    During World war 2 Ireland had to independently source its own supply of tea, The British government, restricted exports to Ireland in an effort to punish the country for its neutrality. Irish tea merchants started travelling, and quickly they found that darker teas from East Africa as opposed to the lighter Indian and Sri Lankan leaves popular in England. Relationships were established in Kenya and other East African countries, which allowed Ireland to secure the pick of the crops grown there. Irish people drink what is frequently described as the highest-quality tea in the world. If you want to present yourself as drinking authentic Irish tea then you should be drinking Lyons or Barrys tea

    Irish Breakfast tends to be a stouter brew than the English, at least in my experience. It's robust with a hearty malty undercurrent, and it takes far less sugar, lemon, or milk than most other teas I've tried.
    It's my personal favorite, and while I mostly like it to give a good kick in the pants to start the day with, it does go nicely with afternoon tea and scones too.
    Nothing against the English Breakfast, love that kind too.

  • @justmadeit2

    I live in England, I don't have sugar in my tea and not too much milk. Always put the milk in after pouring the tea. Also the brand of tea makes a huge difference, there are some cheap teas out there that will put you off tea. As for deacaf tea? Avoid it unless there's a reason you can't have caffeine.
    Its hilarious to me how many Americans claim they are Irish! Maybe a relative of theirs was 200+ years ago though. Who knows.
    Anyway, try different black teas, Assam is good, go for twinnings or Yorkshire tea, or pg tips

      There are alot of people of Irish descent in the US, but usually its mixed with other ethnicities and may not be immediately apparent. Most of their ancestors came over in the potato famine in the mid 19th century.

    The reason the English started using milk and sugar in their tea .. is because it's basically pee... and they needed milk and sugar to provide any taste at all. You may as well just drink boiled water .. Now here in Ireland .. if the spoon doesn't stand up in the cup then it's poured down the sink.

      Lipton quart-size bags, steeped strong. Stir in 3/4 c. to 1 full c. of sugar while hot for a half-gallon of tea. Chill COMPLETELY before serving. You can't just pour the tea over ice immediately after brewing and expect an authentic sweet tea. Sugar molecules break down into fructose and glucose in the presence of heat and water, and the tongue doesn't interpret either to be as sweet as the disaccharide sucrose. Some sugar molecules will rejoin into sucrose as the tea chills, thus making sweet tea.

    • @MissMaryLu
      @MissMaryLu  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Deglutenizer I remember Alton Brown making sweet tea with Lipton on his show waaaaay back. And I have a TON of it lying around from an old challenge video. Hmmmm....I think this needs to happen!
