This is the same kayak as the Angler 100. Just a different name. What a great kayak! Very stable, tracks wonderfully, and really glides through the water. So glad that I bought it.
your scriptures you post at the end of each video is one of the main reasons I started watching your video's and the fact your just up the road from me. I love your content, I have watched you fish some of the same places I have fished for years, and seeing you catch fish there makes me smile, you should come over to the race track where I work one weekend and take in a dirt track race just let me know when and your passes are on me. tight lines!
FWIW, my brother used to haul around a small john boat in the back of his pickup with a Johnson motor. He put a winch on the front of his pickup to lower it down a hill probably a little steeper than the one in this video and into the creek.
You made my wife’s day. She loves Cardinals. Unfortunately we moved to the Pacific Northwest 36 years ago. Cardinals have not found their way here. 😄 So I played your video with the Cardinal calls in the sound track for her. She smiled ear to ear. She says, Thank you! Love the way you fish. Did a lot of that in my days in the Carolinas. Miss it so much. Thanks for your great work.
Anytime you get a new ride it's fun. I will say I will say that I have not made the plunge into the kayak industry yet. I have been looking. I have to find something that will fit my budget and what I can and cannot do. Congratulations on the new ride.
Great yak I have one to , I'm waiting for the Mako 10 Versa Dual drive to come out , having a prop and fin drive would be great , use the prop drive in deep water and fin drive in shallow.
always fun taking a new kayak out! first time i took mine was on the james river and i caught a 2 and a half pound largie on a shaky head with a helgramite. but i realized i was so focused on kayaking and fishing i forgot to press record so no video. 😅 this is a dope video love the review at the end too!
It makes sense to acquire whatever you need to put you on the fish. I love the new Kayak. Good luck with it. I just ordered an inflatable fishing Kayak for the middle prong of the little pigeon river where I live. I used to have a Kayak upside down on my couch in my one bedroom apartment. That's why I went with the inflatable. I needed the room for all my rods and guitars anyway!!
I totally know what you mean, when I got my paddleboard I found myself fishing more than when I only had my boat. It opened up more exclusive places to go and was easy to keep in my car so I could just scoot to the lake after work. Sure you don’t have as much space or horsepower but there’s something romantic about the get up and go part about it
Enjoy it while you can in 20 years will not that easy. You also show different kayaks for different situations. Had to use canoes and little johnboats did not have kayaks back then.
The Slayer uses a non-deployable rudder on the bottom that can be damaged when dragging the kayak. You may want to invest in a kayak cart to protect the rudder. I love the Slayer, it is a very practical kayak. You got it for a steal!!!
Nice new Yak brother. Glad you rediscovered the little Roadrunner jigs. Love them for white bass, river walleye, smallies and black bass albeit usually smaller ones. Great little bait, try your Bobby Garland baits on it too. Blessings John
I don't have a pedal drive but I use a anchor with anchor trolley, so I usually just fish downstream like a mile but all along the way I really fish the area good. Also the anchor trolley lets me face any direction I want really easy so I can be pointed upstream, downstream or sideways if there's not any current.
After that Drum hit the bottom of the Kayak, I finally figured out why they are called "Drum". Hope you catch lots of big fish and have a great time with your new kayak. Happy Fishing.
Definitely a perfect little kayak for the creeks and rivers!!! Like we talked about, I'd say you will be more comfortable in the old town fishing the tournaments and stuff....But it worked perfect on that open water the other day as well!!!
Love the content. New subscriber thanks to First State giving you a shout out. I’m in Michigan and getting into creek and river fishing. I’m just starting the Kayak shopping. Thanks for the good information.
I have the same yak and did the seat risers. I kept the stock parts if you want them Ill send them to you. Check out Yakgadget flexrod stager system, it will move your paddle as well as your rods to the side, they are in Smyrna TN.
lot of excuses at the end lol idk i have the 12 ft old town sportsman paddle version. utilize a pull rope and drag the yak. maybe its just me but i will put little more effort getting to the water. to have my comforts of my oldtown. alot of those rapids you walk around i would run them. more time learning to read rivers and time on the water will build your confidence.
Congrats on the yak! Thanks for your insight and dislikes with the new yak. All were good points that need notice especially us yak beginners. Nice catches and waiting for the fish to move into the creeks here in Northern Va. Keep up the videos and providing spiritual thoughts.
Good stuff, John! Was hoping you'd keep going up in that creek as far as you could. I've seen your other videos there and am really curious how far up it goes as it looks like fish haven to me!! :-)
For a pedal drive thats not to bad of price but before you order your risers I would check with a welding shop or someone who tig welds. You might be able to prefab them cheaper then buying them. Just a thought
My 2nd and 3rd current kayak is a native 10ft slayer. The stability is good. No problems standing or leaning on it. Easy to transfer in and out of the truck. You don’t need a trailer or extensions. But seeing you drag that thing made me cringe. If you puncture that thing it’s over. Plus the rudder could be damaged. Overall awesome kayak, worth every penny.
Still debating with myself on my next step up kayak. I like the Old Town pedal but I am considering the 106 as it is lighter and I doubt that I will ever stand up on it, plus I’m 5’7” so I don’t know if my legs are long enough for the 120. My husband is trying to talk me into the motorized one but I don’t know if I want to carry all that weight. He bought himself a raft and trolling motor but I just don’t like rafts.
$1200 is a great price. The Native pedal unit alone sells for that. At risk of stating the obvious, you seem to be sponsored by Old Town. Would they not send you a 10 foot pedal drive to try out?
Great sweatshirt, getting ready to order one. What size are you wearing & how tall are you? I’m 6’-2” 200lbs. Seems like everything is always to short.
I know this is an old video, I just bought the Native Slayer Pro this year and have a super novice question. Would you take that thing down rivers with it having rudders? Rivers as in like the New River around the north part of NC.
Josh look up Gatlin rod holder they are money and your rods all lay flat off the side of kayak you lose no space. Man buy you a kayak dolly it's so much easier..
@@CreekFishingAdventures Perhaps not, but what about this: "There are two species of pike commonly sought by anglers, the muskellunge and the pickerel. The muskellunge occurs as two distinct strains. The first is native to streams in the northern portion of the Cumberland Plateau. It has been reintroduced to several other streams in middle and eastern Tennessee."
im 6-4 about 230 and it is a little on the small size for people like us, i would go with a 12 if i were you, i do like this one in small streams and when i have to move it but can feel a bit small
Hey, So far I've hand one and only one Kayak. It's an Old Town 120 Auto Pilot. So glad that's what I bought. Still happy with it. Wish it was 70 lbs lighter. If I were you, I'd put the tail gate up and strap it down with the nose in the air with a flag. Less likely to get hit that way. People are idiots.
there’s a facebook group for native slayer propel 10 owners - check it out - you will see a lot of the common issues and fixes - mods etc - good for tips and tricks - there a member who 3d prints seat risers for less than 1/2 price of native parts
Shorter means less stable. Myself..i would have stuck with the 12 footer. That thing could b scary in fast moving ripples with curves.Hate to say it but u probably got rid of the better one.

that would be cool
Congrats on the new ride! Haha... that side mirror shot as you pulled away gave me a good laugh! 😁
New kayak for our state park trip Jon!! Wooooooo weeeeeeeeeee
John - I have the exact same kayak! I absolutely love it. Here is an open invite to Southern Indiana to fish. Keep on, brother!
We aren't far from each other man, let's go fishing!
FWIW, my brother used to haul around a small john boat in the back of his pickup with a Johnson motor. He put a winch on the front of his pickup to lower it down a hill probably a little steeper than the one in this video and into the creek.

I thought you were going for a swim when you were getting into your new ride! Well done.
Great yak I have one to , I'm waiting for the Mako 10 Versa Dual drive to come out , having a prop and fin drive would be great , use the prop drive in deep water and fin drive in shallow.
Lighter kayaks are usually thinner made and wear down and get holes quicker than most
Nice video, looks like more ideal Kayak for sure. With all the different hills and creeks going in and out of. Congratulations on the new addition.

i want to try kayaking that section

I enjoy the evolution of your channel. Keep growing...
Love the new boat! I want one! Great video!
It’s always a good day when you get new gear or equipment! Awesome video buddy! I will continue to show my support! CFA at its finest 👊🏻
Great first trip
You will love it . I have the same one . Same camo pattern. I took mine 5 miles out on the ocean. Panama City Beach.

I miss fishing creeks with light gear. I need to get my kayak ready too!
Nice new 'yak, John. You will enjoy that one. Some good fish, too.
Love the content. New subscriber thanks to First State giving you a shout out. I’m in Michigan and getting into creek and river fishing. I’m just starting the Kayak shopping. Thanks for the good information.
That was my biggest thing, having a light pedal kayak. I have to put whatever I have on top of my Jeep. Great video man. 👍👍
Right on!
Another great video my friend. Nice new yak!!
When you said it had a lamprey on it that means raw sewage is being spilled into that lake or that body of water take a sample of it.
We have lampreys in a lot of rivers around here. Even the clean mountain streams
I have the same yak and did the seat risers. I kept the stock parts if you want them Ill send them to you. Check out Yakgadget flexrod stager system, it will move your paddle as well as your rods to the side, they are in Smyrna TN.
thanks i will check that out
Great video and congrats John love to see your channel growing
A road runner is one of my confidence baits
Throw like a bobby garland on em they catch crappie and bluegill non stop
Love Roadrunners - I stick with the smaller sizes, and I catch everything from bream to sac-a-lait to bass and, at least once, a skipjack.
Here!
Been fishing out of a Slayer 10 for a few years. The rudder control will likely be the 1st thing you'll need to fix or replace.

yeah its definitely expensive
Nice kayak 👍 wish I had a light one mine weighs about 90 lbs
The Native weighs 81 with drive and seat.I have the same yak and its well over 100 rigged!
Just remember lighter one means thin hull and less stable, but it is nice when you have to get them in and out of hard places to get to
Working on my own version of your life. LOL thanks for the inspiration today!
The best places are usually the hardest to get too. 😂 Nice kayak!
big fish, small boat is the best combo
Congrats on the yak! Thanks for your insight and dislikes with the new yak. All were good points that need notice especially us yak beginners. Nice catches and waiting for the fish to move into the creeks here in Northern Va. Keep up the videos and providing spiritual thoughts.

i didnt want to cross the log this time, its hard to go much further than that
New vest? Looks good.
What all is in it?

yeah i probably am going to drag it a lot to get it into the places i want, i think it will hold up fine,

Great purchase man, congrats.

i think the 106 is probably a good choice
Hell yeah man. Nice kayak
Nice yak man . It's all I can do to drag myself back up that hill
John, I have watched you stand up in the 12' & this one. You are way more steady standing in the larger kayak.
yeah the old town 12 ft is certainly more stable
Money 💰 🤑 💸 in the hand 🤘 Sweet!!!!!
Was there an up charge for the milk crate? lol. Some times you have to get creative
$1200 is a great price. The Native pedal unit alone sells for that.
At risk of stating the obvious, you seem to be sponsored by Old Town. Would they not send you a 10 foot pedal drive to try out?
they sent me a kayak for free, no other strings attached
Get a 5 or 6 ft pole and put a hook on the end and that will save you having to bend over while sliding it downhill. It will be more safer also.
what do you think of the differences of the Old Town and the Native
Nice Kayak John it should help you get though some narrow spots you fish sir. God bless you and your family and friends....🙏❤🙏❤🙏😀🙂😊
It's a Slaya', Playa' !
And I did subscribe to Chris a while back I seen him with that big old one the other day he couldn't hardly hold it. LOL
I think that that was and Gare.
Awesome kayak i want a new one so pedal drive it is for me love the fishing please kill the lampreys i wonder if they work for cutbait for catfish
I was genuinely sad 😥 at the beginning for some unknown reason !!
Where I’m at they’re called sand bass or sandies
Nice yak!
The larger the boat, the more stable (standing up). You might wish to have a larger one after some time with this one.
im glad i already have a larger one
I would bet money on a longnose gar being the bait thief. They love to run as soon as they grab it.
Some day I would like to try a good kayak ma lol
I fish a 10’6” Perception Pro 100. No pedal drive. You’ll find that big fish will pull you around
Kast king makes portable fishing rids my 7 ft1 med hvy casting rod is 19 inches collapsed great action , spinning too many actions
Shorter means less stable. Myself..i would have stuck with the 12 footer. That thing could b scary in fast moving ripples with curves.

im 6-4 and where xlarge
How's the stability on the 10'?
I know this is an old video, I just bought the Native Slayer Pro this year and have a super novice question. Would you take that thing down rivers with it having rudders? Rivers as in like the New River around the north part of NC.
Just kinda worried about the rocks maybe hitting the rudder and wanted to know how you think it would hold up.
Yes, absolutely i did it in this one and never hurt anything
you had to return the sponsored yak?
no, going to use it this weekend
Josh look up Gatlin rod holder they are money and your rods all lay flat off the side of kayak you lose no space.
Man buy you a kayak dolly it's so much easier..
Why aren't Nico hellgrammites on Amazon prime I can't afford them unless they are
The fish that broke you off, most likely, was an eastern chain pickerel (a.k.a. "jack fish").
we dont have them around here
@@CreekFishingAdventures Perhaps not, but what about this: "There are two species of pike commonly sought by anglers, the muskellunge and the pickerel. The muskellunge occurs as two distinct strains. What does your kayak weigh? I just bought the hobie lynx it’s only 45lbs.
wow, i think it is 60 without the drive, i might have to look into those
How big are you? Is the 10ft good for you?. The reason I'm asking is that I'm 6'4" 275.
im 6-4 about 230 and it is a little on the small size for people like us, i would go with a 12 if i were you, i do like this one in small streams and when i have to move it but can feel a bit small
@@CreekFishingAdventures thank you sir.
Oh yeah and you sir still have all the fish. I've got nothing in this part of California

Another Kayak?
Sounds like you should have kept the old town.
i did
Shorter means less stable. Myself..i would have stuck with the 12 footer. That thing could b scary in fast moving ripples with curves.Hate to say it but u probably got rid of the better one.
When that one snapped you off I thought you broke your Pole
I want a pedal kayak. But there all are out of my price range
BooYah!!
Hi
Should have worn the muck boots. 😂
Put it in diagonally. Won't hang over at all.
He who has many kayaks has more to things to worry about.
