    Beautiful, Crystal! My husband and I are planning a cruise to Alaska next year. I'm looking forward to your review of the ship and the land tours! You are the Cruise Queen!

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm not sure I'll be doing anymore actual reviews. They are mostly seen by others (not subscribers) and everyone has an opinion, lol. It's unfortunate but makes me not want to do them. I will have the Vlog up at some point though. Lots of footage to go through still. :)

    • @annjohnson1185
      @annjohnson1185 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh I do hope you will do the review. I love watching reviews as I always end up learning so many things and come away with a person's unique view.

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I may try to do it Vlog style and not put it in the title as an actual review. That way my subscribers will likely watch but I won't get as many non-subscribers searching for it. :)

    Nice to see you Crystal! I sailed on the Ruby 4 years ago when I went to the Greek Isles and Italy, she is a gorgeous ship. It's too bad that the weather was so rainy for you in Alaska. When we visited on our Alaskan cruise it was the beginning of July and most days were sunny and 80F, just goes to show one can never plan on the weather! Loved seeing your outfits, hope you are well. ~ Cathy xo

      @MissCrystal  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Cathy! Yes, the weather may have been a bit cooler since it was early June. The Ruby is beautiful but not my favorite layout from Princess. We're probably spoiled with Regal now since we've been on her twice. :)

    It was fun to see more casual outfits and what you wore ashore this time, so thanks for that! We've done an Alaska cruise twice, and I agree with what you said in the video and in the comments about the crazy weather changes. Layers is always my advice when anyone asks. My favorite thing we ever did in Alaska was snorkeling, believe it or not!
    Totally fun and different. Enjoyed the video, as always!

    Hi Crystal, you looked stunning in all your outfits as usual :) We did the same cruise but on the Emerald Princess at the end of May. Best advice for Alaska is to dress in layers - the day we left Seattle it was quite warm and sunny and we were sunbaking around the pool, while 2 days later I had on 3 layers of long sleeved tees/sweaters and 2 jackets due to the icy wind. Really enjoyed the trip and those little towns are so picturesque.

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, layers were key! I talk more about that in my next video 'What To Pack'. We've spoken to others and it sound like the weather changes daily so you never know what you'll get. We really enjoyed it!

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! The summer season for Alaska is mid May - August. They book up quickly since the season is shorter and one of the most popular destinations. We booked almost a year in advance and still were somewhat limited with cabin choices that we would like. We know several people that have been and all say weather changes daily. It may be warmer one day and really cold and or raining the next. My 'What To Pack' video up next will probably help with that. July/August are supposed to be the rainiest months but we did experience some rain almost every day. Juno and Ketchikan were the coldest/most rain. Skagway was beautiful and sunny. Glacier watching was cold and gloomy. Hope this helps!

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are very different! Of course the scenery and stops are obvious. However, something we had never experienced was the ship feeling so crowded! On Caribbean or warmer weather cruises, everyone is more spread out all the time, especially on sea days. On Alaska since it's cooler, everyone is mainly inside unless it's a really nice, sunny day. The overall trip was amazing! The actual cruise was just ok.

    Was so excited to see you post this video Crystal! We are going on our first ever cruise to Alaska on the Ruby Princess in September. Was so happy to see what you brought with you to wear...especially love that dress from J.C. Penney! And what a great price! B.T.W. did you do the Buchart Garden's tour in Victoria? We have it scheduled but husband doesn't want to feel rushed and have to get back to the ship so late the night before the cruise ends...so we may cancel that one....did you get sea sick at all? I am fully prepared with those sea bands and the patches from the doctor. Thanks for sharing your cruise with all of us!

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We did a city tour of Victoria but it was a total waste of money and I do not recommend it. Unfortunately we didn't get into port until 7 and by the time we cleared customs it was closer to 7:30. We left at 11:30. We would probably just walk around on our own if we had to do it all over. I just don't think it's a great stop when it's that late.
      No, I didn't get sea sick but did feel slightly nauseous on the first sea day. A lot of others did as well. Nothing bad for me though or others it didn't sound like. I just get a bad headache when it happens. It was cold and windy with a little chop is why.

    • @bellati2006
      @bellati2006 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks MissCrystal! We will probably cancel the Buchart Gardens excursion and just walk around on our own! Love all of your videos! Thanks again for the very fast response!

    This is so great - thanks for doing the video it was greatly appreciated! Would be curious as to what you thought of the Princess experience and days at sea? Enough to do? Quality of food?

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We really like Princess overall. They have become one of our favorites in recent years. The food overall is good. It really depends on the ship. As a whole, we've noticed food not as good as it used to be several years ago on all cruise lines. We really like Regal princess ship best. Food quality and selection. This cruise seemed a bit more crowded than others due to the colder weather. Everyone is inside most of the time and not as spread out as say on a warmer weather cruise. Going to Alaska was great! The actual cruise itself was just ok. Hope this helps!

  • @debs1717
    @debs1717 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, Crystal! I've been watching your cruise videos and loving them and all your great information. Thanks for taking your time to post each of them. I looked at your top five cruise lines are your picks still the same? Or do you now have a new list of favorites? We are thinking about going on a cruise to Alaska. What month would you suggest going and what cruise line? Thank you so much for answering my questions.

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Debbie Sagnibene Hi, thanks for watching! I'd say they are close. Princess has become our top fave for service and food. Just all around nice. We still like Royal but their food has gone down hill and we've heard that from many people. Each line is unique in their own right. Definitely Princess for Alaska. They are the most well known there with Holland probably second. Alaska cruise season is May - August. Summer months are the tourist season for them. Weather will be rainy but slightly warmer temps. Hope this helps!

    Hi Crystal, I am going on Alaskan Cruise on Sept. 1st. I expect it to be cold, but I noticed all your dresses for dinner were sleeveless & summer looking. Did you get cold in those dresses or need a sweater. Or is the dining room warm? Thx!

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Honestly I don’t remember anything being “summer looking” except for one dress because it was actually warmer that day and evening. As for formal nights, I almost always wear sleeveless no matter the climate. I know most ships are climate controlled and not cold. Although I always take a light sweater and jacket. I don’t think I needed them at dinner though. If I didn’t show it, then I didn’t. Enjoy your cruise!

  • @pmb5005
    @pmb5005 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    How do you guys like to do your dining? We have been on Holland America and sat at a formal table for dinner with other people - the same every night I believe. On Norwegian, we could eat at a few different restaurants and didn't have to eat in the formal dining room with the same people. I loved Norwegian in that regard. Do you guys eat with other people or just the 2 of you? I like being very casual on cruises and some seem to be more formal than others. Do men have to wear suits on the formal nights? We want to try to do a European cruise with 1 suit case each for around 3 weeks. Just a suit and shoes would take up so much room for my hubby so wondered if he could get by with a dress shirt and tie? Thanks Crystal! Always love your vids!

      We always ask for a table for 2 and do Anytime dining. Some lines call it something else. Meaning, we never do the fixed dining times anymore and haven't in many years. I don't think I could cruise if we had to be at dinner at a certain time and sit with others. The hostess will ask if you want to sit with others if there is a wait, but we don't mind waiting for a table for 2.
      Yes, some cruises and cruise lines are a bit more dressy than others. I've found in our 20+ cruises it really depends on the ship itself and the itinerary. As for formal nights, even though this was an overall casual cruise, most still dressed up for formal nights. Maybe not to the extent as other cruises. My Husband packs one suit, one white dress shirt and one tie for both formal nights. I pack the pants with the other shirts and pants and neatly fold the jacket and lay on top before closing the suitcase. We only bring one large suitcase a piece on cruises most of the time. Yes, the shoes do take up some extra room but you could always put them in a carry on if need be. He could wear just a shirt and tie but not many do except for young kids. I'd always suggest a jacket without tie before I'd ditch the jacket. Just my opinion on formal nights. Of course you can always forgo them and eat in the buffet. :)

      I don’t remember since I bought it quite awhile ago. I’ve not seen it since. I linked some similar options in the description box.

    I was just thinking about the full review u usually post. Then I read u might not do one because of comments. What? Do one for us and turn off the comments! 😉

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I may try to do it Vlog style and not put in the title that it's a review. Maybe that way most of the cruise searchers won't see it. I've had to keep those viewers in mind the last several years as my cruise videos have gotten more popular, and I've had to change how I do things because of it. I always feel like I'm talking to you all but that's not the case with cruise videos. The majority of my views on them are from non-subscribers.

      I just discovered your channel as a "cruise searcher." I really like watching people's cruise reviews as I make my decisions and I often end up becoming a subscriber to their channel. We're going on the Celebrity Solstice to Alaska in August and I'm searching through all the reviews I can find. I don't know how a cruise searcher's comments would detract from your review.

      HI there! Thanks for watching! Sorry I'm just seeing this. I meant those that do not normally watch my other videos (non cruise related) on a regular basis. I feel they do not know me but sometimes make rude comments as if they do just by watching one or two of my cruise videos. My channel is not just cruise related even though that's a large part of it. No offense to anyone that is not a regular subscriber. Just something I've become aware of over the years.

    Did you get cold at all during the evenings on the ship? I am trying to decide what kind of formal wear to bring.

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Laura Ashley Smith No, not really. It's temperature controlled. I wore my normal sleeveless dresses for formal nights. I did only wear one other dress on a warmer day.

    How do u steam your dresses?

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a travel steamer but do not bring it on cruises. If they need it, I’ll use the iron in the laundry facility on Princess. I try to carefully lay them in the suitcase so they do not get wrinkles. I believe I’ve shown this in a packing video at some point. 😊

    My neighbors just got home yesterday (the 13th) from a Alaskan Cruise! I wonder if you were on the same one?! They flew out June 2nd.

      MissCrystal I'll have to ask them if they left from there or Vancouver. Either way, funny all of you took an Alaskan Cruise at the same time! It was their first one. I can't wait to hear about it! I'm sure they are exhausted & have jet lag lol. We live in the Eastern time zone. Lol

      MissCrystal oh and they did say something about zip lining in before they left. Was that one of your excursion options as well?

    • @MissCrystal
      @MissCrystal  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it was an option. I don't recall at which port though. We didn't do that. We did Whale Watching in Juno, Train in Skagway, City Tour in Victoria and walked around on our own in Ketchikan. Two of my Husband's co-workers were also cruising Alaska the same week we were but on land tours and then the cruise after.

    wow, thats a lot of clothes for Alaska; I went last year and didn't take half of that. May I ask how many bags you had? I couldn't fit so many outfits I wanted to take....lovely dresses by the way

    • @MissCrystal

      I have a video for what to pack showing what I actually wore. I didn’t end up wearing some outfits for dinner since it was a very casual cruise for the most part. We actually pack very well for a cruise since we’ve taken so many and typically do not over pack. Everyone will be different though and not everyone likes to dress up. We only had one suitcase each. We did bring a carry on just to have some heavier and bulkier items like my boots and packable down coat that we normally wouldn’t have.
