet (i don't play valorant but that's the best I can describe it)
I'm bronze so who knows if I'm getting this but it seems like all 3 ranks received very simalr messages. Essentially: " look for angles to position aggressively with pylon and take relaxed shots". Would you think it's productive to take that as the main takeaway here?
I just hate the HUGE gun in the middle of your screen. At the begin I even used the "iron sights" by accident because its just so much in the way. Changed my crosshair for her because of it
I don't really agree with your ult tips. I think it's probably one of the worst 1v1 ults to just "secure a pick" considering you have to hit a headshot to secure a kill anyways. Also, most players are slow/uncomfortable flying so it's easier to hit her. As an engagement tool, it's beneficial on a flank only. There's too many cool downs facing main that can deny it's value entirely (shields, stuns, matrix, etc.).
I didn't follow your pronunciation of her name, it doesn't match with what you put on screen. eel-yah-ree is how I would say it and what you say sounds to me like ee-lee-yah-ree which sounds like it has a whole extra syllable snuck in there. is that you struggling to say it correctly or is that what you were trying to convey with the onscreen words? I appreciate the effort, kinda wish blizzard made it more clear from their side to be honest.
funny you say that ult can be used as a zoning tool may seem controvertial, I always think about those tricky skills as to how they would translate to a moba setting, and this would obviously be a very good zoning ult
Only Johnny G himself could truly teach us how to master Illari
What is a Johnny G comment doing here?!?
It is I, John Johnny G, himself
@jeferery113ya4 what isn't it doing
God I love johnny gs sleep darts
ILLARI is a 1.5x multiplier, not 2x- my mistake!
Had a couple of mic issues in the last two sessions which means I may cut out a few times- apologies!
“I don’t know, I used to play guitar hero.” That girl rules.
Should also mention that for her Outburst if you tap it you go further forward and if you hold it you go further upward
he said he wasn't doing micro stuff, but still a good tip

Little trick I use with her outburst- crounching before outburst shortens the high of the apex of your jump so less flight time.
Quick tech with her.

Something told me not to post what I was going to say. Because you said exactly what I was going to say even referring to numbani 😭.
i do: stand still --> jump + burst
yep, for example high ground on point on Oasis Garden or Antarctic Sublevel, neutral DI on proc will let you reach those
Thanks. Didn't realize this.

0:59 isn’t illari’s hs multiplier 1.5x? 112.5 instead of 150. unless they changed this recently?
This is what I thought
Yep- good catch

Your pronunciation is on point! Thx for the vídeo, appreciate it! Cheers from Brazil
Thanks for explaining how to use illari ult I always thought I wasted is when using it just to zone

Is it 2x multiplier? I thought it was less than that because you can’t one shot Tracer in the head. 75 damage at 2x should be 150
It's a 1.5x multiplier.
the OWL casters were told they can just say "Ill-arr-ee". i think whatever basic pronunciation is fine really. i hear ranked callout is "larry" haha

Its pronounced "larry" sweaty 💅
Just a correction, Illari headshot is same as Sojourn headshot, 1.5x multiplier, not 2x

“I’m white in America doing the best I can” had such little right to be as funny as it was 🤣😭
Have you ever thought about casting? You seem both articulate and knowledgeable.
Here's even quicker guide: put healing thing on a wall then hit headshots
ult set up - position pylon so that i can be healed and be aggressive while in air. hit shift and at the end of the jump hit Q.
But the gun doesn't have 2x crit multiplier? You can kill in 3 bodyshots but not 1 headshot and 1 bodyshot

just unlocked her, this is super helpful!

Using melee also stops the primary fire charge.
Wait is it 2x for headshots? I just saw it say 1.5 on the wiki
Wait is this a bible ref in the bottom right corner?
never heard it referred to as a reference before
