Dirt Devil Dynamite Upright Vacuum

- Here I'm showing is my Dynamite that I own in my collection. I got this vacuum about 3 years ago from the thrift store for about $15. The only problem with it when I got this, it was completely clogged in the hose, and it was missing a filter. But other than that, it was still in like brand new condition when I got this, it looked like it was only used a few times. I simply wiped it down, put a new filter, and a new belt on. Now this vacuum works amazingly! I've always liked the looks of these when they first came out and have always wanted one as well. I actually used to have a neon green version of this one before but it had motor problems, and the wheels kept falling off. I ended up getting rid of it just because it wasn't worth fixing up and that was one of my biggest regrets so I was glad that I was able to grab this one but I overall liked the green version the best. Compare to my Optima, this does clean carpets better but I overall prefer the Optima because it's quieter, easier to push, and grooms the carpets better. Overall, I'd say this is a decent vacuum. Powerful suction and airflow from this really impressive 7 amp motor, and really strong agitation. My only downfalls with this is that it's a little harder to push, the wheels like to come off which that's another thing that I like about the Optima better, and this has poor filtration despite saying that it's HEPA.

Original Hepa filters are like $40.00 Canadian for these things.
It just sat for years (LIKE NEW CONDITION) until I looked at it yesterday and decided to see if it would still work.
Ordered no name filters off of amazon yesterday (4 filters for $18.00) and they arrived today.
Finished cleaning it up and turned it on.
All I can say is DYNOMITE!

I bought one for my Granddaughter when she was 4, at Walmart,$40. Still works after 13 years. Not our main vacuum, but, it works great

No, a real vacuum would be like one of those professional commercial grade ones.
I had one my self. They were alright. One thing that I don’t like is the noise but that applies for every dirt devil.
There were some Dirt Devils that weren't as loud like the MVP's for example.
Yeah the Deluxes/MVPs we’re definitely quiet and had a pleasant tone to them.
Mine is not to loud but it depends on the model I think

Um technically no. Consumers would always complain of having a loud vacuum (myself included) so companies are trying their hardest to avoid that issue. Miele is one example that's done an excellent job of having quieter vacuums.
I got one of these it is purple and black I really enjoy it I used to have an old Kirby Sentra and this is a lot simpler and easier to use I bought it new in early 2010 I think
These things don't agitate the carpet, it practically beats the crap out of it lol
It does agitate the carpet I have 8 of them I know
These vacs agitate really well if it is an older one
One of my family members used to have it but it was too old to work anymore

Ahhh the déjà vu! I (or technically my mom) had this back in 2011! when I was born.I used to be so scared of this thing. Then when I was 2/3 I started to like it. Then one day I went to my cousins house when I was 3 and saw a toy dirt devil junior. I really liked it. My mom got me one too. After that I began my vacuum obsession. We gave away the dirt devil. Where can I buy it again?
Second hand stores, online like eBay or Craigslist, curb side or dumpsters, etc.

The Dynamite and Dynamite Plus looks like an updated version of the original broom vac upright.

Yeah, they basically share models for lots of brands like Vax, Hoover, Hart, Ryobi and etc.
Loud as hell but its very powerful just wish it had attachments
The Dynamite Plus had attachments.

No. This is one of the reasons why I don't recommend buying cheap vacuums or anything sold through department stores.

i remember that the cord hooks was were the hose went it was just the hose peace for the floor head but no hose connected to it for the suction
The plus models (084650 series) had a hose and attachments
I think I am getting the green model you mentioned in the description, the whole machine is a light green color, and that black part on the front of the base is bigger, is that the one you had? Or was yours the version with the black handle and body that had just a green base and dust cup?
The whole thing was lime like this one.

These things were so popular when they were around. The new compact vacuums are crap, this is probably the best compact vacuum in the budget range out there
Meh, these have so many design flaws to where if these were still being made today, I wouldn't recommend them. I could name some others that are better than this like the Hoover Nano Lite for example.
The do have a few flaws like the wheels falling of and the filtration but they do preform well for how cheap they were
For low pile carpets, they do a decent job. I remember my neighbors had one of these that I was using to clean their house with and I had a nightmare with it because it was hard to push with it on their medium pile carpets. I had to switch over to using their Sanitaire which I didn't know they had til the end of my vacuuming to finish the house with it because I got tired of using the Dynamite.
Yeah they are quite hard to push and it doesn't help when the wheels constantly fall off but on low pile they are great
At least it's better than not having a vacuum cleaner.

It depends on which type of area rugs. Shags would probably be the hardest to deal with because they are not pleasant to push on.

I think they do, I'm not exactly sure because it's been a while since I last took this apart but I think the last time that I've seen it, it must've been from Lamb which is a division of Ametek. And I would say close to mid 2000's when these first came out at.

Why do the motors in these last much longer then the motors dirt devil puts in their newer uprights
That's because Dirt Devil contracted with Ametek Lamb to make motors for their vacuums until they were able to afford making their own motors.
Ameteks sounded so badass.

Oh man that's a tough one, I have used lots of bad ones. Probably the Dirt Devil Ultra which is the one I would have more complaints about.

Mine still picks up dirt but somethings happened where it's VERY loud..suggests impellor fan (?). Where can I still get one for this model?
You can find a replacement motor on eBay.
I found one in a special needs room and they had this too but it was covered in dust and the handle was broken and the cord was chopped
