This made me really anxious because of the age going up and up and up. I'm turning 20 in a week and am freaking out because I'm getting old. I feel like I'll be 40 in a blink of an eye.
20 does seem like a long time ago now that I'm 41, but really not long enough. 10 years can slip by almost like nothing. But 10 years is enough for all kinds of amazing things to happen. I hope that's the case for you. I think my 20s (approx) were the best time even if harder in some ways than before or since.

Its nice to know that even if you don't end up with someone there are beautiful memories made and you have the power to leave lasting impressions. This one time I was late for one of my classes...walking through the high school hallways when there were only a few people. This guy comes booking it down the hallway, running to catch his class. I yelled out "Run, Forrest, run!" and it came out nice and clear and confident (which like never happens). Then some guy who I couldn't see (might've been the guy who was running) yelled out "Who said that? Whoever said that, I love you!" There have been alot of moments with my man, but the sweetest one: When I was in labour with my first child, at the hospital and too many witnesses, my husband turned on our first dance song and we danced in the hospital room between harsh contractions. I will never forget it. It so helped ease the moments. I wasn't alone in the fight and it was his way of comforting both of us.

I feel like a lot of people, when asked this question, will furrow their brow and say that they have never had a romantic experience. Romance doesn't have to be candles, flowers, and chocolate. Romance can be prolonged eye contact with a stranger on a bus or in a crowd. Romance isn't about perfect love; it's about a genuine, unmatched connection that you shared with someone. Whether it lasted 30 seconds, 30 hours, or thirty years - it can be romance.

sometimes material items can be romantic. i get what you're saying, but sometimes material items can be romantic if you've really put thought into what the person likes, if that makes any sense? however romantic experiences are of course amazing also (:

You're doing it right. 19 is way too young to know if someone will be a good partner for life. But don't be afraid to date. Ask someone out for a casual date. The worst that can happen is they say no. Just have fun and practice dating, so when you are in a good place to meet your life partner, you'll be a pro.
19 is defiantly not too young to know who you'll be with for the rest of your life, or who would make a great life partner. I had been 20 for a month when my husband who was 19 at the time but, turning 20 the day after we got married, got married... We've known each other for almost 16 years, he is my brothers and now my best friend.
Everybody lives a different life, we experience different things at different times, including meeting the right person for us. I was 18 when I experienced my first relationship, first kiss, first everything and that didn't last because something, somethings were missing. I was dating my husband "officially" for a year and I knew, I knew he was and still is the person that I'm supposed to be with forever.
Don't say that just because we're young we don't know who's right for us or who will make a great partner in life. we're all human and whether we're 20 or 40 years old. We know when we know, we don't know what to expect because it's something new. There's new challenges but age doesn't change those challenges. Age doesn't change a feeling.
I've been married to my husband for over 7 months, and I know in 7 years, 70 years if God should give us that life span that we'll still be together.
hannah ostenberg I wish you both luck. There are certainly exceptions, but most folks in this part of the world are not yet their adult selves at 19. If you both have really taken the time to have those deep, decades down the road kinds of conversations with honesty and reflection, maybe you really do know. I hope that's the case, because you do sound happy.

If you're anything like me when I was in my 20s, the romance will be just as silly and unserious and just as passionate. I doubt that you'll magically mature in your early 20s.

I was the same. I am 21 now and believe me, I just had my first kiss almost two months ago. Please don't be with someone just because you don't want to be alone or you feel like a lot of people of your age have already had multiple partners. I think a lot, a lot of people are in your situation, but many don't like to admit so we feel ashamed that after a certain age we haven't had any relationship. But trust me, when that person arrives, and you finally kiss them, it is the best feeling in the world. You feel that all that time was well worth it. Just don't rush things, but get out there and meet new people
