Hiya! This is totally fascinating - I'm experimenting with tissue culture for the first time, and so this is super exciting to see. Can't wait to see an update on these ones 💚

Chimera violets have to be propagated from bloom stalks or tissue from the true stem of the plant (not petioles or leaves) to reproduce true to type. This makes it much more time consuming to reproduce lots of these plants and would be a good use of tissue culture with violets. Chimeras are more expensive and less available for this reason.

Hi there, nice vid! Is the quality of the jars/lids an important issue? Do plastic do as well as glass, etc? Thanks.

Here is South Korea. I have tried invitro cultures of African Violet. However, within 1 week the explants all seem to brown and die. I don't know what the reason is. In my lab, the tissue culture of Cattleya seeds or buds is doing very well, but It's strange that African Violet doesn't work.

I have had the same thing happen to me. I started cleaning the African violet leaves in 5% bleach solution instead of 10% bleach solution. I think a 10% bleach solution can be too abrasive for African violets and cause the tissue to die. I am trying to tissue culture orchids this weekend for the first time so it’s good to hear you have had a successful experience with cattleya buds
