  • Bought silicone grease due to reading on how to get rid of squeak from hatch in my Rav4 - turns out it has many uses. In this video I show how to improve your car windows if they are slow or noisy with some silicone grease.

    ... been using silicone spray for over 40 years, started with the bicycle chain and the shotgun ... I spray under the car all rubber bushings, rings & wiring, engine bay belts, hoses, wiring, inside the car most vinyl and plastic, and all window rubber seals inside & out... works great, does not conduct electricity, cleans, dries and protects ... had not occurred to try it on the windowsills, so thanks ... keep in mind different brands are different types, most sort of feel thick and greasy and stay wet and smell, others are thin and dry up clear right away and don't smell, which I prefer and use for the insides of the car ... there's even a food grade spray, but don't ask me what for ...

    I would wipe off any excess, especially if it gets on your paint. But it's great for windows.

    Very good video sir. But at 4:22, the passenger's window is still noisy. Maybe if you add in a bit of silicone grease to stop it.

    First test them on your fingers. You want the ones that stay wet and do not dry up. Have used that kind of silicone spray since the early 70s. The stuff that dries up does not last long at all nor works well.

      Wat do you recommend then?

    • @georgecurtis6463
      @georgecurtis6463 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@whiteshark2060 I rarely use it anymore and brands and formulas change. So again, need to spray some on a surface or on your fingers. See if it stays in a slight liquid film or it dries up to a dry slippery film. Yes, some folks prefer the dry and that's ok but you will need to apply it more often. I have some 8 year old can but it seems to not work at well anymore. So again, if a wet film is left, that's what you need. In my shop we used a professional brand from wurth.

      @@whiteshark2060 well, with windows and motors, that is another ball game. On cars I worked on, one of our problems was that the window regulator would actually bend. Not easy to see but the arm would twist. Or the basic frame would twist and the teeth would not mesh. So at times it's just looking closely and known good parts and compare. Sadly, not easy at times.

      @@georgecurtis6463 as u mentioned it my regulator had a bend to it a slight arch I asked a mechanic and he said it’s ok I got some silicone lubricant and sprayed the rubber for the windows but only a slight improvement in speed can the problem actually be the bend/arch in the regulator? Will the window open and close with better speed if I straighten it out also do I put lubricant on the regulator?
