      Of course.
      However the next best safe is one that not only uses steel but also a special concrete containing corundum and other stuff to not only make it very tough on cutting tools but also armoured against hammering attacks. Most of these US safes doesn't fare very well on the EN1143-1 standard. That said these true safes with steel and concrete construction are also in quite another price and weight class.

    The side armor is still a major concern for buyers who are purchasing a safe for both fire and burglary protection. Of the powered tool attacks, a grinder is a likely candidate. Most gun safes don't have enough armor to provide any level of meaningful protection, and the composite material they tend to use generally isn't the high-density matrix that is intended to damage tooling in an attack. IIRC, Liberty allows armor customizations that go as high as 1/4-inch armor on the side, which is about 3 gauge. This, with a 1/2 inch of solid steel on the door paired with a Group 2 or Group 2M lock, is a good level of armor for a smaller-intermediate level of values, with substantial protection against hand tooled attacks, and very limited protection against powered tool attacks.

    • @jeffstrains4014

      Fort Knox does, liberty's best safe is only 7 gauge with 1/4 plate on door, or 10 with 3/8. I wish they offered more options for steel. The National Security line is your best choice with them. I use to have a Winchester safe the handle broke working in the metal fab world I brought a nibbler home drilled a 3/8 hole cut open all the seams in around 5 mins. Salvaged all 3 sides of sheet metal for other projects... A safes worst night mare is a nibbler unless its at least 3/16 on body..

    Meaningless test with those 90 degrees V shage steel holding "reinforcing"the door frame. If the steel thickness is not greater than 1/4 inch plate steel, it's not a safe, it a RSC, residential security container.
    More than 1/4 plate body and 1/2 inch plate door you just entered B-rate burglary resistant safe level.
    Also, most of these metal box wrap around fire boards have weak door frame, because hey are not solid steel bar stock door frame. What ever the gauge steel thickness, usually 2-3mm range thickness, that's the only thing holding the bolt and dead bolt.

    For the money, these Liberty safes are as good a means of keeping burglars from taking the contents of your safe as anything in the consumer market. But when your safe budget is covered by the government rather than your own income, you can get into MUCH tougher safes that Liberty's pulling fixture can handle. It would probably self-destruct on before getting them open.

      Plasma torch will not cut through concrete insulation or even a fiberglass mat for that matter. Also a plasma torch will not melt/burn everything in the safe. All it takes is a small air gap that the spark cant jump to stop the plasma torch from getting through so by the time you get through the first layer and chip the insulation out you will have accessed the second steel layer and the cops will be outside waiting for you. Safes do not stop the most determined thieves, they merely delay the theft so you have more time for the cops to show up.

    • @Turboy65
      @Turboy65 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Plasma torches don't work in all materials. Plus there are means of resisting thermal attacks. A thick layer of copper in the sandwich construction works well. Load up the copper with chunks of tungsten carbide, boron carbide, even used diamond surfaced indexable cutting inserts, and you have a material that will destroy anything that tries to cut it.
      You're now in the range of a vault that is close to impossible to open without destroying the contents.
      The most certain high tech way to defeat all defenses and not destroy the safe contents is the recirculating diamond wire saw method. If you can bring the safe to the cutting fixture.
      FIrst line of defense...be sure to bolt the safe to the floor with some serious hardware. A safe you can pick up and drag out is just a heavy box full of goodies to be stolen.
