For reference if you don't know, in luggage you need a valid train ticket and your bike is usually sent along with you if there is space of course. In parcel, you just drop your bike to the parcel office and they send it whenever they want. Also, you don't need a ticket in this case. Pros of the luggage system is that usually the bike travels with you and you can see it's loading and unloading. Downside is that they often try to shove your bike in the carriage where there is not enough space. That's why usually bikes receive a lot of damages. In case of parcel they try load it in a carriage where there is enough space. I transported my Honda CB 350 from Delhi to Bangalore back in Feb 2021, with the help of Gati’s truck transportation service. Figured out that the best way to get it done is to get the bike wrapped with foam and padding very heavily by the guys at the transportation center, as well as drop your bike off at the main city hub and pick it up at the other city’s main hub, this way the bike only gets loaded and unloaded once from the truck. The experience was still very worrysome but the bike was mostly unscathed. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience Karl! Im also kinda scared of transporting my bike through the railways :P
Thanks for letting me know. That service might be better... Especially if they're specialise in transporting bikes and know how to secure them. The railway just dumps them in a carriage to move around during the trip.
Most people who avail the service from Gati recommend being around for the loading of the bike onto the trucks, so as to make sure that you can inspect it, to confirm its not moving around, has ample security ties holding the bike in place, and that additional things are not kept on top of the bike. The transportation costed 7k from DEL to BLR and took 2 days, I had to pay an additional 1k to the packing guys to make sure they pack and secure the bike well. Hope this helps! 😄
I shipped my himalayan once and it was a horrific experience. I packed and submitted my bike and delivery office person said my bike will be shipped in the next train and asked me to not worry. So, i left the station and reached my destination by bus. oh the bike scratches were sort of heart breaking. Also the lack of some wooden ramp to take off train and change of train is totally yikes. Thanks for taking this endeavor and convincing us not to do it :|
Thanks for sharing, I had no idea bikes could get this damaged. I guess a better option would be to just make the trip by bike, book a hotel on the way and take a nights rest in between to beat the heat. It's probably equal to going out in the heat to get the bike packed, going to all those photocopy shops, walking to the petrol bunk and more. Plus it might even work out to being cheaper considering the cost of bike repairs as well.
33:46 well i work at a petrol station myself and it's also BPCL, I don't think it's possible to fill without resetting to zero, because as soon as you put the nozzle back it resets to zero, that's how the system is designed. The only work around is to fill straight out after filling someone else, but the chances are almost zero, as most people will ask for a fixed amount like 100, 200, 500, etc. So the delivery person has to put the nozzle back, I don't think you are scammed. If you come down South to Kerala I can show you around how things work in a fuelling station. The systems are designed to avoid scamming, so again it's very rare. Cheers!
@@VinayakP the old ones are getting replaced, now bpcl and I'm assuming other companies will have regulations too, that dispensing units must have automation, that's you can check the fuel using the computer installed by bpcl, even they can monitor it.
I take my bike as luggage and book a train ticket from its starting station up till its end station. In Luggage you can make sure the bike is properly loaded and as the train is from the starting station you get ample of time to load the bike, place it properly or tie it inside the luggage compartment. And then move to your seat.
Looks like so much fun over in india... stressful at times but fun. Also do you recon you could get away with only speaking english and going to india and is google translate accurate?
Never taking my bike on the train then, cheers Karl 😉 Petrol, stay at a hotel and food for the road trip back home would come cheaper and at less risk than this whole process along with the headaches that came with it.
it would be a nightmare boarding from a station other than the originating one. Or getting down anywhere before last station. In between stops are very short.
I feel your pain, but it is a bold man willing to ship his bike anywhere in the world. It would cause you to lose about a year of life just because of the hassle and worry, I would think. You think Greyhound or Amtrak in the US would do it any better? The US postal service lost an entire boxful of my books once, some of which I hve never been able to replace. The insurance money was almost a second reminder of the loss. And as for touts and scammers, I have been gypped in the Czech Republic, in Paris, the UK, and several times in the US.
I was once moving from Gurgaon to Bangalore. I didn't have a bike, but a cycle. I just asked about the process of transporting it by train and decided to gift my cycle to a friend in Gurgaon. A cycle was not worth so much of hassle. This whole process is so needlessly bureaucratic and inefficient. Like how difficult is it for the railways to keep a few portable ramps around to easily load and unload the bikes?
To anyone reading comments: "Photocopy/photostat is a big business in Jammu or in general near railway stations/Govt offices in India. So it is always better to take photocopies beforehand of all the possible documents. Otherwise, you end up paying even 100 times more than the normal price." For example, 1rs per copy to 100rs per copy.
This current Government will spent their money on big projects but never try to improve the things which already exist. Upon that railway staff is under lots of pressure because of vacant posts since government doesn't even fill up the vacant post in railway.
It is economical, but the system sucks. I would rather ride the bike back home than use the train or other mode of transport. Transport trucks are also an option, but that's too expensive and have more chances of damaging the bike, as they load goods on top of each other. The porter/coolies are unprofessional at handling bikes, I have noticed from my experience.
Hey Karl you could have keep a rubber pipe and small plastic bottle with you in your hand bag. After reaching Delhi you can ask anyone at the station or parking to give small amount of patrol from their bike. 99% people will oblige you specially if you are a foreigner and a youtuber too.
Back in 2018 I had shipped my himalayan from my home town bhopal to Jammu while I was going to do the ladhak circuit. Since I knew the parcel agent at my home town, he charged me some *side fee* and the bike was loaded with me in the same train. In the return I transported my bike from Chandigarh to Bhopal , since I didn't knew anyone in Chandigarh the bike was delayed for almost a month . I got my bike back almost 36 days later from the date of booking that too after endless argument at the parcel office. At the end I got to know the bike had reached bhopal within 2 weeks after booking and they had somehow not registered the parcel after receiving it and thought that chandigarh railway had still not sent the bike . For a moment I had thought that my bike had been stolen. It was a nightmare bringing it back. So I had both good and bad experience with the Indian railways.😅
New Delhi Railway station is Scam Central Karl. If you were arriving at a station in any smaller city, things would be a lot more pleasant. If you can, you should shift out of Delhi. Chandigarh would be a great option.
Crazy how simple everything is. They don't even have a ramp on the train for the bikes. The bikes are not secured on the train with some straps. The guy at the wrapping sucks the fuel up with his mouth into plastic bottles. They do this every day, why not make life easier? Or do they have some kind of "hard work is honest work" mentality?
Karl, its always reassuring to have a gps device in your bike. I parceled my bike from Bangalore to north India and yes it was chaos and my bike had minor damages (also there is no way of claiming railway insurance) but with my GPS device (Ajjas gps device and app) I could keep track of my bike. You can also stick in an airtag or samsung tag and track it that way
Don’t the gas pump zero out instantly like they do in the US as soon as you hang up the lever it should zero out and should start from zero when you pick it up. I don’t see how they could possibly have a ride that they made that way.
Considering all you went through, i would prefer to drive two days from like 5 am to 10 am, then stop somewhere nice, then the next morning again, for the same price

I am from Jammu and 3 months back, i shipped my bike from Jammu to New Delhi. They promised me that they would fully wrap it, but it was not right. They took the petrol from the bike and told me to fill it back from a petrol pump near Delhi station. And here comes the scam, they took a separate amount for the bike wrap around 700 rupees and when i received the bike at delhi, there were some people who will help u in taking the bike out of the station to the nearest petrol pump, but in the middle he will say that if you pay him more, he will take the bike to petrol pump, but when i first asked him, he guarantee me for 300 for the petrol pump. At the end i had to pay him around 600 just to take the bike to the nearest petrol pump. It's a fuckin scam, no matter how but always carry 1 litre petrol with you whenever u parcel the bike i know it's illegal but such scams and the mood fuckup are even worse
I love how basically every guy in India’s ‘walking around town’ outfit consists of wearing cargo shorts; a polo shirt with a popped collar; Birkenstocks, sunglasses; a gold watch and having their keys in their hands when walking around town haha 😆
I had my royal Enfield bullet shipped by train from Pune to Jaipur. They did pretty much the same but with sacks filled with hay then tied around the bike. I didn't know at the time they would fill a whole container full of motorbikes, like if they were boxes stacked ontop of each other then rolled out the door at the end. 😢
You can make a video on Railway Claims Tribunal established for claims related to damages to any goods parceled through railways. Many people would come to know about such mechanism. I would help if you need any help with the research.
I sent my bike through indian railways and they bent my entire handle and broke the indicator. It cost me 2 thousand just to get it fixed. It's terrible how they handle bikes, especially costly ones. And the insurance is practically useless because they'll never pay and you'll keep running around.

“Would you do this with your bike in India?” Dude, after watching your videos, you couldn’t pay me to go to India, let alone transport something valuable there. Credit to your disciplined adaptation, but few would watch this and think “oh, that’s for me!”
You couldn't pay me either to go to India. Horrible hygiene, non-stop scammers, and the list goes on. Can't trust anyone and can't trust the food. It's even worse if you are a woman.

Nobody is paying you to go to India just live in your hell hole
People go because it is exciting and rewarding, open up your mind.
@PROGAMING-yu5ef Coming from someone who has traveled to a number of countries, India is exciting to get scammed and your reward is to get food poisioning. There is no correlation between having an open mind and the reality of the situation.
I have parceled my bike many times and never had any problems or damage. Its fabulous and incredibly cheap. You just need to devote 3 hours to get it on
Thanks for commenting
Such a great entertaining vid/documentary/movie, it had information, it was tense, and a happy ending. Loved it ❤️ 🚂 🏍️ 🇮🇳
Adding an apple airtag can be a great help in these scenarios
12:33 leg and pannier guards are mounted to the chassis, so if it does get damaged, the damage will travel to the chassis too 😅
Please go to South India my friend. People are much respectful and you wont be approached by scammers once every 30 seconds. I hope you'll change your mind about India after you visit South India
What South India, have you met Bangalore autowallas?
@@maitahom9958 on an average south indians are much better.
Don't call hard working people scammer, you are using their service they have the right to decide the charges for their services.
Scammer spotted.
Being living in new zealand for 6 plis years was pretty shocking to see that you decided to ride home without putting on the mirrors .
But i dont blame you too as it was indeed a exhausting and stressful experience
oh the bike scratches were sort of heart breaking.
Cheers!
Is that the case with all petrol pumps including old ones? Not just new?
@@VinayakP the old ones are getting replaced, now bpcl and I'm assuming other companies will have regulations too, that dispensing units must have automation, that's you can check the fuel using the computer installed by bpcl, even they can monitor it.
I take my bike as luggage and book a train ticket from its starting station up till its end station. In Luggage you can make sure the bike is properly loaded and as the train is from the starting station you get ample of time to load the bike, place it properly or tie it inside the luggage compartment. And then move to your seat.
love your work karl!
Good morning Karl 🌞 Awesome to see you again my friend 💕 I hope all is well with you and your family 🙏🏻
That Cheap move of getting at least 50% from the petrol is so Indian 😂😂
Where is the bike now and where did the Honda come from?
Karl you did so much hard work for this bike parcel, I guess it would have been fruitful to ride the bike yourself❤
Great video Carl welcome home.🙏🙏
Looks like so much fun over in india... stressful at times but fun. Also do you recon you could get away with only speaking english and going to india and is google translate accurate?
Never taking my bike on the train then, cheers Karl 😉 Petrol, stay at a hotel and food for the road trip back home would come cheaper and at less risk than this whole process along with the headaches that came with it.
Best option is to drive 800 km in two days than this nonsense. Also it would bel somewhat economical too
it would be a nightmare boarding from a station other than the originating one.
I shipped my bike from Hyderabad to Delhi. They delivered it to me after 40 days. Railways are pathetic.
Good point 👍
Karl bhai, you did well in perfect economics, it might take just Rs 100 here and there else it was perfect, kudos
Hey bro... You are complaining... But I would say this is literally the best experience one could get transporting their vehicle via train ever...
heres a question for ya
is the bike now a parcel or a luggage?
To anyone reading comments: "Photocopy/photostat is a big business in Jammu or in general near railway stations/Govt offices in India. So it is always better to take photocopies beforehand of all the possible documents. Otherwise, you end up paying even 100 times more than the normal price." For example, 1rs per copy to 100rs per copy.
How much would it cost to ride your bike and stop at accommodation to avoid the heat . And save the stress of the train
Can the person taking the bike not take of with bike instead of bringing it back to you?
Thanks for your time and resources.
I sat on a scooter once in india and loved it, I want to sit on a motorbike but I'm scared.
Seriously how much does a simple ramp or a plank cost to offload the bikes? its just lack of care at this point.
you are brave. I born in India and never tried something similar
Hope you safe travel ✌️
New Delhi Railway station is Scam Central Karl. If you were arriving at a station in any smaller city, things would be a lot more pleasant.
If you can, you should shift out of Delhi. Chandigarh would be a great option.
Yes I have shipped to and from Chandigarh a number of times. Very quiet
Is your friend not able to watch the bike before it goes
bro, at 850, the guard cuts off the guy behind you. Did you notice that?
Might have been easier to send a porter to get a litre of fuel and bring it back to the station.?
In india fuel station dont usually sell fuel in a water bottles anymore. Specially in metro cities.
I wonder how Karl managed to keep the frustration inside and not snap throughout.
I see you really love India, only way you would put up with any of this and keep going back.
⚠ f* that! I'd rather suffer through the full ride!
Sounds like you should have just made the ride yourself. Whole process seems shady as hell, like all of India
You can always go out of the station to get a bottle of petrol and then come to the station for your bike
Not in India. It's illegal
Considering all you went through, i would prefer to drive two days from like 5 am to 10 am, then stop somewhere nice, then the next morning again, for the same price
Was the charge/price the same whether the bike was on your train or on another??
Hi Karl,
Really informative video. Just my opinion about ur videos. I have been watching ur videos before covid days and I feel now there is always so much negativity you show about india. I stay in Auckland and cherish every minute here however I guess u understand where I am coming from. Your best video I can’t forget was the monkey skin shawl scam video somewhere in J&K. Pls don’t take me otherwise, I truly love ur work but just off late this is what I noted. @
Maybe they should use a ramp to get bikes on and off the train… definitely some smart fellas huh 😅 people don’t think smh
They should have a makeshift ramp to load and unload the bike from the compartment
what kind of service that doesn't have enough workers to pull it off?😅 Ramp?
I love bikes and I love your channel
Man I got a headache watching you parcel the bike and all the fuss that happened...I hope I never have to parcel my bike...
Karl be the guy who plays video games on hardest difficulty
Hahaha I am playing the Dark Souls series for the first time right now! It's hard!
Incredible nightmare.
I love how basically every guy in India’s ‘walking around town’ outfit consists of wearing cargo shorts; a polo shirt with a popped collar; Birkenstocks, sunglasses; a gold watch and having their keys in their hands when walking around town haha 😆
13/06? Are these videos from last year's June?
I never do that mistake. but train transport is better than by road.
Karl none of your videos show or talk about the cash you need to pay to get things done, please can you go into this?
I have done this shit at New Delhi station - receiving my bike in 2018
Aw wow, I would’ve tipped the guy if he didn’t drop my bike. That’s wild. I have never seen a bike on a train like that
I had my royal Enfield bullet shipped by train from Pune to Jaipur.
And the insurance is practically useless because they'll never pay and you'll keep running around.
you should have placed airtag on your bike so you can track it on your phone (Iphone?). I place airtags on checked in luggage on airplanes
Brother... you need to travel with a water backpack, you can add flavors and what not save it for those dire moments
