If you are a regular and think "Haven't I seen this". This is an updated and stremlined version of my older video ;) If Baby Lasagna can improve so can I (hopefully)
Yes, absolutely! Australia has been delivering banger after banger in ESC since 2015 and it would be a huge loss to the contest if they no longer competed.
Time for the annual 'why is Australia in Eurovision?' video 😂. For me Australia is more than welcome. Love them and I hope they will stay for many years to come ❤
We are so good at ESC and it allows our artists to get exposure they deserve that would be impossible otherwise. It is also a massive cultural thing here and SBS really care about it and we also have good commentators. I would be so sad if we left but I really don’t think it is 100% likely that it won’t happen.
As a second-gen Greek Australian, I've pretty much been watching ESC since I was born, I've been getting up at 5am for it for over a decade now, and my parents have been watching it since the 80s too as the children of Greek migrants. Greek and Italian migrant communities in Aus especially are very strong to this day, and were a huge part of why it was even broadcast here and its continued popularity (especially within these communities of European migrants), as you've talked about. I remember being like 12 or something when it was announced we'd get to participate and it felt like the most exciting day of my life lmaoo
Couldn't agree more with this comment. So many of us have been waking up at 5am to watch ESC with our families our entire childhood; it's a tradition in my family as well. There are large Italian, Greek, ex-Yugoslav communities here in Australia. Also worth mentioning that we have the largest Maltese diaspora in the world.
Something I really don't like is how Gatekeeping people get when they ask "Why is Australia/Israel in Eurovision, it's not even in Europe" or "I didn't know it was in Europe", "It's called EUROvision, not World vision". Giving a very strong vibe of "Eurovision is OUR thing, and you can't have it. You can't join our special club"
Me and my brother have loved Eurovision since we were little and it’s so much fun being able to vote now, definitely makes it easier to do the 4:30am wake up 😂
The 2 Australians from The New Seekers (UK 1972) we’re part of a very famous Australian 60s band appropriately called The Seekers. They were a big hit in both Australia and the UK (the most successful internationally an Australian band had really ever been back then), and I like to think slightly better than the new rendition 2 members formed in the 1970s. It was the fact that the lead singer, Judith Durham RIP, decided she had enough and the band broke up to focus on her own individual career. Maybe it was a sign all of them should have too haha!
Because Australia isn't allowed to host if they win, I think it would be really funny if Austria has to host on their behalf. Finally bringing Kangaroos to Austria 😜
Why is Israel in Eurovision? Especially this year with 36,000 dead civilians, 2/3 children, it should be excluded, as happened with the participation of Russia.
I wish one day Eurovision will be like Olympics and countries from of all around the world could participate. It is so uniting and fun, we get to know artists, cultures, authenticity, drama of course haha, and a lot of great convos before and after the show. Australia is a brother of us, we love them, their songs and their vibes.
Eurovision will lose its identity and specialness if it's a competition for every country around the globe. It's a very European thing that has intrigued a number of countries on the outside, so we'll simply broadcast to those who are interested, (except China cuz they censored a bunch of our broadcast.) Then there're other parts of the world that doesn't agree with EBU's liberal stance and policy. The broader it gets can also invite more corruption and interference and that would guarantee its downfall.
@@herrmajestat well if you seek its history, it actually had that kind of vision regarding the effects of the competition. It was made to unite the states within EU and to let them get to know eachother through the contest. The actual vision was somehow to act like the Olympics, where different nations and states will compete for the sake of unity, excitement and expression. Eurovision, I may admit, brought a lot within our homes, personalities and acts like Dana, Conchita, Verka, Chikilicuatre, the absolute Saxoman from Sunstroke project, Lordi, etc., artists like Johnny Logan, ABBA, Celine Dion, Duncan Laurence, Alexander Rybak, Dima Bilan, Eleni Foureira, etc... It has become part of our lives, a lot of people gather at home that night and have realtime reactions and discussions, while guessing tops, etc. Despite that, I believe that many citizens from various countries have come closer to another country through similarities and differences. I am aware that people are searching each artists' background, I have seen them dive into other countries' music in general, just because one song from Eurovision drove their interest. And this is huge, apart from winning the contest or even the semifinals. It is a great opportunity for people to feel heard, seen and appreciated through art. That's why I support this Idea. And it would be better if everyone talked all year around about art than stupid stuff.
No, absolutely not. Something else maybe, but it’s the “Europeanness” of Eurovision which makes it special. Only other European countries should now join, be it Monaco etc coming back or Kosovo being allowed to finally join.
I personally would love that! I think it's a lot bigger in Quebec than the rest of Canada. Celine Dion and La Zarra were both born in Quebec after all. Most people I talk to here in Toronto don't know much if anything about Eurovision 😥
Olivia Newton John was born in Oxford UK moved to Australia aged 5/6 back to UK at 16 ,she didn't take up official Aussie citizenship till many years later
Slightly off-topic (or kinda on topic since it's mentioned in the video) but as someone who actually enjoyed American Song Contest (though it definitely had its flaws), I am hoping to see it make a a return someday, hopefully much improved. And Eurovision Canada seems exciting too, as does Eurovision Latin America, I hope we get to see both of those come to fruition at some point.
I'm watching from Australia and I don't know why we are in Eurovision, but I do think we fit in well. The Eurovision aesthetic is closer to Australian than it is to British taste, and our results over the years reflect this. Don't forget that Australia was the first country outside of Sweden where ABBA had massive chart success following their Eurovision victory.
Nobody mentions Morocco 1980, north africa. In 1977 Tunisia were going to enter but withdrew, so Australia isn't Europe, its not new having outsider take part. The more the better
Not fair that Australia in the contest what about the USA they have just a much right as Australia.. They change the rules to a accommodate them. all they does is side-lined, all the other Countries. not on and not fair one rule for Australia but no the the USA. How that work ?
I would be so worried they would take it too seriously as the USA is such a competitive country, they would probably send Lady Gaga and we would all be so screwed
@@erinnadia0409 like anyone would actually care for Lady Gaga, nobody of the televote would want her to win and the fandom would just ignore her (maybe).
I am dual US & UK citizen (my mother is from Scotland, I was born & raised in the USA) & idk how I feel about the US participating. 🤣 I am sad I cannot vote but it would be unfair as the USA is too big a country.
I think that in the beginning all what mattered was the huge interest about the contest by Australians and that was a premier wanting to participate. I am not so sure about any money paid. I enjoy your explanations so much. Especially regarding usually untackled topics 👍
Thank you
Australia is simply a part of Eurovision now. We cannot have it without them and I wish for them to stay forever!
❤ from Sweden!
Thank you, Sweden, we love you! 🇦🇺 ❤ 🇸🇪
i’d be so upset if australia left eurovision
i’ve gotten so used to them participating that it’d be weird without them
yeah same
Are you happy Australia participates in Eurovision?
🇦🇺Yes! Thanks for posting this video before my bedtime 😁
Yes Australia has some of my favourite entries ever😍
Yes 🎉

it's a shame that the love and care Australians have for the Eurovision didn't translate into more of a promotion push for this years entry.
Fun fact the Australian OGAE fan club is the 4th largest and they rank 7th for tickets sold to malmo 24
The truth is that we love Eurovision down here, and we hope our invitation never runs out. (And maybe we’ll even win it one day 😊)
Australia should be given full EBU membership and doing so means they would've have to be invited, keep aussie in
if you win, what time will the next contest start?
@@danutawegorz9374 We’ll never host it. I assume it’d be like a couple of years ago when the second place finisher (UK) hosted on behalf of Ukraine.
Thanks for love Europe! I don’t care if we ever win, I’m just happy to be a part of ESC!!! 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

Australia to me is totally a definitive country in Eurovision, I need them, we would really lose something if they would cease to participate.
Because Australia isn't allowed to host if they win, I think it would be really funny if Austria has to host on their behalf. Finally bringing Kangaroos to Austria 😜
Hahaha
This reminds me of when Australia was an AQ when Austria hosted in 2015.
Yes SBS has been broadcast ESC since 1983 but it had been broadcast in Australia before that in the 1970s
idk why theyre in eurovision but its nice having them

Australia is honorary European. And if New Zealand decides they want to come, let's welcome them too.
Heading for nearly 10 years of Australia in ESC ,it would be nasty if the EBU were to kick them out. They've been loyal.

Guy Sebastian is one of my eurovision best 🎉 .. still listen to it ✌️... i hope Canada will enter too... got the impression the love eurovision too❤

Do you think for the 70th eurovision in 2026 they might try to invite another country, perhaps new zealand???😮
I think New Zealand might actually work... But I don't think they have a broadcaster like SBS
Great video! We love Eurovision in Australia!
If Australia can be in Eurovision, might as well get Mongolia to participate.
Australia is in the contest because we love Australia. And Australia loves us. And so it is💕
Australia proofed again and again why they fit into Eurovision.
I don't know why we're in it either. We have a big fan base for Eurovision here though.
TBH, if you have australia participating, let New Zealand in! 🇳🇿 🇦🇺
I thought they don’t even show the contest😂 As an Aussie I can confirm this would be a good thing though!
I would love NZ to join! 🐑🐑🐑
@treverthetree In 2023, They actually submitted a "Singer" even though they weren't in the show ! That shows there love to the contest!
They even put Azerbaijan💀
Need to remember that I have to send this to people who ask
Thanks ;)
No problem at all with Aussie involvement. I was so into Guy Sebastian who actually kicked on to do more good music 👍
I'm honestly exhausted of this question popping up every year 🙄
Edit: sorry, didn't mean this against you!
Nice summary. It has become a bit of an old chestnut. Something trotted out usually by people who don’t like the RSC. 🤯
What happens if they win?
I still remember that song in 2014 from Jessica Mauboy Sea of Flags when they moved Australia to Europe😂😂 Its way better than her song in 2018

It's good to revisit this topic because EVERY year, people ask the same tired old questions about Australia's participation. 😊
