A lot of miners do seem to go for max yield ignoring security, and do not seem to realise when there are passing through / mining in a hot area. Not sure if the guy with the DDAs fitted thought they could boost mining, but combat Orcas are a thing, actually they are great fun, fill them with tank and tackle and they will bait nice big stuff :)) Great guide mate
Quite honestly, as someone who spends most of my play hours in a solo Orca in highsec: The other mining vessels don't offer enough to keep me engaged as a miner, with how mining functions in-game. I agree the Rorqual needs a revision. But simply nerfing the Orca without providing a mining platform which replaces it's mining playstyle is a mistake. I already play far less than I used to. If this platform losses it's mining capability, I will just stop playing all together. Players leave when their play style is nerfed, well I see no reason to nerf the Orca and it has no suitable replacement. Thus there are other games to play.
I understand the reasons to nerf the solo mining aspect. CCP wants to encourage more fleet mining and getting more of the smaller and more vulnerable mining vessels in the belt. I just hope they offset that with buffs to fleet support and maybe a new module for more active play or something. This is why I personally try to experience or enjoy as many playstyles as possible in Eve. Lots of players seem to stick to one playstyle which does leave you vulnerable to a single nerf/patch that just ruins the 'entire' game for them. But I have only been playing for a year, maybe I am only a few changes aways from just quitting too lol

My problem is this: I run two accounts. one combat/exploration. one mining. That mining ship (my Orca) is what I fly most often, and is what supports my combat and exploration losses. More importantly, I genuinely enjoy sitting in a belt for a few hours mining while also reading a book or watching a movie. It's almost like fishing, but I'm chasing Veldspar. What the proposed change does is nerf that play style, which I enjoy and play more than any other. I log in to fish for rocks in the local belts. If that play style goes, and it's not backstopped with a similar play style, I'm going with it. I can fly every mining ship except the Rorqual, and I currently own an Orca, Mackinaw and Hulk. I know how the barges and exhumers function, I understand their play styles. I know I don't enjoy mining in the Mackinaw or Hulk unsupported. And I know I hate flying back and forth 40 times to the station. If CCP insists that I be in a fleet to mine, it will just reduce my interest to log in. I personally don't want to be reliant on another player to be able to go mine. If I log in at 1pm or 2am, I just want to fly to the belt. I can't do that if I'm reliant on a Corp member's ship for support. So, what that change really means: is that my combat alt will now also be a miner. Fine, it can fly the Hulk and my miner can run the Orca. I just won't do that, because I don't enjoy multi-boxing. I know, as I've done it. Both accounts have the ships and skill already. If CCP starts to insist EVE players get in a mining fleet, CCP is just ensure people fly their alts in the same place. So again, if they nerf solo mining on anything but the Rorqual (which does actually need a nerf). My favorite way to play goes away, and I stop playing this game. It's that simple.
MWD is key on rorqual and orca. you align (or pre align if your smart or care) you cycle your microwarpdrive once and turn it off. when the cycle ends it shunts your ship into warp. I can get my rorq off from siege in 8 seconds.
I've been back for about a year. Never been Orca ganked. I am killable by about 20 Catalysts, but that seldom happens and usually occurs during holiday roams. Hey Eventon, from my very little experience in mining, ppl run drone links for extra range because ppl can bump you out of control of ur drones and steal them, which can hurt your wallet if you run any fancy augmented ones
Although I’ve just got an orca I must admit I love the porpoise as a mining command ship weather that’s a newish or veteran player. It also gets of grid nice a quickly and can be redeployed just as quick. But must admit I’m loving the orca aswell

Now I huff gas in lowsec with four characters and make a hell of a lot more isk in a lot less time.
@@ronaldwoofer5024 yes, you bump the orca out of drone control range, usually with machariels, then scoop up their drones, usually only happens if you run augmented mining drones.
I like how you put things the ganking thing ruins it for so many to a few whom have nothing better to do than ruin it for others. I lost several out of my corp due to ganjing it ruins the laid back time. I'd appreciate it if you hovered over the fit slot for a second or two so those of us old slow people have time to jot down the fit and location. Thanks
Good video. I'd like to add that 0.8 and higher systems are a little bit safer. Although if they want to gank you, you will be ganked! Situational awareness as in keeping an eye on local, marking known ganker corps and alliances, and checking out the KBs as well as always be aligned to a dock able station are your best friends. I don't fit anything higher than T2 as the more the Orca is worth, the bigger a target it will be. And for the love of all that is holly and the kittens, never use your Orca as a Freighter or mine AFK. Just don't do it unless you really want to loose it.
Good video, but in my opinion the more blingy your tank is, the more of a target you'll be. Most of them do it to be 'ISK Positive' and to make a possible profit. I just use a full mining fit yield fit and never take gates, if I need ore shipped (if mot contracting it directly to someone) I just compress it and use a freighter service

If you're mining actively it's worth considering using a higgs anchor and WCS; you can WCS through the first points if you're quick, and just instantly warp to somewhere else.
What all those KM's seem to have together is that they mine or atleast was killed near Jita. Going somewhere else seems the best. With compression there is no reason to move around in an orca.
yup! thats one of the 3's I mention is usually to just get the hell out of Caladari space lol lots of ganks in The Citadel, Lonetrek, and The Forge all the time.
Be sure to have a 500mn microwarp drive, that you turn off the mwd during it's first cycle so it only goes once. If you leave it on the whole time it will take longer to enter warp
People run cargo expanders to drag mine usually because it lowers the speed. Ideally it works better because you can insta warp but if your afk its going to be 10x worse and I wouldn't travel gate to gate with it on.
Only got bothered in an orca once and all they did was try to make me fire on them or separate me from my augmented mining drones. They pushed me away then when I tried to warp back, which was a mistake, I lost connection to them and they swept them up.
I'm running the fit that you showed a few videos ago, currently it takes me ~2h to clear 3/4 of the belt. Fortunately for me, I live in a system that is filled mostly with Orcas and ocesionally mission runners, so all the traffic goes around and the local fills up only during events. Sadly, even if Ijust started mining in an Orca, I'll soon have to leave it if it'll get nerfed, or maybe I'll start multiboxing (I have no idea how to do this :P ) fly safe o7
Hello EVEnton. Things seem to have changed a little bit with the latest updates for Orca Solo miners anyways and not in the way you predicted (at least I don't think so I'm kind of new to Orca mining solo). I Guess my main question would be is an ehp of 430,000 adeqeate ?
I do wonder if, with the revamp of warp stabilizers, it may now be a good idea (in the case of High-Sec Orca mining) to drop either the dmg resist or the bulkhead for one active stabilizer, thus making ganks reliant on their alpha damage to take you out, unless the enemy came prepared with a faction warp scrambler or battleship-sized scrams (unless warp disruption adds up, which I don't think is the case, but I'm not certain). That said, the loss in ehp might not be worth it, depending on the size/dps of the ganking fleet. Still, it might be useful in more situations than not... perhaps? Anyone have any experience with such a fit?
Change will likely happen towards the end of this year. CCP said something along the lines of "we want to make them more of a fleet boosting role" and that's it really. So likely nerfs to their solo mining
@@blub9217 workers are usually ganked with 20+ gankers on Stargate or in mining belts. A single warp core stab won't help you versus that many gankers with warp scramblers. Just take the extra 70k ehp from a bulkhead/Damage control and hope for the best
not anymore, only in Pochven. But there are half a dozen systems close to Jita that usually have a WH that leads to Pochven. I've done it a few times but go at your own risk :P
Why solo mi,i,g orca? i mine with orca two hulk and two tengus ready in the ship bay,orca always align to safe spot ,i see spike switch to tengus warp orca in safe and wait gankers :)
I'm going to be bummed if Orca solo hisec mining gets nerfed real hard. I paid for Omega for the first time in years with the express plan to work my way up to an Orca. I don't get the hate, a ship that is more than 1 billion isk, takes months to skill to, why not let folks mine with it?

I think that for hisec, you'd just be better off most of the time in a skiff. Orcas are fun, but exhumers mine more, and have faster aligns. That's assuming of course that you're watching local, dscan, and are always aligned towards a friendly station. The mack can stay in belt longer, but you have to be super aware and not everyone wants to. The skiff does have to drop off more often, but I think that the tank is more then worth it because you'll be less appealing to garecamps. Either way, mining in highsec will always paint a target on your back no matter what you do.
If you're getting boosts but a solo skiff will mine less ore than an Orca and will take much more effort to mine as well. When I see people solo mining in barges and exhumers I can't help but think so much work for so little isk. The orca outperforms them solo and with minimal effort. The thing about an Orca now is it may go down in value substantially soon when CCP nerfs it. So maybe not the best of times to pick up an Orca.
I dont bother with tank like it's EVE what's the point lol? But then again I don't mine religiously it's more of a let's wind down for the day sorta thing
nothing 100% for sure, but its very likely they will nerf their solo mining. So likely mining drone yield nerfs mainly and hopefully buffs to their fleet boosting.
my strategy when fitting my orca is simple: fit as much tank on as possible (except for 500mwd and drone rigs i guess) and don't be an idiot and you should be fine
Orca is the safest in Highsec! Also Orca is the most ganked by dedicated ganking groups in Highsec... They kill like 3-12 Orcas a day in Highsec. That is like $45-200 worth of internet ship for players who think they are safe-ish.
Gankers gank haulers and battleships for profit, so a large buffer and low value modules (T2) deter them 99% of the time. Miners are ganked simply on principle, so no amount of tank or inefficiency for the gankers will stop them.
This video didn't age well, in so far as the prediction for solo orca mining goes. Just looking at yield, , with max mining and mining drone skills, and T^2 fit with appropriate crystals, I can pull in more volume per minute in an orca solo, than I can with any other mining ship solo. The porpoise too has seen a significant boost to yield. Increased mining yield, without negative impact to my tankiness.
You do not need drone links what the hell... Orca with good skills has 57km by default drone range. EDIT - I don't even have good skills I have no Advanced Drone Avionics which is another 15km
I run 3 hulks and an orca hulks just have t1 strip miners, and mining upgrades, all yield not worry about gankers, cause gankers in caldari hs are a joke 😂
@@eventon9372 even with just 1 extra ship, the solo mining of the orca becomes a joke. Sure you need a couple to match the rorqual but a setup like an orca, 2 miners be it covetors or even procurers and a miasmos and you'll make plenty. I'll always advocate this as the fleet mining is insane as is. Though I do hope they will buff it a bit more
@@MsDakota7 true, but some people don't care to multibox or have the set up to do it (ie old laptop). In my previous solo Orca videos I did say that the isk/hr is pretty bad and you are better off doing a fleet OR doing something more active like L4 missions/abyss etc. I realize the answer to 90% of Eve's issues is to just have more alts but this is focusing on solo Orca mining which even CCP admitted that its a bit stronger than they intended. Imo, nerf Orca solo mining, buff Orca fleet boosting bonuses, increase ore hold or allow it to compress ore, and buff exhumers since the 8-15% increase yield compared to barges isnt worth 10x the price.
EVE is played best with other people in your fleet, IMHO. Multiboxing is the easy answer to a lot of EVE's shortcomings but it's just more work and less fun than working alongside other players. Of course, that predicates being able to find other players willing to work together and /trust/ is also a big issue. I've got a 127mil SP industrialist/fleet miner character gathering dust for the above reasons...
why not just use a a higs rig ill make your max velocity like 18ms, so once you get in belt just stay aligned out so you can damn near insta warp if you see your local spike up
I really blame CCP because any ship in the world you can add guns and higher level equipment to fend all those jerks off. Be able to put a capital smart bomb and watch all those destroyers all blow up.
lost my interest after hearing "all i see get ganked are fully tanked orcas on zkillboards in high sec", I have never seen this, sounds like bs right from the start
never said "all I see get ganked are full tanked orcas..." I did say "this is one I see on zkill all the time, and I think got recommended the most".. probably a slight exaggeration and I misspoke that its recommended by other players to me. Around the making of this video there were a handful of fully tanked orca still getting ganked. The point is that max tanking your Orca isnt always going to deter gankers and you are in belt 33% longer than those with mining drone rigs which increases the time of you getting spotted for a potential gank as well. There are positives & negatives to tanking vs mining yield.

yup! and thats the other thing I forgot to mention was the drone speed helps them stay in range/come back faster.

Back when I solo minded with an Orca, I solo mined with three Orcas that could remote rep eachother and were tanked out the ass with hull rigs.

the extra drone range is for bump drone steal, if u control the drones at longer range its harder to steal them

My Orca is beefy enough to survive gankers in HiSec space until the security forces arrive.

When I was Omega I moved around a lot in my Orca.
It still takes me at least 40 second to jump. Even aligning with MWD. What do I do wrong?

Whats the sequence of using the MWD trick? You align, hit mwd, hit cloak right after, turn off cloak and hit dock?

Hello EVEnton. Things seem to have changed a little bit with the latest updates for Orca Solo miners anyways and not in the way you predicted (at least I don't think so I'm kind of new to Orca mining solo). I Guess my main question would be is an ehp of 430,000 adeqeate ?
I do wonder if, with the revamp of warp stabilizers, it may now be a good idea (in the case of High-Sec Orca mining) to drop either the dmg resist or the bulkhead for one active stabilizer, thus making ganks reliant on their alpha damage to take you out, unless the enemy came prepared with a faction warp scrambler or battleship-sized scrams (unless warp disruption adds up, which I don't think is the case, but I'm not certain).
That said, the loss in ehp might not be worth it, depending on the size/dps of the ganking fleet. Still, it might be useful in more situations than not... perhaps? Anyone have any experience with such a fit?
you should do a video on how to increase the orcas speed. seems to be important for most folks.
But then you need to be going faster to get into warp... which takes longer, leaving you a sitting duck.

Change will likely happen towards the end of this year. CCP said something along the lines of "we want to make them more of a fleet boosting role" and that's it really. So likely nerfs to their solo mining

@@blub9217 workers are usually ganked with 20+ gankers on Stargate or in mining belts. A single warp core stab won't help you versus that many gankers with warp scramblers. Just take the extra 70k ehp from a bulkhead/Damage control and hope for the best

not anymore, only in Pochven. But there are half a dozen systems close to Jita that usually have a WH that leads to Pochven. I've done it a few times but go at your own risk :P
if somone is going to gank your orca chances are they going to bring more then enough to kill it

Why solo mi,i,g orca? i mine with orca two hulk and two tengus ready in the ship bay,orca always align to safe spot ,i see spike switch to tengus warp orca in safe and wait gankers :)
How does the ship bay work exactly? Like how do you get in a tengu and also warp the orca away?
I'm going to be bummed if Orca solo hisec mining gets nerfed real hard. I paid for Omega for the first time in years with the express plan to work my way up to an Orca. I don't get the hate, a ship that is more than 1 billion isk, takes months to skill to, why not let folks mine with it?

I think that for hisec, you'd just be better off most of the time in a skiff. Orcas are fun, but exhumers mine more, and have faster aligns. That's assuming of course that you're watching local, dscan, and are always aligned towards a friendly station. The mack can stay in belt longer, but you have to be super aware and not everyone wants to. The skiff does have to drop off more often, but I think that the tank is more then worth it because you'll be less appealing to garecamps. Either way, mining in highsec will always paint a target on your back no matter what you do.
If you're getting boosts but a solo skiff will mine less ore than an Orca and will take much more effort to mine as well. When I see people solo mining in barges and exhumers I can't help but think so much work for so little isk. The orca outperforms them solo and with minimal effort. The thing about an Orca now is it may go down in value substantially soon when CCP nerfs it. So maybe not the best of times to pick up an Orca.

nothing 100% for sure, but its very likely they will nerf their solo mining. So likely mining drone yield nerfs mainly and hopefully buffs to their fleet boosting.

my strategy when fitting my orca is simple:
fit as much tank on as possible (except for 500mwd and drone rigs i guess) and don't be an idiot and you should be fine
Orca is the safest in Highsec!
Also Orca is the most ganked by dedicated ganking groups in Highsec... They kill like 3-12 Orcas a day in Highsec. That is like $45-200 worth of internet ship for players who think they are safe-ish.

I tracktor a Proc with my Orca so I can tell it faster plus
Gankers gank haulers and battleships for profit, so a large buffer and low value modules (T2) deter them 99% of the time. Miners are ganked simply on principle, so no amount of tank or inefficiency for the gankers will stop them.
This video didn't age well, in so far as the prediction for solo orca mining goes. Just looking at yield, , with max mining and mining drone skills, and T^2 fit with appropriate crystals, I can pull in more volume per minute in an orca solo, than I can with any other mining ship solo. The porpoise too has seen a significant boost to yield. Increased mining yield, without negative impact to my tankiness.

Orca with good skills has 57km by default drone range.
EDIT - I don't even have good skills I have no Advanced Drone Avionics which is another 15km

I run 3 hulks and an orca hulks just have t1 strip miners, and mining upgrades, all yield not worry about gankers, cause gankers in caldari hs are a joke 😂

that will likely be the only option when CCP makes the change lol and I agree, fleet mining is the best.
@@eventon9372 even with just 1 extra ship, the solo mining of the orca becomes a joke. Sure you need a couple to match the rorqual but a setup like an orca, 2 miners be it covetors or even procurers and a miasmos and you'll make plenty. I'll always advocate this as the fleet mining is insane as is. Though I do hope they will buff it a bit more
@@MsDakota7 true, but some people don't care to multibox or have the set up to do it (ie old laptop). In my previous solo Orca videos I did say that the isk/hr is pretty bad and you are better off doing a fleet OR doing something more active like L4 missions/abyss etc. I realize the answer to 90% of Eve's issues is to just have more alts but this is focusing on solo Orca mining which even CCP admitted that its a bit stronger than they intended.
Imo, nerf Orca solo mining, buff Orca fleet boosting bonuses, increase ore hold or allow it to compress ore, and buff exhumers since the 8-15% increase yield compared to barges isnt worth 10x the price.
EVE is played best with other people in your fleet, IMHO. Multiboxing is the easy answer to a lot of EVE's shortcomings but it's just more work and less fun than working alongside other players. Of course, that predicates being able to find other players willing to work together and /trust/ is also a big issue.
I've got a 127mil SP industrialist/fleet miner character gathering dust for the above reasons...

why not just use a a higs rig ill make your max velocity like 18ms, so once you get in belt just stay aligned out so you can damn near insta warp if you see your local spike up

That might be nice in some situations but sounds like a pain for somebody mining in a slow system and relaxing.
I really blame CCP because any ship in the world you can add guns and higher level equipment to fend all those jerks off. Be able to put a capital smart bomb and watch all those destroyers all blow up.

lost my interest after hearing "all i see get ganked are fully tanked orcas on zkillboards in high sec", I have never seen this, sounds like bs right from the start
never said "all I see get ganked are full tanked orcas..." I did say "this is one I see on zkill all the time, and I think got recommended the most".. probably a slight exaggeration and I misspoke that its recommended by other players to me. Around the making of this video there were a handful of fully tanked orca still getting ganked. The point is that max tanking your Orca isnt always going to deter gankers and you are in belt 33% longer than those with mining drone rigs which increases the time of you getting spotted for a potential gank as well. There are positives & negatives to tanking vs mining yield.
