Everybody thinks "balls to the wall" is dirty. It isn't. It's an old military term to refer to "full throttle" in aircraft. The throttles had ceramic or plastic balls at their end, and when you pushed them all the way forward, "to the firewall" the engine was going at full throttle.
It's not only an old military term, it's a somewhat common modern idiom.
I’m pretty sure this song is in reference to the phrase some cops use to say before they searched you. That’s why you see all the people up against the wall in the video, it’s the stance a cop will usually want you in while they search you.
Udo would've been the perfect replacement for Brian Johnson in AC/DC when he was out for a while

This song was somewhat of a premonition of things to come...as someone else said, it was a bit of a political statement. You may not be too familiar with the Berlin Wall and the Cold War...at the time, Russia was a country INSIDE the USSR...Berlin was split in two, between east and west. Accept (a German band) released the album 'Balls to the Wall' in 1983...it was kind of a battle cry in those days...and 6 years later, the Berlin Wall fell. Oh yeah, if you want to hear another amazing Accept song, check out 'Restless and Wild' (from the album of the same name). That song broke them onto the scene after years of hard work.

Saw these guys in 1984. They opened for Ozzy (Bark At The Moon tour). Man, they were loud. This was a big song for them. Great song for sure.

My very first concert was Iron Maiden in 1985, and these guys opened for them. I had never heard them before that, but they kicked ass and I went out the next day and bought 2 of their albums, which was this album and Metal Heart, which was the album the touring at the time. Ive been a big fan of theirs ever since...

Balls to the wall was a commentary on the Berlin wall and how East Germany and east Berlin were slaves to the communist regime. It is a Metal Anthem similar to great songs like Thunderstruck, Rock you like a hurricane, Master of puppets, Welcome to the jungle, ect. Accept, Scorpions, and Warlock are all German bands who made a splash in the U.S. in the 1980's. Accept have a different singer now but are still making albums today, so is Udo Dirkschneider the ex lead singer as U.D.O. You should check out Warlock "All we are" it's another great Metal Anthem.

I saw them open up for Ozzy Osborne in 1983 when this song came out, and the singer was 3'6" tall. He had to stay at the front of the stage or you'd loose him over the horizon.

Just a great metal song...in the same vibe as Quiet Riot's "Bang Your Head" imo...really recommend Accept's "Generation Clash"..different lead singer
Oh boy... We lost Ryan for a bit at the beginning! 😂😂 The song is what it is. He does have an AC/DC vibe. The guitars are great and in sync. The lead singer is a "close talker" (Seinfeld reference). Geez he is in everyone's face. The video and the album cover - so much going on... So fun! 😊❤

Remember this when it came out. Taking German in school, this was better music than oompah bands.
It's a shame you didn't listen to the unedited version. A bit dirtier/grittier. The song is speaking out for human rights. Head banging, was common place to metal in the 80's, even early 90's. I really love the emphasis on the base in this song. It is on my playlist...huge Accept fan here. 🤘

I was a sophmore in High School (1983) when this song came out. And yes it's cheesy. But cheesy music and movies were the standard then. And cheesy ran through my veins.

I saw them live in the early 80's when they opened for Priest or Maiden. They were really good, and loud. This song, and them, is so far from 80's Glam metal it isn't even funny. This ain't no Living on a Prayer.

Nope, this is the radio edit. Half the solo is missing, so is Udo's teeth grinding. They did that a lot in the 80s and cut out some of the best parts.

I liked your reaction, but you picked the short version, which cuts the spoken verses by Udo and it doesn’t give you the real feeling to the song. I suggest you listen to Princess of the Dawn, Son of a Bitch and Heaven or Hell from them.
I strongly recommend the album version and not the video version, there's a whole part missing on the video version, a great build up missing.
Just realized this is the politically correct version. The album version rocks.
