I have ADHD and generally can't stand to watch anything longer than 3 minutes that doesn't immediately get to the point, but you are magical. Something about your cadence and presentation and lovely personality and sense of humor just keeps me hooked!
Hi jillianeve I've made 2 wrist distaffs and I them, showed them to guild members and not sure if they understood . Thanks again for the video Thanks again Sheila
What a great informative video, thanks for sharing. I will adopt a Distaff Day with my spinning friends and so love your idea of a window box. I too share your view on clothing and am working thru my wardrobe. No more manmade fibres for me or this family. Living a more sustainable simply life. Please keep the vids coming. Debs
Late to the discussion here (and picking out yarn for my new wrist distaff), but I’m also a larger hard-to-fit woman and am working on an intentional wardrobe as well. :-). Best luck!
Have you seen Embody by Jacqueline Cieslak? She created a size inclusive capsule wardrobe. It's an awesome book, and full of sewing and knitting patterns.
huh, I've been using ziploc bags in my purse to hold my fiber when I bring my drop spindle out with me. That's mostly to keep my fiber clean since I'm also a forager and have a tendency to pluck particularly tempting seed pods off of business garden beds downtown.
Thank you for this video. It is very informative and you created an easy to make item for holding the wool. I might actually try that once I actually get the hang of spinning. As for your wardrobe, I always think you look very presentable and lovely, but I know what you mean about not being purposeful with choices. If there are things you already have that you like and suit you, keep them regardless of where they come from as the money has already been spent. If it ain't broke and all. Upcycling and purchasing clothing from charity shops (we have a lot of those in the UK) or second hand stores is a good way to help the environment by keeping them out of landfill. Natural products are great but we also need to think about how items are made and their impact on the environment while wanting to look good. I got rid of a lot of clothes because they fit but didn't suit me, so I understand. It is also interesting to know how little stuff we really need and that people don't care about what we wear. Good luck with your journey!
Really nice to know something about the distaff and how it was and is used. I’m not (yet) making a distaff, but you gave me some inspiration for a bracelet 😀
Glad it was helpful! My son made me earrings for Mother's Day with the leftover beads. My distaff matches my earings! Maybe you could make a distaff/bracelet set???
i just joined PF FOTM club and found your channel from the unboxing/spinning video of the current month... but i am glad i did! so much to watch now :) this video has made me add a new holiday to my calendar and potentially a new tradition (the year's skien) starting with 2021. i need some place nice to stash my fluff bits through the year now.
Hi Eve! I watch this video so many time and I'm now preparing to make my own wrist distaff, too! I'm just curious how do you let small beads get through the yarn? Thank you for your wonderful videos!
I just picked up a drop spindle and the wool getting in the way is a massive ordeal- i was wrapping it over and over my arm to try to get the long tail of roving out of the way. I needed a distaff! and i was very close to this kind of method, as i realized i couldnt walk away if i was tied into it. a bracelet like this would be a very natural step. The independent distaff post is (I think) a much harder leap in progression of wool management
I'm going to be making one of these today, and try it out tomorrow, which is Distaff day, 2021. Can any yarn be used, is smooth or rougher yarn better?
Use a yarn that feels comfortable on your wrist. Distaff day is tomorrow, Jan 7th! I'll have another distaff day video up with some fun history about it!
I am just getting into spinning. This will be so helpful for me. Ty, for your channel and sharing your knowledge of spinning . I have learned so much. I definitely need to make this distaff. 🤗🧶
Hi! Thank you so much for watching my video! I have a Louet Jr. carder. I have the older model but they still make them. I love the narrow size. It has been great for all kinds of batts from fine wool to textured batts with crazy add ins. Here is an affiliate link to Paradise Fibers if you want to see all the specs on it: bit.ly/2tOf2By
I have a distaff on my other antique wheel too but that little Swedish antique wheel is still in a box. I need to get to work on my restorations! I'll have a video eventually about how to use a distaff attached to the wheel, but I need a wheel that works to use it on! Maybe you could try yours out and show us how it's done! :D

Thank you so much! 🐑🧶✨💜😊
I recently made me a wrist distaff. I didn’t have big beads handy, so I tied big washers I did have on. It’s working really well for me!
I tried to make a wrist distaff and it came out too short but it makes a brilliant hanger for my spindles you're an inspiration :-) xx
I’ve received my first Turkish spindle 💃💃💃 it’s a mini one and beautiful so I’ve ordered the mini. So now I need a wrist distaff. Thank you Evie xx
My favorite distaff is an old wooden yard stick that has a hole in the top that I use for a ribbon to wrap around the fiber.

You are so welcome! 💕
I don't have a hook size Q, but I will use my fingers instead. Thanks for this video.
Wow! I love your Joyful nature 🌷
So simple yet so effective - and pretty! This has changed my (spinning) life. Thank you for sharing. Love your videos x
I LOVE your drum carder!

I live the yarn and the photo box they are so cool wow I've never used a distaff before x
It is honestly so useful! I'm always making a mess of my spindle without it because I'm constantly catching my fiber supply in with my spun yarn!

Thank you! I'm working through my closet, but I'm really happy to say I haven't bought any new clothes this year! 💕
You are an absolute sweetheart! 🐑🐑🐑
So usefull, as usual Evie! Thank you so much! ☺️
Great demo once again! You are the Best! Thank you!
I haven’t any beads but a shoebox full of buttons 😀

This is so cool! Now I am rethinking how I spin.
There is never only one way to spin! I hope you make some awesome discoveries! 💜🧶
Hi Eve! I watch this video so many time and I'm now preparing to make my own wrist distaff, too!

I use a tiny crochet hook. 😊🧶
Now I know what to do with all my uneven spins: wristaff time!

me too just saw this and think it will help my spinning
Couldn't you let a few of the beaded distaff cords hang on the outside of the roving coil to further hold the outside from unraveling???
Interested in an "actual" distaff, not one hanging on my arm.
Also, what type of spindle are you using for that long of a finished thread?
I am just getting into spinning. This will be so helpful for me. Ty, for your channel and sharing your knowledge of spinning . I have learned so much. I definitely need to make this distaff.

The unintentional ASMR when you stripped the batting. Lol.
What batt carder do you own? Love the size of your batt.

It's a wristaff!
Why do you call it a wrist distaph when it can be a wristaph
😂😂😂
My wheel has a distaff but I took it off cos I didn't know how to use it I've got it in a cupboard xx
I have a distaff on my other antique wheel too but that little Swedish antique wheel is still in a box. I need to get to work on my restorations! @@JillianEve if I knew how to use a distaff properly I would do hahah I will check it out x
Would a wrist distract like this one, also work for wheel spinning?
I haven't tried it, but I'm sure it would!👍
Weird TH-cam is randomly marking this as private when I go to watch it again.
Save yourself the hook and use a hand. The diameter of the wool creates the loop size.
