Nashwans half brother and one of the best horses never to win a group one, he would have been a very good four year old until injury cut his career short, thanks for uploading.

Still to this day I am mystified what happened in the Derby, because Unfuwain proved subsequently that he was by far the best horse in the Derby. Routed good class opposition here, was a very good 2nd in the King George to Mtoto and then 4th in the Arc when he was the first 3 year old to finish. In fact after the Derby he wasn't beaten by a horse of his own generation.

Agree, especially as he had already proven he handled Epsom with a runaway win in the trial there

@sleeplessinsale I think Carson was swayed to ride Minister Son because he bred him. He would go on to win the St Leger later in the season. Unfuwain was a very good colt and should of won a Group 1. Like you say, no explanation given for his poor showing in the Derby and then he comes out and does this.

@@MEECHIO Maybe he just didn't handle the track under different conditions and with a large number of horses, but there's no doubt that he was one of the best horses never to win at the highest level.

@@MEECHIO his back was injured. He did win a trial at Epsom but it was against very mediocre opposition even then at a slower pace he didnt handle Tattenham Corner and din't handle Chester either even tho he won by 15l

No, Newbury's Saturday card usually clashed with the FA Cup final and wasn't broadcast.

This was his return to the track after he was injured in the Derby.
God knows why they ran him in the Epsom Derby as he had run there before and clearly didnt act on the course.
He should have by passed Epsom and been aimed at the Irish Derby IMO

I believe Unfuwain won very easily when he ran at Epsom, it was a Derby trial.
