I think this was my favourite layout at the exhibition. Simple track layout, uncluttered scenery and very atmospheric. The 'explanation' is that the Dawlish seawall has been breached by a storm and the alternative route is over Dartmoor.
Ah you must have gone on the Sunday, as Saturday was diesels on Moors view. It's a great layout very atmospheric and with a realistic track plan, not a single point on view. It takes a lot of courage to keep it simple. It was a decent show i enjoyed quite a few of the layouts.
You're right, I was there on the Sunday, so missed the diesels. I really liked that layout, simple but atmospheric. There were other good layouts at the show as well.
Excellent. Not too busy when I was there, lots more time to chat to people. Moors Views owner I talked too for about 20 minutes, Choates Lane had a few issues on saturday mornign but an enjoyable chat to the operators.
I was there on the Sunday and the Moors View operators were more than happy to chat. Choates Lane seemed to still have some problems on the Sunday but trains were running.
lots to impress on this one but theres always 1 tiny thing that catches my imagination. and thats a wire fence in real life prob about 6 to 7ft tall i think it was O gauge at the beginning the criss cross wire effect perfect...thanks for the video..
I'll have to have a look at this because there were no 0 gauge layouts in this part. The first layout was H0 and the third layout was 00 gauge. The wire fence was probably in that latter one.
OPERATIONAL IGNORANCE. Milk tanks in freight trains (at 3:50)! Milk tanks may look like wagons to the amateur, but they were glass lined and designed so they could run at passenger train speeds. They were therefore totally unsuited to be included in a "part fitted" freight as seen. They would be coupled to the local branch passenger, then marshalled in full Milk trains for onward travel to the Cities. The "Open" wagons seen at the rear of the freight train had NO train brakes (only a handbrake for parking), so will bump and jerk !!!
Do you really have to be so pedantic! These layouts are built for interest and enjoyment. The public who attend these exhibitions have little knowledge of railway operations or train formations. They want to see trains run! I am wondering if you enjoy visiting exhibitions or viewing videos like mine if you are only looking to find fault with what is on display. Relax, this is meant to be a hobby!
Winter scene is amazing. Amazing layouts, thanks for sharing. Dave
Glad you enjoyed it. Simple but very pleasing. I hope to see it again when the diesels are running.
That winter scene layout never ceases to impress.

@@KeithTucker45 that sounds feasible!

Winter steam layouts are always let down by lack of steam! The winter layout scenery is superb and looks so much better running diesels.
