Normally I’m in the bigger is better camp. This is the exception. I prefer the Weber a bit more, quality being the deciding factor. Thx Tom, greetings from Germany this week. 😊
Hey Tom I've never had either one of these little Dude's but I definitely would choose your indirect plate as the winner! Think I'd like the Old Smokey for the taller lid......tough choice!
The best portables I have found are 1) Weber Jumbo Joe, 2) Oklahoma Joe's Rambler and 3) Weber Go anywhere. I have not used the Chargriller Akorn JR, but it looks good too.
I’ve done beer can chicken on my OS 14. The grill grates are made overseas. Everything else is USA made. The steel is aluminized. The handles are the wood are grown and manufactured for OS somewhere in New England, I don’t recall if it is NH, VT or ME. I don’t know where the fasteners (nuts and bolts) are made. The sheet steel is American and come to factory in Houston in big rolls. It stamped cut in to shape at the Houston TX, factory. Top and bottom, legs, charcoal plat and vent doors all made in the small 100+ year old factory Houston. The machines the use to make them predate WWII. Seriously they are Great Depression era, some of the equipment dates to the 1920’s. It is very cool old factory. Can’t wait to see you use the OS 14.
I love my Go Anywhere. I just bought a riser / rotisserie for it and just smoked a 4lb corned beef that came out fantastic. Tomorrow Rotisserie chicken.

@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ I live in west Louisiana about a two hour drive away from Houston, TX. We like them around these parts!
Awesome I love my Old Smokey rigs. I have both. I am taking the 14” OS. More room
@Jimbocue Thanks for watching Jim! Appreciate the feedback
Old Smokey all the way. I live in Texas and the OS was my first grill.
Thanks for watching Bill! Appreciate the feedback
How would you compare the Weber Smokey to the Go Anywhere? I would like to see a video on that.
Thanks for watching Mark! Good idea!

@JoeAnshien Thanks for watching Joe! Appreciate the feedback
Even without your great mods, the Weber. It is better built, and the legs stand out wider for stability!
Thanks for Watching James! Appreciate the feedback
Tom, I just looked at the Old Smokey website and was wondering if you knew anything about their electric smoker?
Thanks for Watching Stephen! I do not
I have a lot of respect for a company that still makes things in the USA. I would not buy a Weber product made in China, just my own view.
Thanks for Watching Fred! I agree
The Weber had me by 4:10.
Thanks Ted!
Temp gauge is a must but the daisy wheel is a big downgrade
Thanks for watching!
Never heard of the ol smokey.
It’s a classic! Thanks for watching
