Yummy! For anyone looking for the times/quantites in grams (since we can't post links in comments any more): I used the following: 185g double cream, 2 garlic clove, 30g butter, 1125g potatoes, salt, white pepper, handfuls of grated cheddar cheese, dried thyme sprinkled over each layer. I used a mandolin to slice the potato but you can also do it by hand. Layer, cover and cook in a 200c oven for about an hour. Add some more cheese, bake uncovered for 15 mins ish, let sit after to set. I also add a generous pinch of grated nutmeg and it's DELICIOUS.
@@jasonorme4180 it's 180 C or 350 F for 1hr and 15mins or until middle is soft. Cover with cheese and in again for 10-15mins. Set aside for 5mins and then eat.
It really makes me sad that my family doesn't make Potatoes Au Gratin, we used to make them with skillet baked Porkchops and chicken, my moms was always the best! My grandpa used to make it too. . .until he kind of fell off the wagon when it came to cooking them, he would put too much oil in it and he went on creole spice bing ever since he discovered that a local store of ours sold the cajun and creole seasonings he saw on one of his favorite cooking shows on PBS. Now he puts it in everything and those spices didn't sit too well when he started putting it in his potatoes au gratin. 😞
Mmmhhh yum. Just read about lobster and lockdown😦 for you. Thanks for keeping our spirits up, big hugs to you and Dozer and enjoy the best of what is around you. Merry Christmas

I followed the recipe VERBATIM. 2 hours later and potatoes aren’t nearly done 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ boil the slices a bit previously or you’ll be at it for hours.
These aren't dauphinoise potatoes (or gratin dauphinois). There is absolutely NO cheese in a gratin dauphinois. Potatoes, milk, butter, cream, garlic, Nutmeg, salt and pepper. You have to boil the potatoes in milk, butter and cream, add garlic, nutmeg salt and pepper. Once potatoes are a bit soft, transfer to oven dish and leave in the oven for 15 to 20 min. Your video is a just a potato gratin...
I really hate video instructions that don't actually give any instructions but instead they play crappy music that is more appropriate to elevators. I really am not interested in having to keep my eyes glued onto the video while I am trying to cook at the same time. The advantage of a video is that you can watch it and listen to it or you can just listen to it for most of the time while you work in your kitchen, but if there are no verbal instructions there's no point. I might as well just read a dang cookbook
This is why I will never be thin, look at the state of that thing 🤤

Hello could I steam the potatoes first? My mother is scared they won't cook well if they are baked directly in the oven
I miss this side dish mom would make it all the time when I was a child. I think I will make it soon for my children.

They said "Cream", is that just like normal thickened cream?
