Both Matt and the doctor are played by the same person in the English dub; a stage actor from Ireland. Apparently he was given very little to go off of when he did his takes and some of his voice work was altered in post. This is probably why Matt doesn't react properly to his surroundings and why the doctor sounds weirdly flat. I hope he gets a chance to shine in a project that has better voice direction. I feel like it would've been better if they stuck to the original Spanish VAs and used translated subtitles. Maybe they gave more attention to the native VAs.
Yeh I feel kinda bad for the VAs of these games sometimes… I’ve seen SO many of them in the comment sections of LPs … and most ppl have little to no understanding of what it entails for the devs and the VAs or how it really works. The two characters voices are so distinct but really very different…I’d consider that to be a good job in itself ya know? Most of the time the VAs have zero context so it can be extremely difficult to use the proper emotions without them .
The best part of watching these playthroughs is when something ridiculous happens in the game and John just turns and looks at the camera like "are you actually seeing this shit too?!"
Ya know, when I was younger, I was really open to the idea of fully voiced protagonists in video games, but as I’ve gotten older, I see why it’s a problem. Especially when the character comments on every single thing you interact with and the environment, and it’s the same exact line of dialogue. It can be done right if enough effort and time is put into it, and depending on the video game’s general direction, like Dragon Age, but it’s much more immersive with a silent protagonist. I don’t want to gripe too much about the voice acting, because I much prefer not so great voice acting from those who are actually trying, vs those who don’t give any effort at all.
Completely agree. I think they should stick the voice acting to cutscenes only , and all interactions simply have a caption at the bottom. Makes it much more enjoyable that way

The “monster” is called Evil. This game is also different between platforms. Like in mine, on ps4, there was a centipede on the table wrapped around a key. You had to use salt, oddly, to kill it.

Played this with my Girlfriend watching and it slayed me. The fact you can examine the toilet, figure that you'll have to fish something out, but then take a piss anyways and have to dig around in your own piss.
From a game design perspective, it would make sense to have the player unlock the ladder, even when the stairs are right there, if the monsters could follow you up the stairs but not the ladder.

Absolutely, I'd rather prefer those puzzles when the character flat out refuses to take the item from the toilet bare handed and you have to use another item to reach for it. Even if is a ridiculous puzzle, is still better than these dirty losers (?)

This game has nice graphics and it functions pretty well, but omg the ideas and the voice acting make it so funny... I can't help but giggle when I watch.
These are my favorite, the ones that are well made in some ways and then god awful in others. Its always such a unique journey of visceral reaction. Lol also reminding me a ton of Igor with John Cusak with all the "Eva - Evil" stuff.

I didn't expect this game to remind me of terrible flash horror games from 10-plus years ago where keys and drawers were critical puzzle elements and the creator was using a game as a vehicle for their Silent Hill short story ideas, but here we are.
There was more gameplay in the toilet sequence than in the entire game. 10/10. John's recitation of the "pain" letter gave me such pure joy. True voice acting.
