Jason - Really liked your comment about "stuff it, I'll grind it and then lead it". One of the best welders on one of my projects had a hard hat sticker that said "I may not be the world's best welder, but I am a wizard with a grinder". That tank looks better than new.
Great Job Jason. Them sealers can be a bit awkward to work with. It’s almost like a “one shot” deal… its consistency acted a lot different than next day.. even though I put it in an airtight container for storage? Anyway, looks awesome 👏
Thanks Kev! Thats what I was wondering, glad I didn't try & paint inside it then reopen the can the next day. It's another weeks wait to get more & be rusty by then. Cheers!!
@@jarnosaarinen4583 I did one tank… and it went very well. Decided to do second tank after I got back from work… big mistake… stuff wasn’t fluid and didn’t want to splash around inside. It just wanted to set up real real quick… luckily this was my secondary tank!
Wow! Just Wow!! From where you started to where you finished is just amazing Jason! Tank looks new to me! Looking forward to the next part of this project! Cheers my friend!
That fuel tank is beautiful. I like how you take the time and detail even the parts that are hidden. Certainly no shortcuts on this rebuild. The lead work was interesting to watch. I resealed a VW Beetle tank and it is a lot of work. It didn't come out nearly as nice as yours.
Where's your Coat Hanger?????? My Neighbor use to fix rust holes in gas tanks on the car using a large soldering iron and lead . Water in the fuel was common here, it would rust the lowest point inside out. A large wine bottle cork works as a float, and you get to drink the wine. LOL
The tank came out perfect Jason. Amazing job. I never would have attempted that weld job. Do you use a flap disk on an angle grinder to bring that down ? Detailed sander ? Just wondering how you got in that tight seam and made it look so good. I like the lead. Years ago we had this stuff called DR Belzona. Was like a paste that you smeared on and then heated it with a propane torch. Kind of to seal pinholes like that. Not even sure if it still exists.
Thats stuff is Tinning Paste, can use a few different way to prep the surface for lead.I usually just use a steel grinding disk, I find the flappers wear out to quick & they aren't real cheap! I also used some body filler once I knew it was fully sealed!
Thanks Andy! LOL I got a feeling the VW tanks might be thicker steel? I really don't want to do another old Japanese car, but yuh never know lol. Cheers!!
Fabuuuuuuuuuuulous Jason! 👍
Thanks Robert! Was a pretty long job glad is done, Cheers!!

Thanks Joe! I'm not sure what the OG float was made of it desintegrated, got a feeling was something like cork? Cheers!!
