As of now it’s 16 years ago this video was posted. Looking at this today it’s still flying, it’s raining, sleeting, and it’s still a good landing. Thanks GM for letting us come along.

It was a great landing. The runway is sloping away from you as you flair. Then, half way down, it's suddenly rising up to meet you. Don't forget the downdraft at the center of the runway if you have a strong wind from the right hitting the side of the mountain. This can be a very tricky airport with the winds, elevation, and a +/- 2.0 degree gradient.

AN MU-2. I taped it myself with a digital camera mounted to the glareshield. Check out some of my other videos for more looks at the actual airplane.

Starting from episode 1 again. Can't get enough of the P1D! Love your videos.

Ah, this brings back fond memories of the old runway. I have been flying in/out of Telluride since '96 and have over 200 TO/L's there -- everyone of them was a thrill; but, the days like this were the most challenging!

High density altitude plus warm temperatures makes for high true airspeeds. That accounts for some of the perceived speed in the video.

Things have changed in 13 years. Both the plane and the editing have improved! I lived in Colorado Springs for 7 years, and those storms always created the greatest rainbows after they passed. Can't say I miss flying through them...

That is one runway you don't want to come up short on! Great job! I white knuckled it just watching!

BUT...any landing after which the aeroplane is reusable...is a GREAT landing!! I've landed many times at KTEX in a B200 King Air, arguably a much easier aircraft to "grease on" than the MU-2, and landing there is tricky! Wind and thermals make it a challenge every time. Considering environment and aircraft, that was much better than even a great landing - I'd call it superb.
Just discovered your aircraft videos - some GREAT interesting locations and an interesting aircraft!

The first time I saw this video I thought you must have been carrying a lot of speed because it seemed like you floated forever. Then I saw another of your videos of you taking off in the MU-2 and noticed how much grade there is. It's always fun chasing a runway down hill wondering if you're ever going to catch it. ;-) Oh, and LOVE the Rice Rocket....great aircraft.

Very interesting. Between the lighting, rain, diminished visibility, and the fact that I could tell you were losing altitude in the mountains on the approach, I was nervous just watching.

I remember landing there. The shear right when you come over the cliff can be impressive. Is that why it seems like a fast landing? I think we dropped 20-30 feet. If none of the passengers hurl when landing at Telluride, that's better than a great landing.

It’s landings like these that emphasize how important it is to check the landing gear/tires when you preflight. Very little margin of error, if you come in a bit too hot and need to take off again for a go-around a flat tire can make for a very bad day.

Big money.......................for that...................I bet the airplane needed a clean anyway! You didn't even need the wipers on! Good video and nice landing.................as someone else said you can even reuse the airplane.

I've recently started watching and following your videos...and started from the beginning. I'm beginning my private license this coming week or next based on our local weather. Speaking of that, I've always wondered and this video prompts more interest, how does rain not impact turbine performance?
Probably something simple since the turbine is operating on pressure and temperatures, but it still boggles me.
Thanks for your videos...I feel like if I wasn't a stubborn young punk in my teens, I might already be flying cool aircraft like yours today.
    Safe travels.

Nice job for landing at one of the worst airports in the world to land at. Now to see the paint on this MU-2, I have three in the SIM world but have moved up to the more favorable King Air Series C90 GTx and 350i. Thanks Greg, I have a ways to go to get through your library of video. I appreciate the cockpit views.

I used to land there all the time during every ski/hunting season and i hated it. Loads of ski and hunting equipment (weight you don't want!) and a crappy bent-down-in-the-middle, downhill runway with a nice big gap between the top of a hill and the runway beginning where the winds can tumble around. We couldn't do it unless the entire bowl was clear.
5:43 I can attest to the fact that pilots do not get the big money. They do not even get the little money.

    • @gregmink
      @gregmink  3 ปีที่แล้ว

a few years back they did a major rework on the runway. Check out some of my newer videos flying into there and you can see the difference.

I would imagine the MU-2 is not the easiest plane to land considering its speed on approach and such small control surfaces... I've been in one and watched the pilots land... their hands and feet move around quite a bit.

They have a bad reputation they don't deserve. I've had plenty of ice on it and not a problem. Lots of inaccurate information out there about the plane perpetuated by people who don't know the facts.
