Hosted by Jeremy Scott and Devin Kleffer (along with Carl the Intern), these two (three) friends can’t help but revisit the movies and TV shows that they loved from their younger years. Good ones! I would add Hans Gruber and his cronies, along with Freddy Kruger and Thulsa Doom as worthy “best of” candidates to the discussion.

      In no particular order:
      1) Rutger Hauer in 'The Hitcher'.
      2) KHAAAAANNNN!!!
      3) Dick Jones, Clarence Boddicker, and his entire crew.
      4) The whole pack of vampires in 'Near Dark'.
      5) Decker in 'Nightbreed' (1990 I think, but oh well).
      6) David Lo Pan ("Indeed!")

    Absolutely agree! I've commented for years about how Hollywood has this requirement in film that everything be explained up front. No. No. No. Take a film like John Wick. The first half of the film the viewer is constantly asking, "Who the heck is John Wick? Why does everyone know him? Why do all the villains respect him? Why do the police respect him? Why do people fear him? etc... etc..." You need to give enough information to allow empathy but enough mystery to generate interest, and more importantly as you mentioned we need gaps that can be filled in by our own imaginations. The audience should always have some unanswered questions in their heads. This is a powerful way to make viewer become invested in a story. It's how the villains of Mad Max, and characters like John Wick, Boba Fett, and Val Kilmer's Doc Holiday become so legendary. Origin stories can be left out, or if provided, they can be given out slowly in pieces to generate interest. Great video as always. Well done!

      Thanks so much! Love the John Wick example. The mystery surrounding him in the first film was what really pulled me in and help my interest.

    In my head, Beyond Thunder Dome never happened, and in my head Battle Truck is the 3rd MM instalment.

    Was a cool film. Plenty of action. There’s a guy with pink hair and a pink car that wouldn’t look too out of place today! Lol

    There was a theory that the Humongous was actually Jim Goose from Mad Max.

    • @livingthepast
      @livingthepast  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is such a great theory!!!!

    The 80s was retro cross over and not so much censorship like today.
    I agree but not Fury Road, to me it was a bigger departure than Thunder Dome or what Alien 3 did to Aliens.

    I dig The Road Warrior A lot. But I still like Mad Max a little better. I recently bought the 4K mad max by Kino Lorber. It’s a really good copy. Both these movies remind me of growing up and them being on HBO a lot .

      I saw Road Warrior first and didn't see Mad Max until much later. I love both but I think the Road Warrior is my favorite of the two mainly because of the nostalgia factor. I do feel Mad Max is a dream to watch and analyze. It is such a risky film when it came out and really quite an achievement. HBO was a big part of my movie watching life.

      I agree with you on what you said on part of the appeal is not exactly knowing what happened. It gives it a whole different vibe. I like your channel!

    The guy with the mohawk Wez was a great villain, in the still you have what the hell is Walton Goggins doing back there what's he like 80 years old? When mohawk guy showed up in movies other than Weird Science like Commando it was just a let down, nowhere as menacing!

  • @djcjr1x1
    @djcjr1x1 ปีที่แล้ว

    I always like to think Humongous was the big, bald, leather loving, sus captain from Mad Max somehow. Wez had a twink on the back of his bike for sure...That's only Father Figure George Michael's way😮. It's interesting how homosexuality seems accepted in those two first films, pretty surprising for '79 +'82.
