    Great choice of muffler brother I have the same on my 4.6 06 explorer limited. Running bf Goodrich long trail t/a tour and Hancock Ventus tires. Brake and rotor set from 1AAuto. Bulletproof and reliable so far.🇺🇸

    Ive always liked the '93-'94 explorers[1st and 2nd years] the best but I do have to say I do like the look of this one. My husband got me into the explorers and he has 4. 1 '93 and 3 '94s. Easiest to work on and the things that break or go wrong with them are always easy cheap fixes.

      I have a '94 red explorer sport with the 5-speed. Love it. I want to rebuild engine with aftermarket heads, better water jackets or something like that. And some hp upgrades. Not to many out there tho. Maybe mild cam, 50 state headers, bigger throttlebody, cold air. That's all I can think of. Any suggestions? I live in California,so....

    I bought the expedition. Bought a 3/4 inch piece of plywood cut to size for the back with the seats down. Bought the rubber matte that fits the expedition to go over the plywood. Now every piece of gear I have can be strapped down to D rings that are screwed through the matte into the plywood. Prevents any movement of all my gear. Paid $3000.00 for mine. Rust free southern truck. It's a dedicated bug out truck. My winch and farm jack are secured in the back. Have fun.

    I like what you've done with it so far! I'd definitely recommend the btf arms they helped me out a lot. The spartan locker is also excellent and the 3.73 open can be found in many lincoln Aviators. If you keep going with your build on this thing it'll be like a v8 twin to mine.

      Hawkeye Skunk Works I think you might have luck with the mountaineers. I think most v8 ones have the code 46. When you do put the locker in you might feel some binding between the front and rear in parking lots but the BWM solves it.

Look forward to watching more videos of yours.

    • @HawkeyeSkunkWorks
      @HawkeyeSkunkWorks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Appreciate the support! Yes I've seen guys do a Mustang super charger, all though it does seem to be a direct "bolt on" I don't think its as simple as that. Just like my bigger Mustang throttle body was a bolt on, it wasn't 100% just plug and play, and that was just a throttle body. I also think there's some ECU issues because the Mustang and Explorer use different computers/programs. I could be completely wrong though I haven't looked too deeply into it!

    Nice explorer! I have one at home and am looking at doing some of these modifications to mine! it is a 2004 so basically the same. Are there any of the mods you have done that you would recommend doing before others. Example body lift before suspension or upgrade the engine parts first?
    Thank you!

    • @HawkeyeSkunkWorks
      @HawkeyeSkunkWorks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well Im going to assume you are pretty mechanically inclined. If you are needing to do any suspension parts replacement like worn or struts or ball joints go ahead and add some strut spacers for a lift. Id really caution against going any higher than 2" to still get the most out of your travel (Im probably going to drop down that 1/2" from my 2.5" lift). The body lift is great, it helps by giving you more room to access the top of the struts for removal, especially at the back. If you dont need any suspension parts replaced at the moment thats definitely were Id start. Get rid of your rear sway bar, that being said DONT DRIVE LIKE AND IDIOT! Its still a top heavy SUV not a race car. If you do a suspension lift make some longer end links for the front sway bar. Go with 265/75r16 or 265/70r17 tires (depending on wheels and no E load range, too heavy). You may have to trim some inner fender on the front but its worth it and also easy. What motor and what gears do you have? I know that seems like a lot of stuff but it really isnt when you break it down. I think thats a great start to get the best "off road" performance from one of these.

    • @zachyoung9227

      I have the 4.6L V8 and I think it is 3.73 limited slip. It does have 220,000 miles on it and new ball joints, also have had some work done on the back suspension. I have had the car for 5 years as a daily driver and am going to turn it into my project car in a couple years so just trying to get it all figured out.

    Hey, what's the story on the skid plate? I have an 04 mountaineer premier and live in NYC, just looking for some performance advice and also some snow undercarriage protection. Engine wise we're running the same 4.6l as you but it's been a struggle finding mods since the truck is older. Have you come across any OEM parts from Lincoln Aviators or Eddie Bauers of the same year to mod your truck with?

    • @HawkeyeSkunkWorks

    • @HawkeyeSkunkWorks
      @HawkeyeSkunkWorks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im not sure on the actual measurements on the spacers, Id have to go crawl under the rig with a tape measure. The physical size of the spacer is not the same as the amount of lift you get, thats just how the geometry of the independent suspension works. The spacers true height are shorter than the amount of lift you will get from them. I have about 2.5" of lift in the front and 2" of lift in the back. I say "about" because it just depends on the weight of your rig (obviously) and what struts and coil springs you are running and stuff like that.

    I would think that with the limited axle flex of the independent suspension the locker would be a big improvment. front and rear lockers would really make this thing a real off road machine.

    • @HawkeyeSkunkWorks
      @HawkeyeSkunkWorks  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes a lot of guys run lunch box lockers and love them. Since I have a factory limited slip I would have to change my entire carrier to an open carrier and then install the locker because they dont fit the limited slip carriers. Some people run them in the front but they dont play too well with these on the street.

    • @HawkeyeSkunkWorks
      @HawkeyeSkunkWorks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only thing it covers is the little power steering cooler on the lower cross member. I've had no problems. I suppose if you were doing a long, slow, hot trail with lots of hard turning, you might have an issue. You could always swap in a bigger one really easily.

    • @HawkeyeSkunkWorks

      3" is too much, you probably wont be able to get it aligned. You can call BTF and ask them but Im pretty sure even those UCA's wont solve the issue.

    Take your spacer height and divide by 1.5
    2.5"/1.5= lift about 1.65"

    • @HawkeyeSkunkWorks
      @HawkeyeSkunkWorks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is incorrect. The spacers actual physical height will be less than the amount of lift gained. 2" of lift (approx) will be achieved with a 1.5" tall spacer (approx). This is how the design/geometry of these types of suspensions. Applies to Toyota's too (for example)
