I read a study abstract (the main text is in Chinese) that putting woven UHMWPE layers in front of UD layers absorbs 20% more energy. It would be interesting to see if the same holds true for Kevlar. The study is "Ballistic mechanism of the hybrid panels with UHMWPE woven fabrics and UD laminates" if you wanted to read the abstract.
I’m considering trying out homemade armor plate for fun. I was considering carbon fiber and Kevlar with epoxy. Have you done a combination plate with layers of carbon fiber and Kevlar, maybe even fiberglass as a third material? I don’t know how many layers I would need with the better materials. Thanks
Are there any plans to connect them? I mean 1/3rd of uhwmpe or kevlar + 1/3 of FRP. or add buffer material so it will be kevlar+polyurethane+FRP with weight less than kevlar only target.
You should try 40 layer resin pressed uhmwpe see how it stops the bullet

The kevlar used in this video has 5 layers K29 and 20 layers of UD Kevlar

Yes, it stops the 44 magnum easily. I have other videos showing how well the fiberglass holds up as well.

I do have something like this I plan on testing. I even have all the material, just need to find the time to get it done.
