    Simplicity is the essence of engineering. You captured it there.

    An even lighter version of this would be to pull your boxers up wedgie style, and prop it up with two sticks.

    When I was a kid, we'd hike around with an old bread bag, folded up, in our back pocket. Gave you something to sit on when you needed a break and you had something to put the mushrooms in, should you happen upon some.
    However, that chair is a pretty nice replacement for the old bread bag.
    I really like that design....may have to make something like that for myself.
    Thanks for showing us that, Paul. =)

    You know, with how ridgid that is, your could build a back pack around your seat and use it as a kind of pack frame. Just an idea for a new project.

    Okay... WOW factor (for someone who HATES camping chairs!) x 200%. Add it to a tiny boat and the concept (IMHO) goes off the scale... BTW, I’m slowly designing a small sailboat lightly based on your awesome tiny wood electric boat (with two or even three short keels to replace the long daggerboard/ keel for shallow water among other things). Have you ever built a tiny sailboat? Could you find a way to include a cabin in something under 9’ or even 7’? I’d really like to see what you could come up with! Heck, such a boat with a shelter on the water might make lake camping a thing for everyone! I love kayaking and flying airplanes, but sometimes a small warm place on the water with a fish on the stove and a warm roof over my head in a cold rainstorm beats a hammock in a gentle tropical breeze, especially when warm tropical breezes are months and miles away!

    • @paulwelkinsdiy
      @paulwelkinsdiy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've thought of making a boat with a cabin but wonder about the side-wind factor in such a small boat. I might try it some day. Would love to see what you come up with. Like your channel as well, and your brother's dog fight video! Cheers!

    It would be interesting to make something similar with a tree serving as a support as opposed to the poles. Leaning against a tree on it's own is okay, but unless it has a buttressed base the hard 90 degree angle and round shape makes it uncomfortable after a while. Of course you could just look around and find a suitable tree eventually or just use a hammock, which would render the whole thing useless.

  • @wojomojo

    Nice! DId you end up using the full width of an election board, and where did you get the material for the tension pole?

    • @paulwelkinsdiy
      @paulwelkinsdiy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I actually went with a lengthwise section instead of across from some old scrap I had. The 24" long poles are made from halving a 4ft length of 1/2" diameter aluminum tubing purchased at at a home improvement store. The stubs where they join came from some aluminum scrap I had.The stubs were glued to the ends.
